A hidden gem. Incredible views, polite and professional staff, beds made for Queens. The beauty of the hotel is only topped by the incredible nature you are surrounded by. Turtles, Macaws, monkeys… it doesn't get better.

We only moved on to lunch because we went to a nightdiving activity and were staying at another hotel in the area. Very nice restaurant bar, with super manicured gardens, all wooden furniture, handcrafted, the sea in front, very good attention and very rich food!

Tambor Tropical is the highlight and must visit place of Tambor Beach. Unique hotel built with various Costa Rica artisan woods just feet from the beach. Staff friendly and food excellent.

There’s is no way I can possibly explain how wonderful this resort and staff truly are, but I will do my best!
My fiancée used to live in Tambor and was very familiar with this gorgeous resort. From the moment I saw pictures of the grounds, I knew we were booking our wedding here. Once the planning started Juan Carlos was more than delightful and attentive to any need and question we had. We had 30+ people traveling from The US to accommodate and every single one of the we’re in awe when we arrived. Juan Carlos and staff welcomed everyone with open arms and no hesitation in helping us with what ever we needed. Including the night time security that helped a friend that couldn’t remember where his room was the first night! Every single morning we woke up to the beauty of macaws flying and waves crashing outside of our rooms. We enjoyed continental breakfast with amazing fruit and fresh squeezed OJ, with a delicious breakfast menu we could order from. Every day as we left for excursions and sight seeing the grounds were being maintained, you could tell it was an art to the workers. Everyday the staff asked how our trip was and made sure to ask if we needed anything. Those that ordered dinner said it was excellent and nothing like the food they were used to. Christina and Fatima were the most amazing and helpful! They even helped us learn words in Spanish we didn’t know!

Stopped in the middle of afternoon, office had open sign on the door however doors were locked, knocked several times to no avail so left. Couldn't tell if place is still operating.

Very good food at reasonable prices. Very good open air atmosphere right on the beach. We did not stay at the resort, but ate at the restaurant a few times during our week visit.

I really really enjoyed staying in this resort! I LOVE the place! Everyone was super nice, sweet and helpful and everyone and everything was very personal! I felt relaxed and in good hands! Also we did some amazing tours (Tortuga Island, ATV Tour (gracias a Luis y Elvis (y Javi
) ), Mango plantation (gracias a Juan Carlos also for the airport transfer and creating this amazing place on earth! ) ), we had a great Yoga experience (gracias a Sabrina), we learned paddle surf (gracias a Victor) and an awesome healing massage from Evelyn (gracias! )! Thank you to all other staff members (and visitors! ) that we didn't get to know by name (sorry! ) for this great experience in Costa Rica and this amazing stay!

Tambor Tropical is the perfect Gateway to surfing at Santa Teresa. I recommend staying in Tambor, particularly Tambor Tropical because of the wide variety of activities. We woke up to an incredible sunrise on the beach, were greeted by the exotic Macaws, friendly staff, and tasty breakfast. Jumped in the van for a day of surfing and action at Santa Theresa. Got back to Tambor Tropical by 5:00p with a pleasant surprise from the staff. Spent the rest of the evening enjoying the sunset ambiance, cocktails, and good local company. The hotel room was clean, staff was friendly, and management was very accommodating. A+ review I strongly recommend!

Positives Nice beach Very nice rooms Clean Negatives Was given a kayak paddle when I rented a paddle board there. There is a lack of Costa Rican culture. The server was white and from North America. The service was terrible and we were the only party at dinner. The food was not up to the quality I was used to while in CR. The food took forever to receive. The wines were North American. I am from the States and it bothers me that the owner Mark (from Oregon) has so little understanding or care about retaining Costa Rican culture. The hotel prices are insanely high and are better suited for the US. My BF and I make great money and we enjoy our holidays but we were a bit annoyed by the utter lack of energy to retain the costa rican culture by hiring locals only and offering drinks and food native to CR or to the Latin culture. The menu included Kendall Jackson Chardonnay to give you an idea of what I am talking about. I was looking forward to trying the Pinot Noir from Oregon but it was not up to par with the Oregon Pinot Noir I have experienced. It tasted a bit musty if that makes sense. The Chilean and Argentinean wines on the trip were much better. Juan Carlos and Victor were very accomodating and helpful like all Costa Ricans we met on our journey. If you really want to experience Costa Rica there are many other great spots that offer a taste of the real culture. If you want to go to Costa Rica to experience the States go here.

Such a lovely and very unique place to stay when visiting the Nicoya Peninsula. The unique wood design of the bungalows made it very special. We loved that we could travel during the day to explore and surf and then head back to the tranquil environment of Tambor Tropical! Great food and staff too! Highly recommend.

This place is a hidden treasure… a shangrila! Beautiful facility, wonderful polite staff. Juan the manager is so helpful with information, and the beach is great for long walks. They also have a great nature walk where we saw so many monkeys, lizards, crabs, birds. What a wonderful vacation there… we will be back!
