Although the owners are super Gentile and very close to the beach, the bathrooms are super small, uncomfortable and need ventilation, that's urgent. The restaurant is not in operation.

Absolutely the best place to stay on the nicoya peninsula. Mark is amazing at showing you all to hot spots and hidden gems in the area. Will be back for sure!

This place is in one of the most beautiful I have seen. It is so calm and peaceful, this is the pace to go where you want to relax and have a real get-a-way. The only thing better than the resort was the owners. This couple truly cares if their guest have the best time they can have in Costa Rica and go above and beyond to make that happen. I cannot wait to return with my boyfriend. Thank you.

They were very accommodating to us. My wife and I used their location as a springboard to elope in Costa Rica. We loved the trail to beach, where we were married. Felt very much like we had the whole bay to ourselves. Also, Everett made us amazing meals each day. Really a great place in Tambor!

Very disappointing. More like a hostel than a hotel. There are so many other nicer hotels in the area that take better care of their property. I would never stay here again.

We stayed in the AirB&B apartment with kitchen and it was lovely and peaceful, shaded by trees populated with monkeys, birds, and iguanas. The rooms are beautifully decorated and appointed and super-clean. We bought local fish at the dock and barbequed, walked to the calm beach to swim and ride the occasional wave, participated in a yoga class in the airy covered yoga deck, and were given a day-long tour of the area by Mark that including local sites and swimming spots. Mark, Holly, and Mason were welcoming, efficient, AND laid-back — a great combo for hosts.

Just home from an amazing trip to Tambor! I was not staying at Mar y Sol although I did meet Mark and Holly who were super nice. I did however eat breakfast and dinner at the restaurant everyday for a week! Everett is a wonderful chef and every meal was delicious. The pizza was excellent. The fish was great! I can't say enough about how perfect every meal was! Thank you.

We just got home after spending the week with Mark, Holly and Mason at Mar y Sol. It was obvious from the start of our vacation that Mark and Holly love what they are doing and that they really want their guests to have fun!. My teenage son and I arrived and we were greeted at the airport by Mark who picked us up and took us back to their ecotel. The atmosphere was relaxed, the rooms exactly the same as the pictures on social media and travel related sites. The most importan…t thing that resonated with me as an avid traveler was the fact that we truly felt like we were part of their family. Mark was our guide for a private tour of Curu National Park, snorkeling and a visit to Tortuga Island. He really was engaging and made sure that my son participated in all of the activities and he even went out of his way to take us on a second excursion and hike to see the Jesus tree on his own time. As a "family" we went to Montezuma and we had a great dinner out together on one of our last nights at Mar y sol. All of the recommended independent excursions were also of high quality including our half day ATV tour from Tambor to Montezuma that my son and I enjoyed immensely. The breakfast was high quality with traditional Costa Rican food along with fresh fruits, great coffee, eggs and toast. There is also twice a week yoga and meditation area on premise and everything including restaurants and the beach is right around the corner. We did NOT want to leave.

Thank you Holly and Mark for having our family at your place. What a hidden gem. Even thou we came on the day a hurricane was supposed to hit — we enjoyed every second of it! Far away from the ordinary we experienced real hospitality. Our 6year old almost broke his collarbone on a hike and sure Mark didn't hesitate to take us to a local Doc and translated our case. 1 Mio Thank you's and Holly Thank you for doing our laundry.

Jeanette and I stayed with Holly, Mark & Mason for 10 days in March 2016. I cannot begin to tell you how much we enjoyed this place and our Hosts. This Ecotel is quaint, impeccably clean, quiet and peaceful. The restaurant is exceptional and the wood fired pizza is to die for. If you are looking for total laid back, surrounded by beautiful Costa Rica, this is the place. Can't wait to return and will do so soon. Thanks for all the good times. Love you guys.

Small family run business that are willing to bend over backwards to show you around the local area and where the cool spots are. A separate family works the kitchen which is delicious. The rooms are a bit low frill but do include a TV (in case you actually need that) and a few rooms with AC to chill out. Easy on the wallet too. This place stole me away from the over priced one on the beach just a short stumble away.

We planned on staying just one night, and ended up staying 4! We even would have stayed longer if we could have! This was all thanks to the genuine and personalized attention that Mark and Holly showered us with during our stay. The place was beautifully set, with cozy murals in each room, and well located next to Tambor beach and accessible to many other tourist attractions (that Mark will happily get you set up with). The food at the attached restaurant was delicious… Ezekiel the chef is a true gem at his craft. Thank you Mar y Sol for a very memorable stay in Tambor. Wishing you all the best for the new year!

Quiet and funky hotel. It seems like staying at a friends place. Rooms painted with unique themes. Jungle room especially nice for kids. Bunk bed and full. Short walk to beach and the little grocery store.
