Very nice atmosphere, excellent service, is just a couple from the beach, although the restaurant is very limited in its options are a few dishes, there are no vegetarian or vegan options and there is no way to exchange for some substitute meat.

The place has group rooms/hostel, private rooms with communal restrooms n showers, and private rooms with private bathrooms. Make sure you know what you are booking because this place gets busy and same day upgrades are not always available. Other than that the place is awesome for backpackers and groups. It has a young party type atmosphere. They have activities throughout the week some free others not. Even if you aren’t staying here it’s a cool place to visit in the evening. They will usually have live music on the weekends.

Stay the day poolside for 10.000 colones. The service was slow and inattentive perhaps because of short staffing. Food was decent, but not a fan of the coctails. Those things did not have a big impact on our stay however. The atmosphere is pleasant. Predominately for travelers in their 20s and 30s, not kid friendly. Well kept facilities. Overall a pleasant experience.

Great hostel, stayed in the 8p dorm, all beds have 2 plugs and air conditioning, hurt my food during the free tour, which would have been awesome without the pooring rain, staff was really helpful with getting tweezers and alcohol to get the splinter out of my foot. Next day the surf instructors suggested I should rest my hurt foot instead of making money out of me on a lesson. The pool, bar, rooms and scenery look great!

First off, I want to say I am Tica. But this review needs to go in English for everyone to understand. Thursday July 5th was my very first stay at a Selina hostel and I must admit it was a HORRIBLE start.
We arrive at the front desk and the guy (who although was very nice, was not very professional) literally could not find us booked. Later on he told us that the room that had been booked for us was actually being occupied by a Selina employee and that "no one knew where he was at". They sent us to another room, the A/C didn´t work. Because the heat was unbearable we were moved to another room, which was in all honesty worst than the first one. It was bigger and prettier, but there was a very disgusting sewer smell. The room had not been prepared by room service, there were dirty towels all over the place, a huge puddle of God knows what and the A/C didn´t work yet again. A service man proposed to have us switched to a 3rd room, but he left and never came back.
We spent a horrible night, without A/C and dealing with an uninhabitable smell. I placed the concern to the girl in charge on the front desk and all she did was apologize and offer us free food. She was nice, I guess she did what she could. But I just think that the hotel personnel didn´t quite grasp the gravity of the situation: If I called the Ministerio de Salud, they would have probably closed the entire place for operating in such terrible conditions.

I absolutely loved Selina Jaco. The location was utterly perfect and the hostel was very upscale for a hostel. The staff was all lovely and spoke great English. The food was great. There were cool activities and the other people staying were super friendly. I made lots of friends. The BEST though was hands down the surf camp! Matias and Rodrigo were amazing instructors — the patience of gods, but also challenging, so you have to make the most of your lessons. I didn't want to leave and will always remember my time there with a huge smile! I can't wait to return.

The hotel is different with a youthful ambiance, colorful and relaxing, but as a decorator I can say that there are certain details that should take care of as the of the curtains that they put in some of the rooms as they do not allow the guest to have privacy because you can see the entire inside of the room more at night. The reception area should be more professional because there is an order and the attitude of some employees in that area is very vague. Then the food at the restaurant on Sundays has no taste and the portions they give are very small for the price that one is paying. I also felt the way like clean the kitchen in the restaurant area because it makes a kind of pipe, all horrible and even travel out there becomes uncomfortable so I think that the administration should take action in the matter and be more ordered because the price per night is not so cheap that say that no refinement in these areas. Depends not only on make a hotel eye-catching and unique if not that also make the guest feel received and welcomed during the stay, and in my case with the bedroom and the restaurant was otherwise.

Selina Jaco was an incredible stay. I was there for 4 days and so happy I got to be able to call this hostel my home for that time. Beautiful interiors and exteriors, very pleasing on the eyes. Delicious food and clean, comfortable rooms and beds. Super cool coworking initiative and apparently tons of really cool customer service initiatives as well. I actually was so intrigued by this hostel that I did a little research on its founder and it’s origination and over-all system, and that’s where I discovered that the desk-staff are apparently unpaid. They are entirely volunteer interns that just get to have a free room and a small monthly food allowance of $10/day at their restaurant, and actually have to pay a fee for the internship as well. Kind of a wild employment system. Anyways, Yamanick, a male staff member at Selina Jaco, he is an incredible staff member who is very kind, enthusiastic, funny, genuine, helpful and attentive to the guests. Most other staff members seemed very disinterested or annoyed by the guests, but I don’t blame them after finding out they are basically working for free. Anyways, the indifferent employees did not affect my stay negatively whatsoever. Just something to comment on after my discoveries. A beautiful hostel but left a bad taste in my mouth when I found out I’m paying $18USD to sleep in a 6-bedroom-dorm where the staff aren’t even getting paid a decent wage. Kind of sad, but to each their own.

Selina is full of vibrant individuals from all type of background. The atmosphere of the hostel is like no other hostel, it's definitely VIP status compare to any hostel I've been to and right on the beach. The staff was awsome especially the reception desk they have great hospitality, knowledge about Jaco, and a plus there bilingual. They whole staff was on top of everything and all the classes were free besides the surf lessons. I would definitely stay at Selina again and if I could give it ten stars I would. Very young atmosphere of party people. When we arrived as a family we sat at a table to enjoy some fresh smoothies and food. The good was great and the smoothies were delicious. There was a DJ playing music by the pool and a lot of people just lounging around the modern lawn chairs which is nice. The reason for the 3 stars was that while one of the kids in our group was swimming someone threw up in the pool and no one batted an eye lash. Gross. But I guess it comes with the territory of the party atmosphere.
