I write about this as a building, not a hotel. The story goes that this Swedish person, Moller, was rich and built this fantasy house to please his daughter. And it is fantastic, more like a Harry Potter place than anything else. I have visited it many times. If you go inside for a cup of tea or dinner, it is as fantastic inside as on the outside, and the garden as well. It is an oasis in Shanghai. Anders.

The Moller is a really grand old hotel located on the busy and hip Shaan Xi South Rd, and only 45 min walk from the Bund. The breakfast was enjoyable and you could request an omelette made to order. Staff were a bit awkward and some of them need a lesson in customer service. We were astounded when they wanted to charge us RMB 3000 to use the meeting room. They eventually let us use a downstairs area for our meeting and all we were required to do was order some tea and snacks to cover the "costs", but it took a while to get this sorted. Similarly, when we asked if we could order a few beers at the bar they said that we had to order a meal. Eventually they agreed to serve us the beers but the staff watched us in unamused amazement as we cracked open our beers and drank from the bottles, as is normal practice in Australia.

Excellent for tea or dinner.

Impressive but only short visit recommended.

Wi-Fi signal weak, unlike other hotel no Facebook or Google connection. Hot water not strong enough. Room too small at the price.

A rare, truly old castle style building with a Japanese style garden. There is also a restaurant with some typical dishes.

Building is very chic, like a Magic Castle. After changing still. Be sure to have afternoon tea, is very good!

Rooms in the old building are charming and good for a romantic weekend, but are a bit run down. The old mansion is great and the rooms in the new wing are nice. English level of the staff is a bit spotty.
