Review of Harbour House Hotel 3*

Let me tell you about my experience at the harbor house restaurant. This was the worst restaurant I have ever been to in my 21 years on this planet. I had informed the restaurant I was celebrating my girlfriends 21st birthday when I made reservations. When we arrived we were told to sit wherever we liked. It took 10 minutes for us to receive water and menu's. First off I ordered a beer. Only after I finished the beer I noticed the bottom of the inside of the mug was coated with blue ink (were they using this to hold pens?!? ). I was pretty discussed expecting the meal to be comped the waiter/bartender told me the beer was "on him". After that incident we waited 10 more minutes when I had to call over the waiter to order food. The food was a long wait and it was much longer as we watched a table next to us be served bread and oil. While we received none. I asked the waiter if he was going to bring us bread to which he replied sorry I forgot. The bread he brought us was cold and so saturated with oil that upon squeezing it with my fingers it expelled a large amount of oil on to the plate. My girlfriend ordered a steak which she asked to be cooked medium. It came extremely overdone. Not to mention the steak was hardly a half inch thick. (Keep in mind this is a $26 steak. ) The steak was also smothered in blue cheese which was not mentioned on the menu. After returning the steak (which I have actually never done at a restaurant) I tried my lamb burger. The lamb was not dry it was cooked half decently however it had absolutely zero flavor and the burger looked like it had been thrown together in half a minute with sauce mess all over the plate (I've seen a nicer made burger at McDonald's). We waited 10 minutes for her steak to come at which point we decided to leave. I told the manager I was not paying for anything because of the horrible experience we had. He called out the extremely greasy disgusting looking chef who started to threaten to call the police. If this wasn't a very special occasion I would of told him I'd call them myself and the health inspector at the same time. However it was my girlfriends 21st birthday and I wasn't about to let some unprofessional joke of a cook ruin our night. I remained polite, quiet and respectful the entire time to which I was answered with extreme rude and childish behavior. I paid for my burger and promptly left (leaving a note for the owner. Which was probably never passed on. ) We went to treehouse and managed to salvage our night. I would recommend treehouse for anyone visiting saltspring. Please if your the owner of this restaurant call Mystery Diner's or Kitchen Impossible because this is the absolutely worst restaurant I have ever been to in my life. Please no one ever go here.
