I had the worst experience with front desk personnel while trying to assist with a reservation during a snow squall which made the roads too hazardous to drive. Condescending, rude, patronizing — never mind heartless given the circumstance… While I get that there are two sides to every story — I was on the phone with the family member that was in the lobby (they just lost their mom two days earlier and were only on the road after saying their farewells and planning a funeral) when I heard the woman at the front desk laugh at her. A family member was asking staff to clarify something and she was laughed at by the lady at the front desk. Thankfully we had much less hassle and far better treatment, with ease of booking just up the road. We dodged a bullet and will NEVER stay at this particular location. To be honest, I don’t think I’d ever stay at any of their places once I heard the front desk laugh at a going through so much. It was the least compassionate thing I have heard in a long time. ***UPDATE*** I just received a phone call from Saleem (the GM) who tried expressing how wonderful this staff member is, and that she has had no negative reviews, and that they are in Canada. He went on politely at first and then tried to put the blame on us for our experience. He then proceeded to tell me that he has the ability to make the exception and that they could have accommodated them, but when we asked for the GM (Saleem) the lady at the front desk wasn’t willing to call him — she proceeded with her previous behaviour and further escalated the situation. By the time our conversation was concluding, Saleem threatened me with his legal team and said he will remove my negative review and have his lawyers go after me for leaving one. After I called his bluff he said their legal department doesn’t have time for this situation… Well Saleem, leaving a negative review isn’t illegal! Not one apology and yet now several family members were involved in trying to secure a room elsewhere (which happened thanks to amazing, kind hearted staff) and NONE of us will ever stay in a Microtel anything by anyone.
