Holiday Inn Express and Suites Calgary, an IHG Hotel

This location would not switch the booking to another location of same brand as we need to be elsewhere. However two other locations as we called them in town with same company said they would have no problem. This location is Extremely unhelpful, difficult and not easy to deal with. This taints my view of Holiday Inn Express and will Never recommend them or stay there.
I own a few businesses n travel lots, stay in many hotels and never had such issue and horrible customer service. My husband in having surgery tomorrow and should be able to recover in desired location. This particular location will be hard for family to visit when he is recovering, as we are in from out of town and have family in town. Now knowone can visit him.
Super unhappy with this Holiday Inn Express.
Further I will be calling head office.

Beautiful and clean and very friendly staff.

Bedside table not clean. Room had a gross muggy smell to it. Breakfast not great. Television has all channels listed with only a few of them actually available to watch. Customer service is good. Staff is friendly. Close to downtown Calgary.

Usually I am a big fan of Holiday Inn's. This one I am not. The location is horrible. The building is old and smells. The parking area has an overwhelming smell of urine. The carpets are dated and stained. They advertise recently renovated rooms, I don't believe this. The shower head appears to be the original and has lots of calcium build up. Over all not impressed and will not be returning ever again.

Decent hotel. Updated rooms. Comfortable beds. Noise from street heard easily through windows. Was near the elevator and quite noisy in the hallway. Good complimentary breakfast.

We have a view of downtown Calgary which lit up beautifully at night. We were one block away from the train and could get anywhere in this city pretty easily. The hotel room was well setup. I would recommend that the hotel consider repainting the bathrooms, replacing the towels and making sure that all rooms are thoroughly dusted. Breakfast bar was well stocked, the staff was friendly and fellow travelers were fun and easy to talk to. It was a pleasant experience.

Asked for ice from a head injury, the conciliar wouldn't bring it up for me. I believe running ice is part of the duty to guests staying. This was the same conciliar who refused to check for a cot for our room, giving some story about how 2 families checked them out when the manager working before showed us the spare in the supply area. Parking is found behind the hotel and the ramp to get parking is at a 45° angle so might want to be comfortable driving with that. The place over all is a good location, you can walk to clubs or downtown restaurants. However the view is rail roads and rundown city scape. I guess this is what you have for a cheaper place to sleep.

Nice room for the price in downtown Calgary. Within easy walking distance of many good choices for food and shopping.

Just another Holiday Inn. Nothing to make it stand out.

I'd say a solid 4.7… clean, very quiet with only 7 rooms on our floor. Toiletries replaced daily. The soaker tub was welcome after a day exploring!

No breakfast. Poor gym. Dirty room. Parking was horrible. Everything was just wrong about this place for the amount it charges.

The ssmtay was comfortable, located near by the 8th Avenue, walkable to ctrain station, and easily accessible, peaceful stay overall.

Nice little pub. In for a and to put a little on the slots. Next time I'll go to the comedy club.

Convenient location on 8th Ave; near downtown core of Calgary. Efficient staff and clean building. Only downside is the thermostat is built into the old school heater in the corner of the room; no automatic settings to keep a consistent temperature — its either on or off.

The hotel is fine, the parking options are not. There’s a small underground lot, which I don’t believe has access to accommodate a full size pickup, so you’re forced to park in an unsecured covered lot which is the perfect setting for car break-ins. Co-workers of mine have had their vehicle broken into in the covered lots.

Nice room, pleasant staff. Could have a little bit more variety for breakfast. 5 day stay and the same everyday.

The staff was very helpful. They kindly accepted a room change request upon arrival. The room was clean and tidy. The only thing that could have been improved is have complimentary water! But I guess that's all part of the business nowadays!

This hotel is located on the end of downtown, Calgary. Rooms were all updated and modern. Parking is FREE with your stay which seems like impossible to find anytime you stay downtown. Breakfast in the morning is also included and it is a full breakfast — eggs, bacon, sausages, cereal, oatmeal, toast, pancakes… awesome. The gym definitely needs some repairs/updating. Overall, I would recommend this hotel. — — staff were extremely friendly as well.

Very good location and excellent price.

Clean rooms, nice complimentary breakfast and friendly staff made the check in/out easy. Quick walk to Beltline and Downtown areas. Would stay again when in the city.

Was not super impressed. Good breakfast, terrible location. Maybe because we went in an offseason but none of the stores around we're open and they got our room mixed up. They did try fixing that however not a great place for kids as there's nothing for them at this hotel. Booked through a friends and family website that stated there was a pool and a hot tub. Won't stay at this location again. This review does not reflect all other Holiday Inn experiences I have had just this location.

This hotel was good value for money, with parking, Wi-Fi and breakfast included. The room was spacious and clean with everything we needed. The location was handy, though being downtown almost everything is closed on Sundays so bear that in mind. There was quite a bit of noise both from within the hotel and from outside, but otherwise I couldn't fault our stay.

The room we stayed in was clean and very nice. The staff was attentive and nice as well. We stayed two nights and our stay was as good if not better than I expected it would be.

Good downtown location. Friendly staff. Room was nice and clean. Upgraded to a king executive room which was nice and big. Breakfast was good, standard holiday inn express breakfast.

Good service. Housekeeping was fast and effective at responding to calls. Room was clean and modern. Complimentary breakfast was just what you needed, plenty of options, good grab and go. It was equivalent to going through a mcdonalds for breakfast. Only con was the location, the rougher side of downtown Calgary. With the abundance of possible shady characters, you would think the hotel would spring for security. There was no security whatsoever. No key required for stairs or elevators. And there may have been incidents already because they had a list of precautions for guests like "call front desk if someone knocks and claims to be an employee". Pretty scary! Also the underground parking has a steep incline at the entrance, hazardous to low cars! Otherwise very good stay considering the price.

The location seemed to be a few blocks into a rough part of town. We'd heard how clean and well-kept Calgary is, but didn't get to experience that until walking a few blocks toward the center of town through littered sidewalks — trash, discarded clothes, etc. We were also warned we should park in the garage to avoid having the local homeless "investigate" our car. The suite was comfortable enough — the bed was amazing — but the door didn't have any level of soundproofing (it actually had to be pulled against the latch to set the deadbolt), so we heard everything going on in the hallway. We could even hear goings-on in other rooms, and neighbors' conversations echoing on the balcony into our room. The front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating, and found us a slightly quieter room for the rest of our stay. The breakfast was fantastic, though — great variety of both cold and hit foods. Overall, not a bad place to stay for the price point, but I think we'll spend the extra few bucks and stay a little closer to the center of town next time we visit.

Hotel is clean and modern. I was fortunate to stay in a king suite which was very spacious and comfortable. Being an Express it included the familiar breakfast we've come to know which is convenient — though seating is a little limited when the hotel is busy as it appeared to be on my visit. While the location is on the southern end if downtown the free train in Calgary's downtown core made it easy to move around and is close by the hotel.

Location was good for us as it was close to where we wanted to go for the night. Customer service was aweful! Dealt with my problem very unprofessionally and will never stay here again.

On the first day, we were shocked about the location. That's our fault for not checking in advance. As we drove our car into the hotel parkade on the main floor, we had the "wonderful" view of a man urinating in the corner of the parkade. Then leaving with his group of friends. Not surprising, because of the location of this hotel. Reception was friendly, but he forgot to give us the code for the underground parkade. We were very pleased with the cleanliness and spaciousness of the room — queen bed. The following day we went on a one-day trip to Banff, and came back late to our room which was left untouched. Housekeeping had forgotten to come in to do our room. Toiletries were not replaced. Luckily, we brought our own toiletries, and we just reused the towels. The next day, I went to front desk to complain, but all the employee could offer was a nonchalant apology. He said he couldn't offer us a discount because we booked through Expedia. That's understandable, but could he not at least offer some kind of compensation, like a voucher for a discounted stay at the next Holiday Inn we go to? I really like Holiday Inn, but I most definitely will not be returning to this location. I sent pretty much the same review to the IHG website and they refused to post my review on there because it didn't "comply" with the guidelines. Then when I tried to review the hotel on Expedia, it conveniently says "System is temporarily unavailable, please try again later.

Even though they are currently undergoing reservations, this hotel provides excellent service and most necessary amenities. Wonderfully comfy beds and the awesome water pressure in the shower made my stay extra pleasant. I will definitely stay here again.

Front staff was great and my room was not avalible so they where quick to upgrade me to a more amazing room. Defanitly a great place to stay.

The staff were nice I liked how close it was the the LRT.

Downtown location, free parking onsite. Nice suites, great staff. Located right on the free C-Train line. Not a great neighbourhood. — 6/10.

— Screwed up our reservation — Have homeless people sleeping in the parkade and back hallways of the hotel leading to/from the parkade — Waited 45 minutes for someone to speak with us about our issues. — All we got for our troubles was a "I'm sorry. " Not a "I'm sorry, how can we make it up to you? " or "I'm sorry for your experience, please let me resolve it by. " Story: Within 10 minutes of checking in we had issues. We booked two beds non smoking and email verification, but they only had king non-smoking available at check in and didn't tell us. After seeing the room we went to straighten our issue and found ourselves waiting for the elevator and decided to take the stairs. The stairs led out into the parkade where we found a homeless couple sleeping. Now we were trapped between a locked door and a irate homeless couple. When we finally got to the front desk we waited 45 minutes to speak to the manager and all we got was "I'm sorry, can we upgrade you to a smoking room for an additional fee? " No thanks. This place was bullsh! t and I will never stay there again.
