Cutty Sark Lodge

In major need of renovation. The rooms we stayed in were quite run down, rather resembling a tired army barracks. Our room also had no towels (hand or bath) when we arrived, nor any soap for washing hands. The food is poor value for money, the pictured Full breakfast was $10. The views are lovely and the staff were great, especially the barman whose name escapes me. Can’t really recommend unless some improvements work is completed.

Our stay was good and the place is very nice and clean but in the morning, Zesa went off and we were told that the generator guy is not around so no power Offwhich we wanted to use microwave.

The rooms are rundown and the buildings are now old some have huge cracks. They need to modernise the place, I. E toilets and bath tubs,
They have the best views of the Dam though, and the staff are very welcoming and accomodating.

After a 25 year absence we visited Kariba to take the Mlibizi ferry, so The Cutty Sark was a good stopover. The rooms are clean and well kept, staff are friendly and helpful and the pricing reasonable.

Sadly we had only one night to sample this delightful Lodge on the shores of Lake Kariba but the rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. A late supper was provided on arrival which was later than expected owing to the condition of the roads in Zambia and the traffic. Breakfast was excellent and the service provided by the staff was beyond what one could expect. It would be great to be able to return but Kariba is so inaccessible. Surely there could be flights either from Victoria Falls, or Lusaka or Harare. To travel by road is a nightmare from any of these places.

We traveled here as two young women in our mid-20s. On the second night of our stay, two men armed with machetes and other weapons tried to break into our room while we were inside. It was clear that these men had been watching us for some time and were familiar with the property. The security guards either didn’t notice anything or were colluding with the attackers—I don’t know. They only showed up half an hour later after we went looking for them.
The lodge manager, Norman, dismissed our concerns as exaggerated, stating “This is Africa. ” There are no cameras, the windows are not barred, and according to Norman, “You simply can’t have security everywhere. ” He also blamed us, saying we had seen the photos of the lodge beforehand and should have known what we were getting into.
Please do not visit this lodge. It is simply not safe, and Norman seems either completely unaware of this or just doesn’t care. Overall, he was extremely rude, arrogant, and dismissive when we asked for a refund for that night. He refused to take any responsibility for the attack and didn’t even apologize for the danger and trauma we experienced. I find the whole situation suspicious.
Even without this traumatic incident, I wouldn’t recommend the lodge. Our rooms were filthy, most of the bed linens had rat holes, the furniture was rundown, and the Wi-Fi only worked in some rooms and was unreliable.

What a lovely refurbished little place to just chill and relax. Amazing room with aircon and all the possible needs one wants. Great tentative staff as well, thanks Norman and crew.

The cutty sark hotel has a fantastic view of the lake. Went for dinner and ordered ribs and Kariba bream for dinner, of which both were cooked impeccably.
While having a few drinks at the bar, we were visited by an elephant which came right up to the bar area.

I had a lovely time at Cutty sark, my Room was very comfortable, air-conditioned, cleaned regularly and had an amazing view of the lake. We were visited by elephants almost every night and they even came up to my windows! I work remotely and the free Wi-Fi was great for keeping up with work while around the lodge, it also reached a wide space so I could work at the bistro or by the pool. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. I travel alone and found staff and other guests here to be very friendly and welcoming, we were all stuck in the bar one evening watching the elephants pass through and the atmosphere was great chatting and getting to know more about the local area, we even arranged to have a group braai on my last night. I will definitely be booking to come back soon! thank you for a great stay.

We were a large party and stayed in Fishermans Cove (self catering lodge that sleeps 16). The 8 double bedrooms were pristine and very comfortable. The swimming pool was perfect for little kids with a large shallow area. Views from the balcony were amazing. Wildlife wandering on your doorstep and through the garden. We ordered our food and drinks ahead of time from Fresh and Crispy and paid for a chef. This took all the hassle out of shopping and cooking while we were there, and transporting the food from Harare. Our chef was a lady called Georgina — WOW. I cannot speak highly enough of this lady, her cooking was amazing — 2-3 meals a day served to a large group. Dzidzai was our housekeeping lady and Georgina's helper, also highly recommend this lady. The staff were all fantastic. I would definately stay here again.

The rooms are, clean, offering all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. The air conditioning was particularly appreciated given the warm climate. Some room's balcony provide a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the breathtaking sunsets over the lake.
Dining at the hotel's restaurant was a delight. The menu offers a simple but perfectly suitable selection of dishes. The breakfast hit the spot!
