The camp is modest. Views of the river from the tents are great. From the tents, it’s about 100 m walk to the shared bathroom. Breakfast was good (although a little slow ti arrive).
The best part were the activities. Rafting the Nile with Tim as boat captain (plus Moses, Hamid, Paul and others as support/safety crew) was memorable!
All the raft crew were clearly experienced and valued safety. When some of our crew wanted to try class 5 rapids and others didn’t, we split into 2 boats to satisfy everyone.
The class 5 ride was wild. When any of us got tossed out of the boat, the safety crew immediately helped us to safety.
We also did a sunset dinner cruise. There was a great selection of food and beverages. The views were great, and Ali pointed out wildlife along the way and answered various questions.
Summary: great staff, great fun, modest but clean accommodations.
My father and I stayed here for two separate nights during a trip around Uganda.
Nile River Explorers has spacious and intriguing grounds, with dorms, tents, a restaurant/bar, large shower/restroom facilities, a mini-treehouse, and even a slide into the river! The rooms are comfortable and well-equipped with fans and blankets. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful with every request.
The restaurant offers lovely views across the Nile — you're right on the bank. A favourite element of our stay was the large group of (two species of) monkeys who come chattering and skittering around in the cool morning.
The location was a little difficult to get to. We arrived after a couple hours of rain and had great trouble getting up the small hill in our little 4x4 because of the extreme muddiness of the roads. This is likely the case anywhere in Uganda during rainfall; just be aware that is a small hill from Jinja up to Budongo.
It is 20 minutes' drive from the main intercity roads and the middle of Jinja.
The restuarant food is expensive (20, 000-30, 000 Shillings) given that local food is around 2, 000-10, 000 Shillings.

We stayed at Jinja Explorers River Camp for one night with our rooftop tent and had a great experience. The campsite offers everything a traveler could wish for, including clean toilets and hot showers. The presence of a restaurant and bar adds to the convenience, and it’s also a fantastic starting point for numerous activities on the Nile, which can be easily booked on-site.
The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the breathtaking view of the Nile—a picturesque setting that made our visit truly special.
For campers, a small word of caution: avoid pitching your tent directly under the palm trees. In the middle of the night, a large branch fell near us, missing by only a few inches—an experience we won’t soon forget!
Overall, the place is a beautiful and well-maintained spot for camping and exploring the Nile. Highly recommended for both the views and the amenities!
