Just had the Meat Box takeaway. Highly recommended, food was awesome. Notably the belly pork and the corn cobs.

Had our first takeaway this lunchtime and brilliant it was too. Brie starter (yummy) followed by a roast beef and a roast ham for two of us before you think one person was greedy. Enormous portions and delivered perfectly on time. We look forward to drinking and dining out at the Alma just as soon as we can — the best local hostelry for food and service in the locality.

Ordered takeout for NYE and as always, absolutely faultless. Unbelievable value for money with the share boxes. Cannot recommend the Alma enough, thank you as always and Happy new year to you all! We cant wait until we can be back joining you up ont'hill again!

Unfortunately no I carnt rate the alma we found the staff rude, slow service and we was there for the evening, and normally we pay on a tab but as we was sat outside but next to the bar they needed payment each time. Had food which wasn't great for the price. Won't be going back which is a shame.

Absolutely delicious takeaway 3 course Sunday lunch from The Alma. Easy to order and collect. Hot enough to eat when we got home. Great quality, beef was still really pink when we sat down to eat. Puddings gorgeous. Will order again, thank you!

The best firework display I’ve ever been to. It’s now my family’s yearly place to go. It’s a lovely pub & the firework event is always lively & stunning.

In March myself, hubby and one daughter plus her boyfriend went to celebrate the men’s birthdays and the steaks were excellent that daughter and partner had but my steak and ale pie was really dry and husbands burger also not brilliant which was such a shame. I am really pleased that the management at Alma noticed we were disappointed and we had another meal a few weeks later which was on the house and was lovely
Love the view when weather is warmer and will look forward to sitting outside with a large Vino.

Amazing. Such good value. Delicious vegan options in the restaurant and good generous portion sizes. Breakfast was brill. Nice addition of avacado along with tasty veggie sausages. Even had vegan spread which is rare for pubs. Room was lovely with an amazing view. Just a fab time. We'll be back!

Rooms were lovely, clean and cozy. Views were stunning from the room. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Trying different locally sourced drinks in the bar, great. The food was one thing that let the experience down, over priced and balsamic vinegar on everything (to much of a good thing).

Nice view and polite staff, but poor food. Chips were supermarket style oven fries, red onion chutney was watery (not really a chutney at all) and the cheese was just plain. Not what you expect when paying £7 (plus another £2.50 for the chips). Staff were attentive but were also talking between themselves about poor shift management whilst serving customers. Would probably stop by for a drink on a sunny day, but wouldn't have food again.

A real hidden gem is this place! Incredible views, a lovely seating area out back and dog friendly. The decor inside is great. Almost takes that country pub feel and gives it a comedic, contemporary twist. Famous locally for their pizzas, it's definitely worth the trip out. Vegan cheese is also available, so there's no reason to hold back due to dietary requirements. Draft beer and a cozy feel! Go have a nosey.

Quite a challenging drive on some narrow roads to reach this pub but well worth it if you do. I only drank here and didn't try the food but from what I saw it's very good. I could see they had a pizza oven in the kitchen and the pizzas look nice. It's also once of the few pubs I know that has a decent beergarden on a bit of grass. On a sunny day it's a gorgeous place to sit with fantastic views of the rolling local countryside.

Excellent accommodation and fantastic food in a lovely location. Best beer garden around with great views. Brilliant value for money, we will be back.

We popped up for an early tea on Monday, and everything was spot on. Drinks in the sunshine with an idyllic view so calm and peaceful after a crazy day. Food and service were both spot on! We will be returning soon!

Lovely pub in a beautiful countryside setting. Food was delicious, our room was lovely and the staff were friendly & helpful. I will definitely go back and recommend going to everyone.

Seriously disappointed. They just couldn't be bother to accommodate a simple request, despite having done it previous times. Feel completely unwelcome. Must point out that their are a couple of young lads working in the bar area that have always been helpful and friendly but unfortunately the lady working in the restaurant area really let it down. Really sad to say I don't think we will be going back.

4 of us visited last night. Lovely atmosphere, live music (a pleasant surprise) drink outside looking out at beautiful views. Pizza ok… but too doughy and not enough topping. Crispy, thin base and lots of topping is the way to go. Wine pricey so overall bill quite hefty for pizza meal. If you got your pizzas right it would be top notch.

Overnight stay and it was a lovely place very comfortable andthe staff were fabulous I cant fault the place. The room was perfect and breakfast was quick hot and delicious.

Beautiful location with a very authentic 'inn' feel. The food available caters to any taste and is beautiful as well as reasonably priced. Not somewhere you'd drive past every day but is a pleasure to drive to from any direction. Highly recommended!

Decent food and a good atmosphere as well as varied range of drinks. Even better on a warm sunny day with cracking views from the outside terrace across the local hillsides.

Bit of a strange place. Rather feels like a posh-ish bar and restaurant rather than a proper country pub. The staff are always friendly, but I never feel comfortable just stopping in for a pint half way around walking the dog. (They are dog friendly though. ) In the evening the bar tends to be a bit too full for my taste and all the tables are usually reserved for diners. Eaten there once, and the food was nice, but I was stopping in with a client at lunchtime. We really just wanted a sandwich or something, but were presented with a three course fixed price menu. We were able to order something a bit more appropriate, but it was all slightly embarrassing. Think of it as a friendly bustling restaurant and you won't go to far wrong, but it doesn't really feel like a pub you can just drop in on and prop up the bar.

Stayed here twice, nice cosy pub with friendly staff, real fires downstairs, very dog friendly and great views across the valley. Room was lovely, nice quality finish with everything including the bedding and towels. Mine had a nice view out the back to the hills, it looks like it would be a great beer garden area in the summer but I was lucky enough to have a snowy view this time. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order, I had eggs royale and coffee it was delicious. Ate in the bar at night the first time I was there, they've got a good choice of pub favourites with a quality twist. I had the scotch egg and then smoked haddock and spinach risotto, other people I was with had scallops, calamari, steak and shepherds pie and every one of them was really good. Would definitely recommend for either a meal out or an overnight stay.

The coffee in the morning was slightly too weak for my liking … Thats it thats my only gripe… Otherwise just perfect. Good banter from the staff, beautiful and clean rooms, great view, fantastic food, amazing value… you want me to go on? Best place Ive stayed this year.

The decor is really nice. Update We've just been for a Sunday lunch. It was fantastic, with generous portions and skillfully cooked and presented. I had a roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, red cabbage, seasonal greens and cauliflower cheese; my wife had a mushroom Wellington which she loved. The wait staff are excellent. My wife was very happy with Liam's nuts!

The only reason we go here is for the decent beer & the view. There's rarely a welcoming feel at the Alma and the food is pretty dull, but that view…

Great pub, open fire, even better beer! The food was also fantastic, figs with Gorgonzola cheese, and the best cheesy chips in the world! Take your dog and go see it for yourself.

Went to the advertised bonfire and fireworks last night … erm no bonfire so you can imagine my 5 year old grandson very disapointed. Free hot dogs for children but mine wanted a burger doesn't like hot dogs … so a burger with a slice of cheese £5 please … sorry did I miss hear that? £ 5? Yes £5 but it's a quality one I am told … after a couple of bites by said boy it was noted to be pink inside the burger … rather a large queue to take it back. Fireworks by Pete Williamson excellent but for sure we won't attend again with the rip off price … a price list with actual food available would have been useful as I imagine those families with more than one child would have have hefty tab … One other thing if purchased drinks inside given plastic glasses yet sold glass bottles of lager at outside bar.

New refurbishment it look amazing and very cosy with wood log fires burning. Dog friendly and great food. Manor House style bedrooms with a fresh retro style bathrooms can't fault it.

Beautiful views, lovely breakfast, just a bit dated. Needs modernising. Hospitality was great, staff pleasant, let's hope the new owner is just as nice!

Great location, nice staff. Make sure to arrive no later than 7:50 for pizza as they close the kitchen at 8 on weekday evenings.

Very nice, good Timmy Taylor's Landlord and nice food. On the whole a very enjoyable experience, lovely setting also.

I had a few drinks at the bar and it was a very nice atmosphere. The barman was a young lad who was very polite and we had a few conversations throughout the night. Good drinks and excellent service!

Nice lunch. Homemade soup and wood fired pizza. Great views of you are luck enough to get a sunny day.

Visited with colleagues for some drinks and dinner, typical local place like others in the area, little guy with nice and friendly staff. Is at the top of the Hill and of course nestled in the typical Green of the Valley. Dinner was OK and typical dishes, I don't know the rooms not having stayed.

I have been to this pub a few times now as I have just moved to the area. Every time I have had a few drinks and food and it has been brilliant every time. Lovely chilled out atmosphere with a really good selection of real ales behind the bar. The food is extremely reasonably priced and portions are very generous. I have tried a pizza, pasta and the goulash which have all been extremely tasty. The king prawn bruschetta to start is my personal favourite. Good hearty pub food, you can't fault it. Feel very lucky that this pub is so close to home.

Quite frankly, l dont think the previous 2 reviewers could have stayed at The Alma Inn (and unbelievably, yes, it is possible to write a review about an establishment without having ever been there. Which quite frankly makes the whole 'Tripadviser' thing wholly wrong, and should not exist, for that reason, plus a restaurant/pub/hotel etc not being allowed to opt out of Tripadvisor. Lt allows the likes of the negative reviewers (below) to put themselves on an imaginary pedestal. L personally owned and ran two very successful Bistros in Wirral some years ago, and thank heavens the likes of Tripadvisor wasnt around then. In defence of The Alma Inn, l was recommended to stay here, (by a local pub l stopped to ask about somewhere good to stay overnight) So good was it, l altered my plans, and stayed an extra night! The owners couldnt have made me more welcome. (something a single female traveller misses out on) The food was great, my room was perfect. Fancy someone complaining about a room having a beam. Perhaps a travel lodge would suit them more! And finally, the icing on the cake, was Ruby, their gorgeous rescue Spaniel, tucked up in the corner. Bothering nobody. But wagging her tail as people arrived and left. L cant wait to go again, and hopefully there'll be snow, to lock us in for days. Magical.

Used to be superb under previous management but is now in rapid decline. Very average food, expensive, and terrible service.

First time in this pub and we had a meal, the service and food is excellent, I would 100 % recommend a visit. We will be going back.

We went on Mother's day and it wasn't fully booked, alarm bells should have been ringing at that point. Waited about 45 mins for a very nice starter of garlic mushrooms. Then waited another 45 mins for the mains, my pizza was a calzone, burnt on top and stone cold in the middle. Told them about it and little was done, the bill was brought with the pizza still on, so I complained again and got it knocked off. Overall slow service and hit and miss food. On a final note my brother spotted a bag of tesco value frozen peas going on the sunday dinners. I wouldn't go again. At these prices you can go to 1885 at Stainland for far better food and service.

If your idea of being able to wash our hands with the towel rack up your noise while in the loo is your ideal bathroom scenario, go there! They are nice people but what a horrible place.
