Review of The Woodman Inn 5*

My wife and I were attending an event in Huddersfield and decided to treat ourselves and book a Superior suite at The Woodman. The description of the suite sounded exactly what we wanted. We booked the suite about three days prior to our trip and there were various rooms, suites etc available at the hotel. We Traveled our 5 plus hour trip from Essex to arrive at the hotel in the evening. On arrival we noticed that the hotel is in a quiet location (which is exactly what we wanted) but to our amazement there were a large number of people outside/Inside and generally about the hotel, there were cars parked everywhere and a lot of noise in and around the hotel. We had traveled a long way so we went inside to check in (after parking some distance away) We had to fight our way to the bar which was full of young people drinking and shouting with loud music playing. We spoke to a man at the bar who rushed us upstairs to our room and rushed away again. We then noticed that we had been given a standard double room and not a suite. There were people running up and down the corridor and we could hear someone vomiting nearby. It was crazy. We went back to the bar to state that we had not been allocated the suite we booked and to tell the staff there was no way we could stay in this place. The staff member I spoke to was irritated that I had come to complain and passed me over to another man who told me that we had been moved from our suite to a standard room because they had a last minute wedding booking and that the DJ was near the suite we booked. This conversation was in the bar area with noise and people everywhere. Eventually I was given a refund (which was not the point) and my wife and I left the hotel and walked back to our car. I asked why we were not told of this before our arrival and I would have made other arrangements. We were clearly in the way and a irritant to the hotel who had made more money through the wedding booking (which I would have understood if they had told me prior to our arrival) This was an absolute disgrace especially the way we were treated. We were now without a hotel and my wife and I who are both nearing 60 years of age having to dress for our function in our car which we found very degrading… Thank you The Woodman Hotel Thunder Bridge.
