Absolutely fantastic here we stayed a week but wanted more time x The staff are wonderful especially Ian the doorman x.

We have just spent 2 days here and I can honestly say it was amazing… the food and the service was amazing they could not do enought for you. Rooms are beautiful and the spa was brilliant. 10/10 and we will be back.

We stayed here for 1 night for my birthday and we had a really great stay. The staff were all helpful, friendly and polite and made us feel very welcome. The room was spacious with a lovely comfy bed. The little extra birthday touches went a long way and were very much appreciated. We'll definitely be back!

Lovely hotel immaculate of course and the staff were all lovely. Only negative was position of our room. It was on the corner ground floor and we had some drunken behaviour out side early hours of rhe morning that woke us. Not hotels fault but I wouldn't want that room again.

Great food and great staff went for a meal to treat a friend on there wedding day excellent service.

Very helpful and friendly. Nice large room with a luxurious bathroom and underfloor heating. The bedroom is really cosy and the beds are comfortable.
The restaurant has a good atmosphere and offers a good choice of breakfasts and meals.
The hotel is truly grand!

My first ever afternoon tea I was treated by my daughter attended on my birthday today and wow absolutely loved it the grand certainly is grand the staff so polite and professional the grand has certainly set my standards high and we will definitely return for mum n daughter time thank you for making my day extra special with your lovely hotel and staff.

Wow! Totally amazing visit from start to finish with our friends we’d not seen for 2 years. My booking was dealt with promptly and dietary requests were no problem. The atmosphere, service and food were second to none. Staff were very attentive and food superb. We had afternoon tea including gluten free & no fish and the alternatives were fabulous. Everything was fresh and the desserts were too die for. Highly recommend.

Having stayed here a few times before, it didn’t disappoint. The heritage of the building and the location are superb. The staff are so welcoming and attentive. We were a very last minute booking and couldn’t fault one thing about the room we had. York’s hidden gem, a must to stay here if visiting York.

Good for business trip purposes. Very close to the station, clean and well managed. However it felt more like a 4* hotel and I wouldn’t come here for a special occasion. The bathroom is spacious and elegant but as for the bedroom? The mattress wasn’t as comfortable it should be and the decor felt a little muted and dull. The room service is astronomically priced with no vegan option available so I went out for breakfast every morning. Overall I had a pleasant stay but I didn’t feel like my stay lived up to 5* expectations.

Beautiful historic hotel with modern amenities. All staff brilliant and very welcoming. We were able to check in at 11am even though we were expecting just to leave our bags until later. The room was fantastic. Bed extremely comfy and the furnishing superb. Only downside was a garment left by previous occupants hadn't been taken away during changeover, so took the shine off a near perfect welcome. The spa facilities are good but not huge, so can seem busy with only a few people. Location was perfect, with being less than 5 minutes walk to the train station and the City Centre. This stay was a birthday treat and I wouldn't hesitate to treat my self again here in the near future!

Superb hotel that has a nice personal touch. We were upgraded to an executive room which was particularly spacious. View wasn't great, but we were essentially there for a tourist trip. Great location at five minutes brisk walk from the railway station.

This hotel really is beautiful. The room was very large, and the bed super comfortable. The bathroom was huge with good underfloor heating, separate shower and bath and nice touch with multi room speakers. The design of the mini bar is fantastic and the best I've seen. Staff were good… Busy because of racing but no shortage of attention. Concierge was also very helpful and nothing too much trouble. Will be back very soon!

Fantastic first trip to York! The staff were magnificent and very, very helpful. The rooms were immaculate and full of modern features. The hotel was in a great location in walking range to various sites, bars and restaurants. Would definitely visit here again!

It's a beautiful hotel, very clean and very tidy. Everybody we interacted with from start to finish was exceptionally friendly. The spa was lovely and the room was well styled. The only things we found let it down was the cold tap in the bathroom was warm, the internet on the TV didn't work and room service costs £10. We thought it wouldn't cost anything given were in the same building! We'd go again to be fair.

Fantastic hotel. Staff were brilliant and made you feel both welcome and 'executive'. Rooms were spacious and finished to a very high standard. Large TV, large bathroom and very comfortable bed.

Really comfortable rooms with lovely big bathrooms. Wide variety for breakfast and pretty good. The bar and the lounge/bar rooms were very cosy and welcome feeling. Spend a wonderful evening drinking in the whiskey room with some inventive and yummy cocktails. Small but functional gym and spa areas, spa could be adult only as screaming kids in the pool isn't very relaxing. Very worth every penny.

We booked the day before we arrived and everything went smoothly the staff were great and welcoming every need was catered for and the room was amazing! Heated bathroom floor, speakers in the bathroom! Great atmosphere. It's fair to say we will be returning to the grand hotel and spa.

The room we chose was great, a nice layout and everything in the room we could want. We had a rear facing room so not much of a view and we didn't book any time in the spa so can't provide any useful info on the facility. The breakfast was located in a nice restaurant with plenty of options available, we chose the buffet and were both pleased. The staff in and around the building were all friendly and courteous and definitely helped to make our stay pleasurable.

We loved this hotel. Would definitely recommend to anyone and will be staying again. All of the staff were very friendly and the location is fantastic. Just inside the wall near all of the shops.

The Grand Hotel certainly is not a 5 Star Hotel, it recently opened another 120 rooms and it shows in the poor infrastructure, with the room not being prepared for the 3pm book in slot, next day room service was as bad, so we cancelled the maid when she appeared at 3.45pm? Be Prepared to pay £15 for the basic spa facilities, pool and steam room above the nightly room rate! The expected whiskey lounge that boasts 150whiskey selection is no more than a small lounge with a whiskey cabinet, that holds at a guess 25-40 whiskeys… very poor and mis leading marketing! On booking out, we found ourselves jostled about with many other hotel guests wishing to do the same, in the very small entrance lobby which doubles as the reception area. The staff are very helpful and accommodating and could not find fault with the service they provided in the bar and restaurants. Breakfast food and service is very good and prompt. On reflection I would not stop at this hotel again unless the hotel seriously improves it operating standards, which at best are 3star although paying a 5star price tag. You pay for the location if nothing else.

A lovely warm welcome for my birthday. Glass of bubbly on the house. Friendly staff. An excellent room. Really well positioned. Fantastic short break with the hubby. Would recommend and stay again.

Attended a business meeting here. The interior is quite atmospheric in a high Victorian way. The meeting room had a lot character although wasn't all that practical in terms of power points nor acoustics for teleconferencing. Very good catering. A definite step up from the average mundane meeting venue.

Great Hotel as advertised. Staff very Professional and attentive. Excellent rooms, very conveniently located to shops and train station. Would recommend and return to it.

Excellent birthday retreat. Great food, spa day was amazing, really relaxing and as advertised, reception staff were excellent and even loaned me some cuff links as I had forgotten mine. All round 5 star establishment.

The stay in this hotel was good. The hotel has a elevated touch. The rooms are big and comfortable. However during the winter months it could become freezing. The windows were made in the last century.

Fantastic hotel with fantastic staff who were very friendly, efficient and helpful. Great Spa and pool area with very relaxing environment. The room was very spacious and extremely comfortable and exceptionally clean with well considered added extras. The best hotel in York without exception. Will be staying again whenever I am in York.

Had the best weekend, just me and the missus. It was a gift and we stayed in the double executive suite which was amazing. The breakfast in the morning was also very good and the service was second to none.

Top class hotel with excellent service (occasionally over-serviced! ) in fine condition. Decor not to everyone's taste and tapas not the best I've had but still a lovely hotel.

Stayed here for my partners birthday. Arrival services were outstanding. The doorman was so friendly and welcoming. Check in was easy and stress free. However receptionists directions to room were vague but the doorman stepped in and helped us which was fantastic. Room cleanliness was exceptional and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We booked a spa day at this hotel. We had one treatment, which was fine. However, it was clear that, although there were only 8 people or so in the spa area, there were not enough facilities to relax and chill. We completed our massage and asked to be returned to the relaxation room with reclining chairs. On going into the room, there were only about 4 chairs, all of which were occupied. The member of staff immediately took us to alternatives, which were either plastic garden chairs around a plastic table or a sofa in the hallway. We chose the latter. Let me tell you, sitting bolt upright on a sofa in the middle of a hallway is not a good way to finish a relaxing massage. We were under the impression that staff were really adept at this process of relocating the overspill of clientele. What a disgusting way to treat people who had paid a considerable amount of money. We decided to have a drink in the bar following our spa experience. I had a rather mediocre daiquiri in a small glass (£12) and my friend had a mocktail (non-alcoholic, £7). We paid up and received our change from the barman in one of those little leather folders you find in bars and restaurants. The crowning glory to this experience was the bar manager coming across to our table, asking if we wanted any more drinks, and then taking a quick 'flash look' at the bill in the little leather folder. I said "You can take that if you want" meaning that he could keep the change inside as a tip.

Nice hotel, very finely decorated. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. The location is close to the train station and the historic city centre. You can do everything quietly by walking.
The staff were very friendly and the room was very good.

Good central location although possibly expected nicer room which I could at least open a window in.

Yet again a fab stay at the stunning beautiful hotel. Staff amazing, nothing was too much trouble. And the lovely gestures for our wedding anniversary chocolates and champagne — red wine for my husband. Many thanks.

From being met at the entrance of the hotel the level of service was excellent. Our room was first class and I would have no hesitation in making a return visit.

Excellent hotel with excellent service we spent a night during our stay in York at this hotel. From the arrival, everything was just perfect. We were travelling by car, this was taken on arrival at the hotel and parked for us. The check-in was quick and straightforward and our luggage was immediately delivered to our room. For our little son we received 3 minutes after our arrival a bathrobe delivered to the room. The room was nice and large. The bed was wide and extremely comfortable. From the staff we have received an excellent restaurant tip in the city. The morning meal was very good and the buffet served nicely and appetizingly. The check-out was extremely straightforward and our car was waiting for us. Of course, the whole thing has its price (eg. The Valetparking: 25 GBP). But the price was the quality accordingly. We would have stayed longer and would very much like to come back.

A lovely hotel, staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Suite was comfortable and inviting. We did, however, pay a premium for 5 Stars and to be honest, The Grand was somewhat lacking. Buffet food wasn't great quality and was in rather poor supply (even on a relatively quite morning). Smears on the mirrors in the suite, thick dust on the bedside lamps, broken tiles and sealant missing in the bathroom, dirty cups/cafetiere etc. A great place to stay; maybe my standards are to high, however, I expected more.

Service at the spa was pretty good. Breakfast was a bit pricey at £20 for a Full English. Room service doesn't say anywhere that they will charge £5 to bring the food to your door, so watch out for that; I assumed it was included in the extortionate room service prices. That said, I would stay away from the room service food altogether as it's not in line with what you'd expect from a 5 star hotel. Bathroom had heated flooring but it didn't get very warm, in fact, the highest temperature setting would bring the tiles to room temp. All in all, it's a nice hotel and the service was good, but I wouldn't go again. I've stayed at probably fourteen 5 star hotels and this would rank at the bottom of the list.

Earned its 5 stars and more. ALL staff really helpful and knowledgeable. The building and furnishings are all maintained to a very high standard. The public rooms and bedrooms are spacious and luxurious. The food and service is excellent and the hotel is centrally situated.

I attended a manufacturer training day here. The hotel is fantastic, the staff are very friendly and welcoming. I found the food, out of this world, it was delicious. I would recommend this hotel.

This is my favorite hotel ever! I love the food! Afternoon tea just topped it off! Huge rooms! Our first room the heating didnt work quite right, so they gave us A SUITE! That made it the best holiday ever! Huge bathrooms at leats 5 huge rooms! I love it! Best ever!

My wife and I were bought a gift voucher for Afternoon Tea at The Grand and we couldn't have been happier with it. The food was exquisite and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and polite. We took our 6 month old daughter with us and they couldn't have been more accommodating of her. Frankly, this was one of the nicest experiences you could hope for. I can't recommend it enough.

The best hotel in York. 1 minute walk from the Center. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The building is an excellent example of Victorian Gothic architecture with wide corridors and a beautiful stone spiral staircase. We stayed on the Forth floor and the room was very spacious with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on, just remember to turn the Ac down before sleeping as it is rather noisy. Restaurant is quite pricey, visit Rustique 1 minute walk away for good value food. Our visit was for our wedding anniversary and we would definitely go again if visiting York.

Centrally located, with fantastic facilities and very well kitted out rooms. Staff more than happy to help with any needs, wants or desires. A fantastic stay, to be repeated again.

Just returned from another stay at the Grand. An all round great experience so if you want a touch of luxury in a great location then you need to stay here. Don't forget to spend time sampling the extensive bar.

We had a lovely breakfast here today (July '14). I can't eat gluten and was very well looked after. There is a fantastic selection of both continental and hot options and everything looked wonderful. I've given four stars rather than five as our order was given to another table, so two of our meals were delayed and one arrived after the rest of us had finished eating, plus it had the wrong type of eggs! I must say though, they were very apologetic. I would definitely return. The hotel is beautiful and in a great location.

My wife and I have just returned from a truly fantastic weekend at the Cedar Court Hotel, I had spoken to Becky in the bookings team prior to the stay and asked for her recommendation on the rooms available and she came up trumps! a fantastic room, quiet and spacious. We arrived and unloaded the car, which was then taken to be parked, everything was then brought up to the room whilst we enjoyed a fresh coffee and were told about the history of the building which is truly unique. Once refreshed we headed down to dinner, we were running late, but no problem they reserved us a table by the window over looking the York Walls and we then went on to enjoy a lovely meal. After a good nights sleep and breakfast the following morning we were able to enjoy the Spa, again a truly unique setting in the vaults. We left the hotel feeling great and relaxed, ready for the working week/month etc. Having stayed in many hotels I can truly say this is right up with the best, whilst not cheap, it is good value and if it makes you feel special then it's priceless. We are booking again for the end of June and will definitely include the Mad Hatters Tea Party! We done to all the staff who made it such a special stay.

Took my Mum for a Spa day today at the cost of £200 for both of us. We were booked in for two treatments, back neck and shoulder massage and a facial massage. The facilities are wonderful with heated floors, sauna, jacuzzi, pool and aroma room. They also use Espa products which we were very impressed with. When it came to our treatments we were given a choice of oils and then put in a wonderfully warm room. The girls who did our treatments were very professional and made the whole experience so relaxing my mum actually fell asleep! This hotel is in central York, so if you're driving I would recommend the park and ride, for £2.60 return for an adult it is much cheaper than any parking. The hotel is very close to the train station so this is perfect for anyone travelling by train. Would recommend to anyone, wonderful experience from start to finish worth every penny.
