Lovely hotel. The room was very clean and the staff are friendly. We checked in quickly and the cleaners were happy to provide us with extra tea n coffee for our room. There is even a couple of free console games which is a great hit for the kids. It's just a shame the men having a function here have little respect for the young ones playing the game by constantly walking in front of it!

Overall good for a two night stay. Easy walk for central York and the sightseeing bus tour. Room reception and breakfast room clean and nicely decorated. Pool area quite dirty, I think because several guests ignored a small sign stating they should remove out door shoes. Also be aware there is a limit to how many can be in the pool at once so you may need to join a waiting list at reception. Breakfast good but expect to join a waiting list in reception at the busier times.

Stay here as a stop off en route for longer journeys. Just been refurbished and is even nicer than before. Wedding function on this time with signs everywhere to let other guests know that there would be busy periods and a disco until midnight. There was no inconvenience but the signs were very courteous. Didn't hear a thing up on the fourth floor. Walking distance to town, nice leisure pool and great breakfast, comfy bed in quiet, spacious room. Everything you could hope for. We popped out for pizza from Istanbul Grill (you wouldn't expect it but its lovely pizza and homemade coleslaw is delish) and asked for plates at the bar to take up to the room and a couple of beers. Ideal after a long drive to sit back and relax. Only niggle was the TV reception was jumpy. We had our 7 year old in the room who wanted to watch The Voice and the poor reception was pretty tedious. We didn't complain. Had we asked, the hotel staff may well have fixed it for us. We were in room 411, which was ideal.

Hotel is very central, rooms good with comfy beds, pool small but adequate for a quick dip when empty if others. Staff very polite and friendly. Our biggest issue was that we didn’t get much sleep as very noisy neighbours and you could hear everything — tv, going to loo, talking, banging etc and it didn’t stop till gone 12.30pm — be warned — very thin walls and seems to be no code of conduct at night that guests have to stick to. For that reason we wouldn’t stay again sadly.

Very nice rooms, recently refurbished, and really good bed mattress. They have bathrooms for disabled people in some rooms which is good. Our bathroom though was not cleaned very well — the toilet and the bathtub — and there was not much pressure in the shower. Bar constantly open which is quite good as well. Staff is very friendly and polite but not well organized. Breakfast was quite average in taste and variety. Would expect more from a 4 star hotel.

Had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff were welcoming, helpful and lovely — both on the desk and behind the bar. Our room was stunning and very comfortable. Great location for the center too. We will definitely be staying again.

Nice room hotel and reception staff. Unfortunately I got? food poison with a Caesar salad at the restaurant. When I mentioned it to the restaurant staff, they said that no one else had mentioned it. I wasnt asked how I felt or offered an apology, never mind offered a reimbursement for the salad itself.

Nothing particularly special about this place. Was here for Xmas party and was enough space with plenty of pre drinks in foyer. The food looked nice on the menu but wasn't anything amazing, not too bad either. Building was comfortable but not one bit of character. Shout out to the staff though as food was out quickly considering how many people and cleared away well too.

Visited the hotel on business attending a course. The lobby area was clean and well laid out. The staff were lovely and accommodating, the meeting room well maintained and the food was delicious! Will very much consider my next break here!

Lovely hotel, good location and very helpful staff. Really good breakfast (always an important consideration), just wish it had a steam room or sauna or both. Currently being renovated and the renovated rooms look really nice.

Went to attend turtle tots swimming took my 3 month baby and he loved it, it was his first time. The staff at Novotel where very kind and helpful. The pool is good but only 2 changing rooms. But plenty of lockers.

On arrival I went to the Gents toilet and the urinal traps looked shabby along with the laminate below them. There also seemed to be lots of bottles and glasses outside from the night before which hadn't been cleared away. The room was OK but the separate toilet seems old by todays standards. I would prefer one bigger bathroom which included a toilet. The pregnant lady on reception was extremely pleasant and the pool was a nice facility to use with my children. The reception area and dining facilities were very good.

Stayed for 2 nights family room and very impressed. Reception area and bar very modern, service excellent. All the staff were very polite and professional always happy to help and service with a smile. Food excellent. We ordered late one evening and just wanted snacks. As the restaurant was busy and we had to wait for a table we were offered complimentary drinks. Breakfast very impressive good selection and very good coffee. Lots of gadgets for tbe children to play with and the pool fantastic. We have not stayed here before but with its easy access to the attractions definitely would stay here again and recommend to family and friends.

My room was quite nice for the price with a safe and a refrigerator. The location of the hotel was within easy walking distance of York's major attractions and just around the corner from a city bus stop. The continental breakfast was quite good and the hotel's restaurant even better. I liked the staff quite a lot. They were very helpful and friendly. If I would change anything I would make vending machines available for the guests as well as laundry facilities such as washers and dryers.

We enjoyed the very comfortable beds — and the way the sofa bed opens up to have two individual beds is brilliant too. Kids got a free toy which is a lovely touch. The kids play area was really good even though our kids were older. Breakfast was great and the staff there were so friendly. Pool was good to have although small. On the downsides — there were limited amenities in the room (such as no shower cap or body lotion) and the welcome when we arrived could have been friendlier. We had a very disturbed night with the wind whistling through the window one night but it was a very windy night. But overall we would highly recommend this place to others.

Spacious, clean accommodation. Very comfortable bed and quiet room as requested. Enjoyed use of the pool which was clean and had it to ourselves. Breakfast and evening meals in the restaurant were excellent and great value for money. Every member of staff we met in the hotel was friendly and helpful. Had a wonderful stay and couldn't fault the hotel. Will definitely return and recommend to friends and family.

Check in was excellent and friendly. Rooms were comfortable. The location is good and handy for the town centre. Negative point was having to pay for parking, this should be free for guests. Hotel didn't change since my last visit six years ago and I just felt it could do with some updating.

A very pleasant stay. It was lovely to spread out in the queen size bed and relax in the evening on the sofa. I couldn't get the AC to bring the temperature up to that desired so gave up with it by the second day (I could have mentioned this to reception). I asked for a view which I had with great delight. I was able to use the pool on my last day after checking out which was very much appreciated as I needed the exercise after the long week's work.

Excellent nights stay. Only booked a couple of days ago. £70 for a big double room, dog friendly. Superb desk staff. A hotel manager with a sense of humour and a great welcome. Nice pool, well stocked bar (gin menu). Brilliantly located for all York has to offer, on site parking, we were given two complimentary drinks at the bar, bar is 24 hours. Highly recommended. Ricardo and Kae two of the nicest front of house staff you could meet. Will definitely be back.

The Hotel is well sighted in the city of York easy walk to the centre of the city, but would, benefit from better signage. The reception area is pleasant with lots of comfortable seating, however, a few more staff on duty could avoid customers having to stand in line for both booking in and out and waiting quite a long time for bar service. The room we had was fine, clean, spacious and adequate for our over night stay,. The separate toilet was different. I found getting a shower a little challenging as the bath sides were high to climb over. Sorry to be a bit picky but we both could getting dried on the towels, as they seemed to be new, difficult. Breakfast was delicious, many choices, cooked well, lots of it, constantly replenished. Never used the pool, but it looked fine. The staff, where friendly and helpful just in short supply at times. Would definitely stay here again.

Check in slightly disappointing as I had included message on my booking form some weeks ago asking for possible early check in at 2 as I was going racing. Arrived after 2 but room not ready and a delay before I got my keys. Room lovely with ample space and usual comforts of safe, spotless toilet/bathroom and also a river view. Only had one breakfast but it was good standard and staff were pleasant. Surprised at lack of atmosphere given race week but didn't bother me.

The hotel is in a good location just a short walk from York Centre. The hotel itself is clean and the rooms are very smart. Breakfast was included within our package and the choice of food was very wide. Also the restaurant is set out well so you have plenty of room. Staff were very helpful. We were only booked in for 1 night but would definitely come back if staying in York again.

Had a great time at Novotel, visited with my boyfriend for two nights at the end of August. In general had a fantastic time, staff were helpful and accommodating, and the room was clean and had everything we needed. Breakfast was great. I feel the bath should've had rails either side and non slip bath mats should've been provided as standard. Apart from that no issues at all, will be returning.

Very positive. We were warmly welcomed by Joanne who was helpful and efficient. The restaurant staff and Mario the chef were understanding of the needs of our 8 yo grandson. The buffet dinner was good. Breakfasts set us up for the day. The bedroom was good sized well equipped and comfortable.

The hotel is convenient to reach from the train station (5 minutes by taxi). The staff are friendly and helpful (especially in the restaurant). Great and varied breakfast. Comfortable beds. The rooms are equipped with iron, kettle and tea. I recommend it.

Nice hotel, clean and modern. The breakfast leaves a bit to be desired compared to choice. Although I am generally satisfied, I had a bad experience related to security: When I returned to my room I found the door open. Nothing was stolen, but luckily I had brought with me valuables.
Update. At the end of my stay I have credited 2 times the cost of the room. I sent 2 emails, called on the phone, they told me they would let me know but still no response. Really unqualified behavior.

An honest review would be the following. Prime location for local venues and shopping but still closed off enough to be peaceful enough at night. Hotel reception, breakfast area and restaurant very well kept with a calm contemporary feel. Excellent range of facilities including free Wi-Fi and communal gaming consoles. Range of food available for breakfast was excellent and the service even better, staff are very attentive and nothing is too much bother. Only criticism of my stay is I felt that within the room we had, the decor was somewhat dated and could have done with a fresh lick of paint, also the layout wasn't the best I've experienced but by no means should you let this put you off staying there, this was not my first stay and I will likely return as I have before.

My first impression was that this hotel was five star. I then went up to my room and I saw that is was about three stars. It was hygienic but it was small and cramped. Downstairs is where a lot of money was spent. It is largely family orientated. There is an Xbox Kinect and a Wii, There also are computers to use for free if you need to. The Wi-Fi was superfast, all the staff were friendly the pool was clean and the dinner was delicious! Would definitely recommend that you stay here as its great and fairly cheap.

Really lovely space and drinks at reasonable prices. Only gripe is that function rooms were on the small side.

I had an excellent experience at this hotel. I attended a training day and presentation here and it was a very comfortable place to spend an extended period of time. All areas of service I experienced were very professional and friendly and they accommodated all the needs of the company very well, hence why it is the venue chosen regularly for this area by our company for events.

I was there, excellent place, qualified staff, but above all a great kitchen with very high level staff.

The reception area and bar is very nice and modern however the room I stayed in could do with some refurbishment. All of the staff were excellent and friendly. Free Wi-Fi that actually works throughout the hotel is great too.

I stayed there in September 2015 for the second time. The first time was two years earlier. Staff was very friendly and helpful. My visit at the bar in the evening was also very pleasant. I like the location with the nice walk through the park to the city center. The terrace in the back by the river is quite nice, too. Parking is great when traveling by car; no problem using the car whenever you need and always getting a space when coming back. Only critic is the variety of the breakfast buffet regarding e. G. Cheese and other dairy products. But this is typical for the UK and seen from a German perspective…

Novotel is usually a safe bet and this time was no different. Rooms are basic but work just fine. Good breakfast for a small fee. This hotel was nice as it is on a canal which you can sit next to in comfortable seating or take a walk.

Room and facilities good but let down bathe restaurant: poor service, poor quality making it poor value — walk 5 mins to any number of better eating venues.

I have just come back from an overnight stay at this hotel. I was quite impressed by the room. Very spacious, well furnished. Clean with double bed, sofa, desk with lamp, coffee making facilities for those who like 'real coffee' and for those of us who like instant! Small fridge with bottle of still and sparkling water, a room safe. Closet with extra pillow and two bathrobes. Bathroom well stocked with toiletries, with shower over bath but actual toilet in small room next door. Not hygenic in my opinion, would benefit from a hand basin in there as well. Situated on the banks of a canal there was a pleasant area for relaxing outdoors and an indoor swimming pool. Staying there on the eve of the hottest day so far, I was disappointed to find out that the air-conditioning was due to be switched on until later this month, or even next month, consequently I found the room stifling hot during the humid night, and had little sleep. £99.00 for one night then continental breakfast £13.50 extra — plenty of choice.

This hotel is very good. Staff are very helpful and friendly, been to stay at this hotel quite a few times over the last couple of years. Breakfast is good and has good choice even when we have a meal in the restaurant in the evenings the meals are fresh and well cooked. We were there at the weekend and enjoyed our stay and the room was nice and clean and ready when we arrived. It's worth 5 stars.

Overpriced budget hotel although it was rated 4 *. Breakfast vastly overpriced a better breakfast can be had at Wetherspoons a few minutes walk away for £ 2.99.

The hotel was ok. The location was good. However the service was bad. Our room wasn't made up despite of leaving the clean up sign when we complained they said that it was too late to clean our room and argued with us.

Called to book a room for a function in May spoke to a lady in the bookings and was quoted £338.00 this was for three nights B and B date 6th of Jan called on the 20th to book the price had gone up by £10? not a big deal I explained that I would be using all the hotel facilities and spending lots of money so I asked if they would honer the quoted Rate. I was told no? so I asked to speak to her manager I explained I had been quoted a price and now it had gone up etc but I would be spending lots in the hotel etc She then accused me of threatening her I said how am I threatening her by asking her to honer the quoted price she just said I was threatening her by asking for my quoted price she just said again don't threaten me? I did not threaten her in any way I was only trying to get the quoted price. I emailed and complained about the way she had spoken to me it was very unprofessional in every way plus very rood. Needless to say I will not be staying at this hotel or attending the function as I feel then hotel and staff are very unprofessional in not replying to my complaint and if this is the best they can do I would not recommend them to anyone. Visited friends stopping here. Called in for drinks. Was a pleasant hotel.

Pros: Friendly staff. Wii and Xbox360 in lobby. Great location. Pool. Safe in room. Second room on forth floor facing river was much better. Cons: First room was very ropey and very tired looking. No air conditioning in any of the rooms. Expensive internet. Lack of space in wardrobe. Cleanliness of rooms in certain areas. The staff in the Novotel York are so friendly and accommodating, nothing seems to be too much for them, even when we asked to change room. On arrival we were asked by the receptionist if we were sightseeing and we were so she (Anna or Anne I think) gave us a map and showed us where the best sites were and where the best restaurants were. I thought the map and the advice was a nice touch. An Xbox 360 and a Wii in the lobby was something I wasn't expecting but a great addition for kids and adults alike. 100 pin bowling on Wii Sports after breakfast is so cool. Location location location as they say and this hotel has a good location. The hotel is located right next to the river with in ten minutes walking distance of the town centre. I didn't use the pool myself but my girlfriend liked it. I did notice that it can get very busy with families at peak times. A safe is something every hotel room should have and our room had a standard laptop safe. Judging by the size of the safe it should be able to take a laptop with 17" screen.

Over priced for a very basic room. Food was very good but again over priced.

Myself, husband, son and 2 dogs stayed for 1 night during half-term Staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a lovely riverside walk at the back of the Hotel which was great for the dogs. An excellent location for sightseeing in York. This was the first time we had taken the dogs to a Hotel and would certainly return there.

Booked my spritely mum (73) a 1 night respite break whilst I looked after dad. She described the room as above and this was a "smokers" room!. Bathroom "so clean I had a bath", rather than a shower (this must make it super-clean, as mum travels with antibacterial wipes! ) Staff v. Friendly, helpful. Room service dinner (£9.50) "really very nice" and delivered on time to the minute. Breakfast — "great choice, hot, and v. G. Value £12". A wonderful break on 30 March.
