Spacious room with usual facilities. Staff very friendly and helpful. Had a lovely meal in the restaurant, good selection on the menu. 3 miles from York city centre but park and ride close by. Lift was out of order, toilet handle was loose needs fixing, and water mark on ceiling from previous leak needs painting over so 4 stars given. Would have given 5 stars had there not been these issues. I would be happy to stay again however.

Stayed on business with some colleagues for a conference in the hotel the next day. The hotel seemed "tired" and in need of TLC. One of my colleagues came down with a chair which had collapsed when he sat on it. The staff in the bar area were good. The next day we pretty much had to set the room up ourselves for the conference, putting out pens and paper ourselves. We noticed we had been given plastic cups so we asked for glasses, one of which had a severe crack in it. We had to keep asking for the tea and coffee to be refilled as well. This was not a very good experience unfortunately. Perhaps if the hotel is given an extensive refurbishment it may improve.

Mini bath. Unfreditle reception. Hardly a chance to air the room. 1 towel for 2 people. From the outside, good impression. But the inside can be forgotten.

Prefer the authentic rooms of the hotel, that the rooms on the ground floor.

We had bed breakfast and dinner. The dinner was the best thing, well priced and very delicious from the soups to the main courses and desserts. Service was excellent too. The room was okay. The problem was our room had a door connecting to the next door room which made the sound proofing very bad and we could hear almost all the neighbours' conversations. Thankfully they were not in or talking much so we didn't hear them most of the time. The floor boards in the corridors were squeaky, and our toilet lock didn't work. The location is good for a short drive to York centre, and is in a quiet village/town of its own, with a little grassland just outside to sit in the sun.

Stayed here for a weekend and although the accommodation was satisfactory we found the staff on Reception were not very helpful at all. We asked about breakfast and were told we could only have a cooked breakfast if we ordered it the night before and there was no other choice or room service available! Really in a 4 star hotel? Also coffee or tea facilities in the room were very poor and we had to ask at Reception for refills. So we had our breakfast in York and ate out for our evening meal which was altogether not good enough, we won't be going back.

Excellent although only a one night stay. Check in staff pleasant and informative, clean and lovely room with super bathroom. Dined in evening off International menu excellent food and service, nice bar area think drinks were a little overpriced but not expensive. … will definitely use again if in area…

No gym. But good running routes along the river. Stunning walks. Tea & coffee in the room & trouser press. Basic toiletries provided. Meeting rooms. Good food in the restaurant. Not quite enough chairs in the bar when it's busy. Nice staff.

My wife and I attended the annual dinner for the York Magic circle here. To sum up in one word — FAULTLESS! I was impressed with the first sight of the entrance. The whole place was of a high, clean standard and the staff were very good. The meal was perfect. There were 70 in attendance who all had a 3 course meal with coffee to follow. I believe everyone was delighted with the food. The room we had was perfect. I can't fault it. My wife and I are in the business and probably more than most people we notice the attention to detail and can see fault where others miss. Again, FAULTLESS! Well done to the management and their team.

Stayed as overnight guest, ample parking, room comfortable and clean if a little dated, no leisure facilities on site but the friendly and helpful staff gave me a pass to the roko gym down the road which was excellent. Over well priced, would definitely stay again. Well done.

Nice building, and comfortable stay, but some aspects are showing their age here. Worth a look if you can find an offer on a room, not sure it would be worth a full price room.

Nice hotel if a little bit dated, even so the rooms were clean an comfy. In a lovely location would be nice to go for walks in surrounding country side. Breakfast was over priced would not pay for it again.

Comfortable beds and good room facilities. Didn't find coffee/tea making in the room but room service is available. Bar and restaurant for evenings entertainment vut I didn't get a chance to try them out. Plenty of options for breakfast, cereals, cooked, pastries and fruit. All in all would stay again.

Location is ideally situated near a park and ride facility into the centre of York. The hotel is smart, clean and staff are friendly. Rooms are average for a 4*hotel but comfortable. The food is lovely and the chef excels making this hotel worth its 4*. Service is great too!

Although outdated. This hotel had all of the basics needed to give me and my husband the perfect relaxing childfree anniversary we needed. Food is outstanding! Massive choice at breakfast and the staff were very attentive to our needs. Would stay again!

Room was clean and warm. Staff were friendly. Parking was easy. 3 course meal was delicious. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was awesome (especially the black pudding). Check out was easy. Would definately visit again.

A comfortable hotel for celebrating Xmas with family and friends. All looks very nice with plenty of free coffee and mince pies. The dinners and buffet have been good and always piping hot. There are river walks to be had and your not too far from York. The hotel does need to put on more entertainment though, maybe a live act in the evening would be nice. The front of the hotel needs modernising I think but the carpark is a good size.

It's ok. Menu is limited. Seating area in the main bar could do with more tables and chairs. Drinks are very expensive. Rooms are comfortable. Staff are great. Overall it could do with a bit of TLC. Phone reception is bad but I think that's the area not the hotel. And they advertise free Wi-Fi but I could not get it.

Lovely hotel, location a short walk from park and ride (went out for full day/evening so didn't want to drive), full of choices at breakfast. Room very nice, comfy bed.

Absolutely top class. The staff were friendly and efficient, the food was to a great standard and the room was a good size and comfy. Would use again.

Very nice location and a helpful and friendly staff. Clean and comfortable rooms. However, the food was not good. The evening meal was very poor. Not of good quality. Pate, a bland slab served without bread or toast Pork "loin". Tough and inedible. This was a comment made by other diners at my table. Breakfast, once more, the cooked breakfast was tepid. Again though, staff were good. So, four stars for location, rooms and staff, but well pulled down by bad catering.

Well placed on bus routes and near to Park and ride into York. Pleasant surrounds, good facilities and helpful and cheerful staff. My only problem was a very hard mattress, which wasn't resolved during the three night stay. The food was good and dietary needs catered for.

Didn't have breakfast ready when I came down. No amenities. I had a drink voucher but it didn't cover barely any brands. No phone charger in the room. No pool. And it took a while to get some one to wait on me.

Stayed here while on a training course. Great hotel and service. The rooms have tea and coffee facilities also a hair dryer, storage for clothing and a trouser press. The rooms are attended to daily. And the bed's are spacious and comfortable. No local amenities. If you need a taxi this is best if you book the day before. Good selection on the morning breakfast buffet. This hotel is disable friendly and also has meeting rooms and ideal for Weddings. I enjoyed my 3 day stay. Regards.

Nice room, lovely food in the restaurant. Only gripe was no iron/ironing board in the room. Other guests had them so I was unable to use one during my stay. Bit disappointing for a large chain.

We attended the recent 80's event night. Everything was to the high standards you would expect. Good food, excellent service from friendly staff and a brilliant live 80's tribute duo. Recommended!

Pros Easy to find, free car park, quiet, warm, not too far from shops/restaurants. Breakfast is spot on Cons Old styling (not my thing), food is ok, half of the lights in my room didn't work.

Wine tasting with Pieroth. Nice place. Staff lovely. The event room needs some maintenance, but nothing drastic. Will go again.

Clean hotel, pretty grounds. Didn't eat any meals as £11 is a bit much for breakfast. Also didn't use the bar as other reviews say it is extortionate. Beds very comfy and TV in every room. If you get a room near the road you won't be able to sleep with the window open. Enjoyed our stay.

We had a superior room with a lounge area, ensuite spa bath and large double bed. We were very happy with our stay!

Facilities were excellent, service of Mercure staff very good. Plenty of tea and coffee available, and nice lunch. Struggled with Wi-Fi for some of the presentations.

Attended an awards ceremony for work here. Facilities very nice and refreshments provided.

Dated room I have the worst TV I have ever seen in my room, I just want to change from BBC to ITV and it stays on a blue screen. Lol.

My wife and I were expecting the worst based on the previous reviews — we couldnt have been more pleased, with very friendly accommodating staff and none of the experiences of the previous poor/very poor reviews. What does that say about reviews.

The room was not ready on arrival, all though, booked and paid for in advance. Unfriendly and un helpful staff.

Disgusting behaviour from this hotel. At 11am on the day of check-in they called to inform us they were cancelling our (pre-paid) booking. Staff were rude when we arrived, and it became obvious that the hotel had bounced us and at least 7 other guests in order to take a coach in. Utterly unprofessional, no compensation offered (Best Western was thoroughly embarrassed on their behalf).

No elevator for my luggage! No good service.

Very nice room upon arrival. Not great when you want a shower at peak time — barely any hot water and very bad pressure. The staff were friendly also.

We wouldn't stay here again. Poor service, room booked not available when we arrived. Had to track down reception staff on arrival. Alternative room dirty. Scalding hot water in shower. Hoovering at midnight! outside bedroom. When it was Fairfield Sanatorium there was probably better service.
