Room 18, very tired, a treck to get to it, no heating on, bed seen better days, decor ancient. In need of a serious re-furb. Staff and food 10 outa 10

Fab pub, great food and very friendly staff. Good choice of drinks and is dog friendly. We couldn't fault it and would highly recommend this pub.

Really honest well executed food. Nice environment, felt traditional yet modern. The menu was sufficient to find something anyone should like. The portions were plenty, more than plenty in fact. Beer was good and the gin selection superb.

Very nice pub and restaurant. Good range of local beers and gins. Clean and comfortable. The food is excellent but expensive IMHO. You can get meals within a few miles 4/5 quid cheaper.

The whole experience from booking to checking out has been brilliant, the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, food delicious, breakfast menu very good. We booked a standard room, this was situated in separate building overlooking a lovely garden area, the room was very clean, welcoming and comfortable, tea/coffee facilities in the room, bathroom very clean and lovely size, Maggie our Jack Russel was made to feel welcome, if you book with a dog it’s an extra £15. My only problem was with the tea bags… Tetley, I’m a Yorkshire Tea drinker I like a strong brew lol, I will book again in the future, I’ll just bring my own tea bags lol.

I recently visited as part of a Christmas Party group for work. We had not arrived very long before we were asked abruptly to hurry up to the restaurant as the chef was 'champing at the bit that our dinner would be spoiled, we were all just enjoying a lovely chat. On arriving in the restaurant we were sat a two separate tables, which was a shame as the layout easily allowed for us to sit together. My Starter was delicious, the nicest soup I have tasted in a while, but the Turkey main and Santa's Trifle were mediocre to say the least. The trifle had barely any custard, squirty cream and tinned strawberries. Very disappointing.

I had a fantastic meal at a reasonable price. It was perfectly cooked and I would recommend it to anyone.

Had the most perfect weekend spotlessly clean and food to die for. Attention to detail and staff could not be any better. Would recommend the George & Dragon to everyone you will not be disappointed. Score 12 out of 10.

Very cozy pub, friendly staff and great food. Great jumping off point for walks and sights in the local area.

A lovely country pub. Friendly helpful staff, and the hot food smelled good, although we just had sandwiches sitting outside on their front lawn, which were pretty decent. They've got a good range of beers, and rooms upstairs (including one dog-friendly one) — intend to stay there next time we're in the area.

We stay a lot and love it. Last time was a disappointment as the superior room was not worth the money we paid. Definitely recommend the george and dragon but not the superior room.

Stayed here last night ready to go to Flamingo Land today as it wasn't far away. Had an evening meal there last night and I must say we couldn't fault it and same with the breakfast this morning. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a family room which was very spacious with ample room but if there was a negative I would say that the decor needs updating and modernising as it was very dated.

Second visit. Gets better each time. Great suite. Lovely food and brilliant friendly staff.

Lovely hotel/pub. Main rooms being in the building behind the pub means they're quiet and comfortable away from pub/resto and road.

I thoroughly enjoyed the overnight stay with breakfast and evening meal which was a competition prize. A friendly welcome from fantastic staff, a cosy atmosphere and great food. We stayed in a wonderful superior room that had lots of space and character in the converted cornmill which has kept key period features such as the beamed ceiling and hearth. Our evening meal was locally sourced gastro pub at its best with a highlight being the haggis, bacon and black pudding stack with peppercorn sauce. We followed our meal with a few drinks in the cosy public bar, seats by the open fire go quick! There is a great choice of after dinner whisky's, draught beers and wine to suit all tastes and the staff are relaxed and companionable. Breakfast before check out was another feast a freshly cooked full English or plenty of alternatives such as smoked salmon and scrambled egg. This was my 2nd trip to the George and Dragon and I will certainly be back again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Recently visited the area on business and stayed here. The room was basic but had everything I needed. The food is what really impressed, I had the George and Dragon burger which was delicious. I would stay again.

Sue and Peter from Teesside. We have just spent two nights this week, 17th and 18th November 2014. At your Hotel. We managed to secure ourselves an excellent deal for the length of our stay, we also had our evening meals. We are both delighted with our time spent at the hotel, The food was excellent, and the service also by the staff was also of a high standard. We would highly recommend to anybody as a great location.

Typical London pub. Quality and courtesy. Beer of course. Copper Dragon Council a bitter!

Great stay, lots seems to have been recently refurbished. The bar area was all changed since I was last there in 2010. My room was 'oldie worldy' but still had everything I needed a brand new bathroom and good FREE Wi-Fi conection… cant complain! Food was much much better than average owner said a full restaurant refurb is planned for March 2011… I will use again and would recommend.

Lovely hotel. Accommodation is really nice and restaurant is fantastic. Pub area is tired and not so impressive, but as we were only there for one night and used the restaurant, it was perfect. Young staff are amazing — competent, polite and friendly. Landlord should do all s/he can to hold onto them.
