Good food and very pleasant staff.

Just had a great meal here with family. Even though it was very busy staff were great, food was fantastic and atmosphere very good. Scallops were a great starter although I was a little disappointed that there only two on the plate. However, the large helpings of black pudding and crispy belly pork helped to soften the blow a little. The ribeye steak I had was cooked to perfection, as was my wife and daughters lasagne. I would definitely recommend this restaurant / pub for a good quality meal either as a couple or as a family.

Visited earlier tonight and as always the food was lovely, and couldn’t fault the staff, very helpful and friendly. The lasagne is sooo good 🤤Would definitely recommend, food and staff are always fab every time I’ve visited! Well done.

Sorry for the language but absolutely fanfuckintastic 😍 Came in around 12.30 and had a couple pints and the fillet steak which was tremendous Popped away and came back around 17.00ish and had another few pints and the chicken wings… absolutely bangin From Edinburgh to South Cave I've never been in a better place P. S whoever chucked in the cucumber with (white sauce you normally get with Indians) I wanna say riatta sauce is an absolute chef Brilliant scran and good bevy… plus the party at Hogmanay was class to.

Great spot for a New Year’s Eve drink. Good atmosphere, good service, good selection of drinks! Will be back in 2022

Some of the best fish and chips in the area and brilliant staff. Enjoyed every minute of our visit. A 5 ☆ restaurant pub.

Visited on Sunday 5th September with a friend and we both left very impressed! We had the roast chicken dinner. Could not fault the portion sizes or the quality! Very yummy indeed :) really loved the cozy interiors and the toilets were vey clean (although no mirror in the gents toilet, how was your suppose to check I had no greens stuck between my teeth 😂 😂 😂) I’ll be sure to pop in again on my next visit over the bridge :)

The rooms were fab, well designed and spacious also at a reasonable price. The evening atmosphere was brilliant and cosy in the outdoor area with heat lamps and fairy lights. The starter was lovely however the main was disappointing I ordered crispy belly pork which came out gooey as appose to crispy to be told they can cook it again but it will be the same and that I am uneducated in the cut of meat. However the meat was advertised as crispy. I then ordered a steak and had to wait a further 30mins while everyone else on our party had eaten. By the time I finished eating they closed the kitchen and the chefs left so we wasn't offered the option of desert which too was disappointing. The steak was okay when eventually arrived however its not somthing I would normally order he just said it was the quickest meal they could make. I would absolutely recommend the rooms to stay however may just have drinks there in future.

The food was first class and all the staff were brilliant, very friendly and helpful, a young girl behind the bar even made us a strawberry daiquiri that wasn't on the drinks list and it was awesome. Many thanks for making an overnight stay very memorable.

The Fox & Coney have tried so hard to keep things coVid safe. We have enjoyed several visits for drinks, meals, both booked snd drop in and skyways felt well looked after and safe. Good luck for the next month — we will definitely be back ❤️ kept safe all.

Not knowing the area, we stopped to have lunch. Very glad we did. Great and friendly welcome. Staff couldn’t be more efficient or friendly. I had a Doorstop sandwich… let me tell you that when they say doorstep, they really mean it! Delicious brown bread, good cheddar and pickle. Such a huge sandwich that I asked for them to wrap up one half which I will have for tea. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his fish and Hull patty. We had coffee to finish off. Now I love my coffees so can be a bit critical but the cappuccino was absolutely delicious, very good coffee and the milk steamed to perfection! ☕️
Would I recommend? Absolutely yes. Hope you do go to the Fox and Coney, you will enjoy your experience.

Popped in for a drink but ended up having the chicken wings and they were absolutely delicious! Definitely going to book for a meal!

Birthday meal for 5, 3 of us had starters all delicious, Chicken Wings were fantastic. All 5 main courses were well cooked and presented — fish & chips massive. I had a 16oz Rump Steak of the specials board that was amazing a cooked to the perfect medium rare. Should of eaten here before when friends recommended, I now know what we have been missing — will definetly be back. Great service from the front of house team as well looked after us perfectly.

Lovely atmosphere & setting. Good choice of food dishes at reasonable prices for the quality. Good to see a section dedicated to pub drinking only if you don't require food. Would recommend booking if eating especially on a weekend evening.

Lovely surroundings. Cosy restaurant. Best rump steak I've ever tasted! Great portion size and reasonable pricing. Will be back.

The food was really good the staff were very friendly and helpful and the pub itself was spacious and clean. Really enjoyed our time there will definitely be going again.

I went here for a drink and dinner with my Mum during a visit. I loved the environment, beer (although could do with a broader selection) and the food was excellent. The staff service was very very good and I would definitely return for food or drinks. I was particularly pleased that the chef decided not to serve some food as he wasn't happy with the quality of the ingredients delivered that day. Shows standards!

Fantastic food. Had the lamb curry which was a mild heat. Meat fell right off the bone. Clean facilities and friendly staff.

Nice pub in South cave. Must have had a recent refit. Food was good, service not so. Good selection of beer. More friendly next time may get you a 5 next time.

Perfect — I had the fish n chips which I would rate as possibly the best I have ever had! My wife had lasagne which she tells me was delicious! I would recommend the Fox n Coney highly!

Good food and drinks modern English pub style, very nice personnel with good experience in food and beers. I would recommend a visit when in the area. 4, 5 stars in the pub scale.

First visit for many years. Used to be very good. I hàd steak pudding which was very nice and my wife had fish pie. Both these were very nice but the whole experience was spoilt by the rest of the main. I had a few over done chips and some peas in pods (about 3) my wife had nothing except the same peas and a bit of what looked lke kale. Would not go back soon.

Great pub serving good food although not a huge choice — which is maybe not a bad thing so they can concentrate on quality. Prices are a bit on the high side for a village pup but as they seem to have no competition I can understand this. Clearly very popular. We were there lunch time on Tues. 2nd Jan 2018 and nearly all the tables were occupied. Recommended.

Food was excellent, service was average to poor but a busier than expected post Christmas lunch sitting and loads of staff off sick can't of helped. Would definitely go back though.

I’d heard how good the food was so we called in for Sunday Lunch. We both decided to have the beef, one medium rare the other well done. No complaints there. I enquired as to what the vegetables were. “Brocolli, cauliflower, kale and carrots” came the reply.
Can I have the well done one with no brocolli please? The waitress then returned and told me that there was no cauliflower left and there would be sprouts instead. “That’s fine” I said.
When the meals arrived there was no brocolli on either and the sprouts amounted to one small one on each plate.
We asked for some salt which was coarse sea salt when it arrived. Not the ideal salt to put on a meal.

Go for the local beer from Brough — Red Fox is excellent — and for some quality pub grub. Very helpful staff — Cosy and friendly on a cold winters night.

This place changed ownership and has been refurbished recently. 12 of us ate here on Friday night, the place was warm and welcoming, the food (and ale) was very good. Several of us ordered the steak and they were all perfectly cooked. Will definitely be visiting again.

A cold winter's day, warming fire, good pint of ale, good food. Can't be beaten. Called in for lunch, sat by the fire. I had home made fish finger sandwich with the freshest white crusty bread. My wife had garlic mushrooms on toasted sourdough. Both excellent. Really good ale. Memorable!

Had a lovely meal at the newly refurbished Fox, great to see the place looking good again, with lovely food and staff. My parents thought it was a bit loud in the restaurant but I thought it was ok, might be very loud in there if the bar was full though! We had a some lovely 'nibbles' as a starter, the whitebait in particular was great, light and not at all greasy. Then fish and chips, and lamb shanks, both enjoyed by everyone. Great midweek meal out, thanks!

Best Sunday Dinner in town, meat cooked to perfection and not a bite left on anyone's plate meanwhile I went for the home made lasagna & for someone who is very particular about a good lasagna this was excellent. Another outstanding dining experience had by all, the polite and attentive staff and beautiful setting has made it my new favourite place, we will be back very soon, huge well done to the new management, smashing job on getting this gorgeous pub up and running.

We went last night on it's second day open. The pub has a lovely ambiance and is very nicely decorated, elegant yet cozy. Those of us who had the lamb shank curry agreed it looked flavourful but was bland tasting, I had to add salt to the lamb and the Bombay potatoes, which I very rarely, if ever, do for restaurant food. In fact, I can't remember the last time I did, aside from chips, of course. Would be great if it had some spice. The mixed grill was really good. I was between giving 3 and 4 stars. 3 for food, 4 for the atmosphere. The staff were pleasant and friendly.

Everything was so awful lot. I say never again! It was truly unique in away no one should experience. The beds were damp and hard. And for £7 per head the food was awful there was hardly any of it and the food which was there was dry. A few things would insure a better stay.

My husband and I had a wonderful time here and want to say a massive 'thank you' to the chefs and staff at the Fox & Coney for the best meal and service that anyone could wish for! The Valentine's Menu food was superb, the wine was flowing and the music by the lovely Mike Rogers was perfect! I cannot recommend the pub highly enough for every detail being just right! The atmosphere, the food and the service — great! People — go there!

Appalling experience from start to finish — we had to wait one and a half hours for our starters to arrive. When they finally arrived they were dismal. The main courses were even worse — three of the five mains were inedible and were returned to the kitchen. Our complaints were ignored by management until we were leaving and we finally received an apology. Don't know if it was a bad day but we would never eat there again. Very disappointing and a waste of our time.

We ate in the pub, food good. It was snowing outside and the pub had no heating, fire should have been lit. The decor and upholstery in urgent need of refurb. Not as good as we expected.
