Great evening meal with wonderful friends served by super staff with an amazingly warm atmosphere!

Dog friendly, great food and the staff were lovely. Large garden with lots of seating and fresh water for dogs. Selection of local ales which were most pleasant👍

Today was our first visit to the Blackboys since the middle of last December. The food was as good as ever, and we were made very welcome by all the staff. Great taste, good value and fantastic service! What more could you ask for after months of isolation? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you’re a vegetarian I doubt you’ll encounter a better nut roast. Friendly service (if a little bit slow between being given and ordering desert menus) no room left in the restaurant but we were accommodated comfortably in the bar. Cost was about what you’d expect. Well worth a visit.

Stylish, great selection of drinks, really good food, good value for what you get, friendly staff, lovely sun trap garden, nice setting.

After being a regular watering hole, we moved from the area. Return visits have seen a slow decline in attentive service and top cuisine. They seriously need to sharpen up their act. It’s not what is was and probably take no notice of constructive criticism.

Lovely food and service on a sunny day. The barman volunteered a small portion of fish and chips for my mother. She loved it.

They have my favourite gin, so this alone makes it a great pub! Loads of seating, whether you choose to be outside, inside, or a bit of both.

12 of us had a birthday meal there recently in the "private" dining area. Loved it. Staff very charming and helpful and food was really delicious. Very pretty setting too.

This was our first visit and certainly won't be our last. It is in an amazing setting with beautiful gardens and a cosy interior. We were made to feel very welcome. The staff were very polite and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Our food was outstanding and good value. Can't wait to visit again to try more of the menu. Can highly recommend the Gambas Pil Pil, Moules Mariniere & Monkfish + Tiger Prawn Curry.

Always the best food! And the staff are lovely they will go above and beyond for special occasions and the pub is just beautiful. Always come here for special occasions and are never disappointed. Love it.

Accommodation is amazing, absolutely Ist class. Food was gorgeous, although there can be a long wait during busy periods. Lots of parking and beautiful surroundings, perfect for long walks.

Unquestionably a glorious country inn with an exemplary ambience. Service warm and attentive, waitress not afraid to go check her facts about some dishes. Chicken and belly pork mains proved solid pub fare, generous portions and competent cooking, though being served in bowls helped neither dish. For everything up to this point: 4 stars. However, the chef had a mental aberration with a starter described as “watermelon gazpacho with asparagus, pea shoot and asparagus salad” (…double dosing the seasonal asparagus? ). To begin with, the texture of the puddle of tepid red liquid was nothing remotely like a true gazpacho, but much more like diluted watermelon juice. In the middle of this small pool was plonked a small heap of undressed salad, topped with Parmesan shavings, which the chef added “for texture”. At no point did this combination coalesce into more than the sum of its parts, let alone merit repetition on any menu anywhere. This dish alone warranted 1 star, so I’ve averaged out my review at 3 stars.

We loved this place. Absolutely beautiful inside and out. The staff were friendly and helpful. The menu was priced well and our food was delicious. Not to be missed.

This lovely old pub is a favourite of mine. It enjoys a beautiful location, is well set back from the road (not a busy one), and there is duck pond at the front. Plenty of outside seating amongst lovely trees. Inside, it is charming — lots of nooks and crannies and pleasant places to sit. The menu is excellent, with a good variety of dishes. The food we ordered was nicely presented and very tasty. The all-round service was first class. I can thoroughly recommend The Blackboys Inn.

One of the best pubs in Sussex. It's selection of beers, historic interior and the story behind the pub is wonderful. Great staff and food, amazing beer and it even has accommodation. A must visit pub if you have never been before.

I grew up in Blackboys. I started frequently this public house once of legal age and have many fond memories of good food and fine ales. Go. You won't be disappointed.

Good food, sensibly modest menu specials & good regular offerings. Period to old world character and in the summer a wonderful setting for sitting out.

Great food with the current owners. The atmosphere is a bit 'local' inside and the service can be slow hence 4 stars but it's a pretty place and a nice stop for lunch, especially in the summer.

Went here for lunch, and the food was very nice. We also went here for the quiz night which was good fun; not too busy. Definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful traditional English pub. The building itself is stunning, oak beams and old fireplaces. The beer is a nice selection from a local brewery (Harvey's) and kept well. The staff were very friendly. We didn't eat, bit the food did look amazing.

Have eaten here a few times and it was good every time! Great beer selection.

I am not lying when I say this produced the best food I have eaten in a long time.
Yesterday was the first time I have ever visited this pub and it definitely will not be the last. I visited with mum and dad for a meal out, we mistakenly arrived 15 mins before the pub opened but the staff were so nice they let us in and served us drinks.
I really can't express how good the food was. I really recommend the two starters we had which were the 'scotch egg' and the 'camembert' which were simply define!

I'll keep this short and simple. Hands down the best Sunday Lunch I've had in the UK. Roast beef was really superb. Red wine gravy, cauliflower cheese, parsnips, Yorkshire's, roast potatoes and leeks onion and perfectly cooked beef. Sticky toffee pudding was devine. Drove 1.5 hours to come here, and wouldn't hesitate to come again. Very characterful old pub. Great service. It doesn't get any better than this!

(Just been back twice Autumn 2017 and even better, Happy staff and fab service) Enjoyed a meal on Saturday 5th Sep 2015, booked late but they still found us a table and the service was fantastic. The food was very good and the bar area has a great atmosphere. Also Free Wifi.

Room was excellent and well equipped. Service at breakfast was very slow hence only 4 stars, although once it arrived it was good.

Very disappointing meal here today. Waited an hour and 15 minutes before we were served. More so the customer service was poor. I ordered a 'medium' steak and I was presented with a piece of steak that was half almost medium and the other half 'rare', despite offering a fare solution by paying for half the steak (so that I wasn't left eating on my own) the waitress suggested I'd told her I wanted 'medium' rare' and basically they weren't prepared to make that compromise. I know what I ordered. My family felt the food was not great and they aren't frequent restaurant goers like me. I think they got the ice cream right though.

The beers are nice… Atmosphere fantastic… Very pleasant setting… Will try to get a room here next time im in the area…

Really good. Lots of outdoor seating if the weather is good. Good food, lots of specials. Have been here several times, always good.

We'd gone for a special meal to celebrate a 40th birthday and what a disappointment. Food was good but I wouldn't recommend it as the service was so poor. It took a while for all the mains to arrive. Half our plates were cleared and then half left. We had to ask twice to order dessert, and then a 30 minute wait after chasing it. Staff did nothing when we complained until we asked to speak to the manager who wasn't there. A senior staff member eventually gave us some money off our bill and grudgingly apologised and said she hoped it wouldn't put us off coming again. There's no way we'll be going again after that.

The quality of the chalets here are just remarkable. Very old coach house with great food and service. Very enjoyable stay whilst experiencing bon fire night at East Hoathly.

Found this little gem on the internet as visiting a customer nearby, when asked wher I was stopping he told me how good this place is. Having stopped there now this place is not good it's absolutely fantastic. The rooms the pub the food and the staff are all just fantastic. I stop in many hotels & pubs all over the country and have to say this is definitely the best I have ever stopped at.

Friendly, cheerful and accommodating staff. Delicious freshly made sandwiches. Extremely generous portions attractively served on black slates with ample green salad garnish and little bowl of chips on the side. Lovely old pub set in a beautifully​ kept country garden.

Terrific place. Needed to make a last minute reservation because of a flat tire. They found us a room quickly and allowed us to grab a late dinner at the bar. Food and staff were excellent! Great beers too. Room was really nice, very clean, and bed felt really comfy. Would definitely return!
