Nice friendly staff and good food.

Stayed for 2 nights and have to say very pleased. Room was great, clean, comfortable and well decorated. Bath in the room bath as a nice touch. Facilities good, nice shower and comfy bed.
Staff were very attentive and friendly. The team area credit to the hotel. Food was very pub like but was tasty and good value for money. Breakfast was very good with a good choice. The only small criticism is the rooms are not double glazed and with outside seating below our windows you could hear everyones conversation until very late.
All in all a good place to stay and not far from Cardiff City centre.

Great service. This is our second visit in two days. Great food. Attentive but not intrusive service and forensic attention to cleanliness. Ten out of ten. So glad to have this locally.

A warm greeting and having booked in to stay, that was a good start. Nice room, good shower! The Brains SA is very nice and moorish and the food? Wow, cockles, bacon and laver bread on toast starter, followed by superb faggots. If breakfast is as good, I'll be more than made up!

Had a 5* experience tonight at the Maltsters. We ordered a taveners chicken and a classic Burger. Service was quick and efficient and our server Jackie was absolutely amazing! Such a lovely person, helpful with our order and all round great asset to your team :) Our food was very delicious and would definitely leave space for dessert as the cheesecake was soft and delicious, as was the Oreo and bueno sundae! Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Gorgeous food, lovely friendly staff, great atmosphere! been here a good number of times and its lovely to be back now its reopened. The tables outside are a different way of life using the app to order individually but it was all explained well to us and our evening was fantastic! thanks guys, new menu was lush too!

Yesterday we attended. The food was fab but meals were brought out with Atleast 15minutes between so none of us ate our meals together. The desserts were forgotten about and In total we were waiting in the restaurant almost 3 hours when the time slot booked was only 2 hours. All staff were sent on there break at the same time leaving customers waiting And our dishes not cleared while waiting for our desserts. So overall the service wasn’t good at all. To be told they were busy which is understandable but while we were waiting for our food there was only 7 other tables occupied in there. So overall won’t be attending again.

Booked a table for 6 + 4 (couldn't book for 10) very slow service although the girl looked like she was on her own and she didn't stop fair play to her. Food came out slowly 2 persons had their and had finished b4 the rest of us had ours we where there for almost 3 hrs! I was waiting 30 min for my dessert in the end I had it to go. Food was stunning. Dont think we will go back again.

Visited on the evening of the 14th March to celebrate my dads birthday, 13 people in total. The pub was very busy as you would expect. Despite this we were well looked after by our waitress and immediately see the benefit of pre ordering our food prior to our arrival which is a new one on me. The food was excellent and the beer which I haven’t had for a while was great. Full marks to the friendly bar and waitress staff who coped well at a busy time.

Great beer, relaxing atmosphere with leather wingback chairs and chesterfield sofa and an open fire — no better way to start the weekend.

Beautiful place one of the oldest pubs in Wales ☺ stunning hotel absolutely immaculate and great food on offer what's not to like.

Waited to order but noone came so ordered fiod at the bar. Then waited over an hour for 4 sandwiches and not impressed when they arrived. Certainly not worth the money.

Fabulous place in the heart of llandaff Village, well appointed room with stylish bathrooms, breakfast was delicious with excellent service, we’ll definitely return.

3 night stay over as it was our anniversary and my wife had never been to Cardiff or south Wales before. All the staff have been brilliant and found one or two to be very funny as well … We have eaten here on each evening and found the food to be of a very high standard and excellent quality …

Stayed here for 1 night, stayed in room 1 it was a gorgeous large bedroom with beautiful ensuite! The food was delicious and the staff were very polite and lovely! Would definitely stay here again!

Had a nice lunch of Watermelon & feta salad, Asparagus & edamame bean risotto and Rhubarb, ginger & Apple crumble. Absolutely delicious and great value for the ££s. Good job! PS. Server who attended to us was very nice and helpful.

We were visiting the area. Our meal was delivered quickly. I asked the waiter if he'd clean the table as it was sticky and dirty. He said he would after he'd brought the cutlery. I started to wait for his return to clean the table but he didn't. Cutlery should also be on the table before the meal arrives.
We ate our meal at a sticky table. There were plenty of staff about but tables were not being cleared.
The meal was expensive pub grub. Mine was a beefburger which was overcooked and dry. The chips were good, soft and crispy.
Staff must clear tables and clean them as customers leave. I wish I had when the table wasn't cleared and clean.
We crossed the road to visit a different pub and a lady I'd met earlier in the week told us she would have advised us not to go there. Think they need to pull their socks up.

Maltsters was a great place to go for a Saturday lunch — we brought the dog and were treated to very good food at a reasonable price, in a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely come again.

Our table was booked inside, for 7 of us, but as the weather was so nice we asked if we could be seated outside instead. The staff were very helpful and assisted by 're arranged some of the tables for us. The service was great and the food very good.

Good food. Lovely venue and friendly staff. I had the soup of the day and the beer battered fish with chips, it was delishious. We meet for a family birthday meal. The staff were great and had no issues taking photos for us.

Lovely Sunday lunch. Nice to see oysters on the menu. Such a nice treat. Great atmosphere. Lovely staff. Bit of a wait for mains because it was so busy but worth the wait. Would highly recommend.

Reasonable atmosphere although nothing special, food fair to good (not real chips) but overpriced. Cheapest wine £16 a bottle. Plus point, no muzak. Minus point, service very slow when busy.

Nice local pub. Child friendly, even early evening over the weekend. Food is average, but still a pleasant evening to get out enjoy with the family.

Lately tho, it seems the cooking takes iver the whole bar as well as the restaurant. They need to improve their ventilation…

Fantastic food been here a few times now and its always nice would defiantly visit again and again.

Had a lovely meal, steak was superb. Waitress Sabrina was very pleasant and efficient.

Better-than-expected pub food with a surprisingly expansive menu and a lot of vegetarian options. Visited on a busy Saturday night so service was a little rushed and we weren't seated at the most ideal table (four places for five people).

Delicious lunch, had the 2 breaded chicken breast with sweet potato fries and my friend had steak and chips with peppercorn sauce with a side of crunchy battered onion rings. Great service too with a lovely and relaxed ambience in the pub.

I have stayed at this pub and found the accommodation very comfortable, clean and it felt like a real treat as the decor was very luxurious. The food is always delicious and the staff are very welcoming, would thoughly recommend. The Maltsters has a great atmosphere.

A great classic pub with open fire, friendly staff & the food is excellent. Clean facilities, car park (pay & display) & outside seating.

Staff are so friendly and polite, food is always lovely, cracking pint of Rev James and they have a dog friendly section. Perfect.

Welcoming friendly staff (Harry a star), good beer and good food. Great to just chill out or meet up with friends. Bus stop right outside for those more lively evenings. Car park at rear for the quieter ones! Enjoy.

Good for Sunday lunch. Have been here many times, though quality seemed to dip in the summer or Sunday roast last week was back on par and very enjoyable. Beer selection is a bit poor though.

Had Sunday lunch today for my mum's 87th birthday. Staff very pleasant. I'm veggie, so had Glamorgan 'crumble'. It turned out to be a differently shaped Glamorgan sausage — no crumble in sight! Also, the veggies were overcooked for my liking. The rest of the party enjoyed the roast sharing platters. I had the crumble for dessert, which was ok. But why oh why does it have to be served up in a small frying pan? I shared the bread and oil for starters with my partner. We agreed that both the oil and vinegar were of poor quality and the bread too bitty and hard. Normally I would say something at the time, but because it was a special occasion, I didn't want to make a fuss. I've had lunch here before and really enjoyed it. I'll go again, but not for Sunday lunch.

Good pub with decent food. We stayed here and the breakfast was pleasant. Let down a little by the cost of the rooms.

We've been waiting for an hour and 20 minutes now and the food still has not arrived. The staff are pleasant but what we need is a bit of honesty as to how long the food was going to take, we've not had that honesty and the food still hasent arrived. Terribly shambolic.

Haven't been for a while as the menu was always the same so when we found there was a new menu decided to try it.
Haddock and chips was Ok, fish didn't seem fresh but frozen. Chips were very nice.
Husband had the steak and chips which was Ok. But the rocket on side of plate was limp and dry (no dressing).
We won't be rushing back. Just pub grub.

Excellent food, good wines, and pleasant helpful staff. Easy to find in village of Llandaff near to cathedral. Parking (payable) with £1 refund if purchasing food.

This is the best place for eating fresh and tasty food. They just changed the menu and they added a lot of vegetarian food too which is very welcome. Very good prices accessible parking and large space to sitting. Lovely atmosphere always and fast service. When ever we want to be sure that we are eating something fresh an fast we getting here! Placed just off the main road, the Maltsters is a great place for a coffee, a meeting or a drink with friends, with a number of great areas to suit a number of occasions. The food has always been great on every visit, with a great, if small, selection of vegetarian meals on offer at a reasonable price, particularly in comparison to some of the pricier cafes and coffee shops along the High Street. With great service and a layout that suits groups of all sizes, the Maltsters might offer what you'd expect from a place of its type, but it does it all particularly well.

I had a pastrami roll which was average at best. Not enough filling. 3 colleagues had food which in fairness looked better than mine. Nice feel to pub though.

This place looks quite modest but inside you have modern standard hotel rooms, excellent beer selection and the food was divine. I did not expect this at all! I cannot think anything negative about the place so highly recommended!

Best Sunday lunch ever and desserts heavenly especially deconstructed Black Forest gateau. Friendly staff service slightly on the slow side though. Don't cope very well with large family gatherings, meals not brought out together.

Excellent food, lovely old building tastefully modernised. The young lady waiting on our table couldn't have been more friendly or efficient. Not especially cheap but worth a bit extra.

This pub used to be awful. A few years ago it had a total makeover leaving a modern drinking establishment. Unfortunately as its owned by Brains it has no character, and no choice of beer (other than Brains) and charges city prices. Try the Butchers in the high street. Not so trendy but still retains bags of charcter at half the price.

Very slow but otherwise good service. The best Sunday roast I've had in Cardiff.

The Malsters has changed over the years from being a sports pub with projector screen and pool table to no in its form as a restaurant type of pub. The new look is modern and clean with excellent facilities, plus Malsters gives a good reception to those of all ages with foods being served throughout the day, with new food menu's everyday and even an outdoor seating area it is appealing to visit.

Review of Maltsters 22/07/2012: Went there for Sunday Lunch last week. Sadly not a good experience. First off, it was cash only (OK these things happen) and it just went downhill from there. It took ages for food to arrive and when it did it was shocking. My wife — Beef Sunday Lunch £10.95. — A singled slice of overdone meat, 3 tiny, undercooked roasties, and a 1/4 of a parsnip that was apparently roasted. Overcooked carrots and broccoli. No other veg. Me — Shredded Moroccan lamb salad with beetroot, feta and mint £7.95 + parmesan chips £1.95 — Seeing shredded I assumed this would be warm meat. Instead I got sliced pieces of cold lamb, about 2 of which had any seasoning on. I've never seen shredded lamb served cold.? Meal was small IMO as a main and chips undercooked. There was no kids menu, so we asked what they could have — ham + chips or sausage + chips (way to go healthy! ) — no prices mentioned. Child 1 — Ham + chips £5 — undercooked chips, the ham was good, but was unique amongst all the food in that respect Child 2 — Sausage and chips £5 — undercooked chips and a single spiced pork dragon sausage. For a 3 year old. Every meal was over-priced for what we got. We made clear our disappointment at the end and fair play to the bar-girl she ran through each of the points with us; the chips were nigh on black/dirty, but still udnercooked? they're cooked in rapeseed oil; why only 2 veg? it was late in the day; the lamb was cold? that's how it's 'meant' to be. Etc.

We only now go for drink, and thats expensive, but we have had food and found it very expensive and portion size poor and food below par. Stick to having a drink and u be disappointed but dont have food here.
