Excellent food. Delicious, generous and fairly priced. Excellent service. A pleasantly surprising and wide choice of wine by the glass. A first class experience in a comfortable setting.

Had a wonderful lunch today at The Hardwick, food was delicious, service was brilliant and atmosphere was lovely, I was so full I had a desert to take home, the chocolate mousse is divine! I’m a wheelchair user and this is the first time I’ve visited in years since injury, there are ramps throughout, we had a little trouble with a lip on the ramp and a member of staff assisted me no problems, and was extremely happy to help. It’s so lovely to know it’s accessible and I’ll be back soon!

It was our first time here and we had an Amazing Valentines day meal. It was the best food we have had in a LONG time! Atmosphere was amazing, cosy and well designed. Excellent Covid measures in place, staff were amazing. Quick and Efficient service… and price was reasonable also. We will definitely be back for more, it was a great end to our day! Thank you ❤ 5

Great quality food and service. We chose it to celebrate a special occasion and weren't disappointed. Lovely menu catering for a wide range of tastes complemented by a good drinks menu. A lot of the food is chosen for being seasonal and local so you're guaranteed top quality. Fantastic atmosphere and would thoroughly recommend it.

The Burger on Friday Evening was really good and the Chicken Schnitzel was divine as for the desserts we will be back just to take on the dessert menu. The staff work so hard and are attentive without being overbearing we will be back and thank you for a great evening.

Our takeaway burgers were delicious, in particular my veggie burger which was the best I have ever had. Also loved the chocolate mousse and cheesecake desserts. A lovely treat during lockdown.

Our Valentines takeaway was fantastic today. We miss eating great food and this really hit the spot. Thank you, great job.

Have always wanted to try food from The Hardwick and collected food tonight from the burger menu. Wow! £12.50 for the best burger ive ever had. I had a meat burger and my wife had the veggie one and they were amazing. Even though it was a takeaway the quality was as good as if we were eating in. Both my wife and myself loved them and you have a guaranteed booking from us when you re-open.

Thank you for an evening to remember. Last night was exquisite. Food was outstanding as usual. Our young waitress was a delight. New.? Utterly charming. Polite, attentive not intrusive and most importantly a smile which is so rare. She did you proud and made our evening just perfect. Thank you.

This is an amazing place we discovered by accident a couple of years and what a delightful accident it is!
We booked for evening meal with bed and breakfast and we weren’t disappointed in any way. The service was excellent; just the right amount of friendliness and attention. Some excellent wine recommendations neither of which anywhere near broke the bank.
Stephen Terry and his team have Covid restrictions down to a fine art. We felt safe at all times and with career background and a mother in law literally on her first trip out of lockdown this was so reassuring.
The food; what can we say; perfection on a plate! I cannot highlight either one of the dishes we had as they were all truly delicious. Entree’s included beetroot and goats cheese cream salad, I could have happily stopped at that and not felt cheated, the rump of lamb main course was like no other lamb we’d ever eaten and believe me we’ve eaten in many high end restaurants. We couldn’t decide between the Vanilla panne cotta with berries and honeycomb with black pepper or the Bakewell tart with custard and home made raspberry icecream so we each had a tart and shared the panna cotta; both were divine.
Special mention must go to ‘Chef’ who was the nicest most unassuming chef we’ve ever had the pleasure to meet and Beth our main waitress for the evening who truly made us feel very comfortable and welcome. However the whole team were great! Thank you

I have just had the most amazing 3 course meal. The atmosphere, the staff, customer service and the food were all to perfection. The duck hash is highly recommended.

Another fantastic experience at the Hardwick. Normally we do the a la carte during the evening, but today we went for the lunchtime set menu. As normal the food was absolutely delicious and the service fantastic. We’ll be back!

Over priced food. Portions small. Food was delivered cold. Needs to improve their service in order to justify their prices. There are plenty of other good restaurants out there willing to take peoples hard earned cash.

We’ve been wanting to visit The Hardwick for a long, long time and you’ll be pleased to hear that we were not disappointed. We had the most delightful cocktails, beer, lunch, overnight stay and breakfast — which were all very reasonably priced. We attended a wedding at the Sugarloaf Barn and the staff were only too pleased to book a taxi to take us there. All members of staff were extremely attentive and friendly, they couldn’t do enough for us. The food was absolutely fantastic, each course was perfectly cooked and presented. We would highly recommend the restaurant to all those foodies out there! Our room was beautiful and had a fabulous view of the countryside. The icing on the cake was seeing Stephen (Chef) during our relaxing breakfast. He is such a lovely chap and we look forward seeing him at Pub In The Park, in September. Thank you to the Hardwick Team for giving us such a great weekend break away. Diolch.

Very enjoyable stay and dinner at the Hardwick. Made to feel welcome from the minute we arrived until leaving. Food was excellent and portions generous, in fact my wife's chicken main was perhaps a little too generous so I had to help her out, as too good to waste :-). I had the lamb which was full of flavour, both had the hash starter which was amazing. Breakfast the next day was the best I've ever had. All cooked to order and kept us going all the way to dinner, despite a long walk in the nearby mountains. Overall we felt it good value given the quality of accomodation, food and service. We will definitely be back to the Hardwick and this lovely part of Wales again soon.

This place was always on our bucket list to eat. Arrived and was greeted by friendly staff and we went for a drink on the courtyard before being taken to our table. Nice surrounding but table in a bit of an awkward place almost as if it had just been put there between the bar and the exit from the kitchen. Our order was taken and the anticipation for the food began. When the starters arrived they all looked lovely. Can't speak for the others but my panzanella salad looked amazing and made with good product but the dressing was seriously salty. Main meal arrived again they all looked lovely. I had the sea bass and again the fish was lovely but the dressing on the accompanying items was super salty again. Others in our party enjoyed but the lamb was a bit of a let down too. We decided not to have dessert. Wine choice was lovely and well informed staff. We enjoyed the wine so much we decided to check out where we could buy some to see there was a £20 mark up on retail price. Don't get me wrong I know there is corkage and extra to be made but £20 extra? Dick Turpin comes to mind. Overall rating of 3 and glad we went but I won't be in a hurry to return can eat just as nice for appt less. Very much style over substance.

Went for Sunday lunch today for the first time had high expectations based on reviews, the staff were friendly enough but seemed very inexperienced.
The starters were excellent and we were looking forward to our main course of the roast beef option unfortunately this was very disappointing the roast potatoes were very hard as if they had been reheated in the microwave the beef was thinly sliced and tasteless, the yorkshire pudding was well over done bordering on burnt and the vegetables were soggy the gravy was tasty but sparse and when I asked if we could have some more the waitress replied "I don't think so" when we complained the staff seemed disinterested and bored.
To be fair the desert was delicious but all in all a very disappointing experience and we won't be returning as we have had better food and service in alot cheaper establishments.

Absolutely average I'm afraid to say! Disappointing menu, attempting to be great, but with little choice, the reality was little better than a meal at the harvester! If you are charging £30 for a rib eye steak, it better be better be the best steak ever, it sure as he'll better be better than one you can cook at home for yourself, and this was not! I'm afraid to say that this experience reminded me of the Emperor's New Clothes; everyone says it's good, so it must be good! But it wasn't!

Skinny fries were delicious! Rocket Salad with Parmesan Cheese was good! The ribeye steak was inconsistent in quality. We both ordered the the ribeye steak @ £30 each. One was nice and juicy (the piece on the left in the photo). The other was overcooked and dry — didn’t taste like ribeye steak at all (the piece on the right). View from the restaurant was fantastic. Service could be improved.

Nice restaurant with quality food and pleasant staff. The prices are at the top end of the spectrum but with such a nice environment it is what you would expect. However, we had a couple of significant issues such as wrong wine, slow drinks service and one poor main course where a £30 steak was served with some thin slices a meat as a sort of make-weight. These issues were all dealt with professionally but shouldn't happen and that is why I can only give 3 stars for a restaurant that aims higher.

I thought the food was lovely but dare I say it, perhaps not worth the prices that are being charged. The cabbage soup was a little too heavy on the cream for my liking. Burger was nice but I've had better for much less than £20. The pork belly was nice but where was the rest of it?! (See small squared object in photos) The octopus gnocchi was ordered and the sauce was extremely overpowering so you could not taste the octopus which was a shame and all food seemed extremely salty. But not bad though. This was just my personal opinion (and those I dined with) Puds were very nice though And ice cream to die for.

Nice atmosphere and the food was perfect. Service was a bit slow but the restaurant was full. Service was very good and the price of the meals were decent too.

What a fabulous meal we had here! So good, we went again for lunch 2 days later! Big choice menu, all of it super delicious. Too many to mention but the Duck egg hash deserves a medal. Lovely old lodge. Highly recommended!

A small B&B come Restaurant in a landscaped location near Abergavenny, topped with excellent dishes, a lovely house red and white and a service to top. Highly recommended particularly for those "I want to get way from it all" occasions.

Amazing food! Amazing friendly staff who couldn't do enough for us. Amazing environment. I can not highly recommend the Hardwick enough. My son started to feel unwell whilst we were there. (Nothing to do with the Hardwick as many bugs from home) the staff brought him a hot cup of bolied water with fresh lemon and honey in it.
Will try to get back again soon.

Never had a bad meal here. The food is fantastic, however, for the money only 1 bowl of veg between 5 adults for a Sunday meal is a bit measly. Also the kids Sunday dinner for £10 only came with peas as the veg with the meal. Just not as professional as you’d expect for such a highly rated restaurant. The food was lovely best beef I’ve ever tasted but the experience didn’t meet expectations.

Wow! Amazing food and amazing service. Lovely friendly staff made us feel so welcome. And even helped my son with hot lemon and honey when he was not feeling great x.

Absolutely the best the food is out off this world again go every year and every year I say it’s better stop over night the rooms are wonderful lots of room for you to relax in, the staff have time to talk to you nothing is to much, even the chef has time to come and talk to you and make you welcome, would recommend to everyone, so relaxing no rushing you to finish your food, 3 hours not a problem,

Very pleasant Sunday lunch. Comfortable, although very busy. Understandably popular. Reasonable price, although wine's a bit pricey by the glass.

Wonderful food! Great service, mainly down to the almost unique idea of actually employing sufficient staff to provide a great experience. Warm welcome too, without the need to call us "guys".

Not an experience I wish to repeat. The pork and venison terrine was like eating a sausage. The beef roast main course was the worst I have eaten in years. The beef was tender but the flavour was non existent. The roast potatoes were dry and tasted very much as if they had come out of the freezer. The vegetables were a disgrace, a mixture of mashed swede and carrot, peas, tiny bits of cabbage, other sliced carrots and 2/3 bits of cauliflower, not hot and all crammed into a small serving dish. Thank goodness we hadn't ordered a pudding! There were no condiments on the table, we had to ask. The only reason I gave 2 was because the staff were pleasent. Would I recommend or take friends there, I certainly wouldn't. Don't waste your money even a person average at cooking could have produced a better meal.

This place is exceptional. Incredible food priced so fairly considering the quality, amazing wine list, general vibe lovely and the most welcoming and kind staff we’ve ever experienced. We will most definitely be returning.

Food was outstanding. Loved the sourdough bread and butter. Came here for a Sunday Roast. Hands down, best Sunday lunch I’ve ever had. Beef was really tasty and tender. Pork fell apart. Really good roast potatoes — I like them crunchy/crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Seasonal veg a bit salty but that’s ok because I don’t eat vegetables anyway! Staff were lovely, friendly and attentive. It was nice of them to accommodate my request for triple cooked chips even though it wasn’t on today’s menu. Surrounding area is beautiful. Nice decor in the pub. Definitely coming back.

Love this restaurant. Stephen Terry, chef of this restaurant with rooms outside Abergavenny, plans to open one in Cardiff before long, we hope. The food is locally sourced and I particularly love the choice of starters… delicious nutty salads, goats cheese, heritage beetroot… though my husband prefers the meat options… such as rabbit three ways!

Never had a bad meal. Staff always helpful and courteous. Chef Stephen Terry is sociable and happy to chat… as his commitments allow. Some may say expensive but I believe you pay for what you get — good food, locally sourced, cooked to perfection. If you want piles of conveyer belt food then MacDonalds is up the road!

We have been here many a time for special occasions and have never been disappointed! Wonderful food, beautifully decorated restaurant and the customer service is second to none! We also stayed in one of the rooms attached to the restaurant… immaculately decorated and really made the whole evening/night a fantastic experience. Will be back again in the near future!

Happy, sociable but knowledgeable staff. Barman knew provenance of ales and made a nifty cocktail. Sunday lunch menu had plenty of choice even for the vegetarian amongst us. The bill for six people was acceptable for the quality of service and food that we had.

High end pub style food, both relaxed or dressed up type of place to eat. The staff are very attentive and the food is very impressive. Award winning dinning.

We had a great Sunday lunch yesterday. 8 of us booked but 6 arrived due to illness: no problem. Had a gorgeous pink pepper gin with tonic in comfy chairs and ordered our meals. We were taken through to a sunny conservatory with open doors to a courtyard, and our starters were served almost immediately. We hadn't ordered our wine till sitting down, and there was quite a wait: we'd finished our starters and they'd been cleared before the drinks arrived. The fish soup was delici…ous, and other enjoyed their poached egg and cavolo nero with hollandaise sauce on sourdough. Most people had the pork shoulder with crackling and caramelised apple sauce, thoroughly enjoying it. I had the roast chicken breast with charred baby gem lettuce, fresh anchovies, sourdough croutons and soft boiled egg with grilled pancetta: delicious!
It was a hot day so most people in our group had ice cream served on chilled slates, and raved about the salted caramel. I had the Valrhona chocolate mousse with salted caramel sauce, shards of honeycomb and chocolate covered popping candy. The lady on the next table said it was very rich, but I ate every scrap of mine. Lovely day, good service and excellent well cooked unpretentious food. We will be back.

Had a beautiful meal, the best Sunday roast you'll have with plenty of refinement and lovely service from the team. The restaurant is really homey with plenty of parking. They accommodated our 9 week old baby with no problems.

1. Pros: amazing food, great service, location offers great views of the Welsh hills 2. Cons: nothing really to say! 3. Interesting Fact: you are first asked to order drinks and food, lounging in the reception area before been guided to your table. 4. Specific Recommendation: The beef croquette and the pork main course is a must!

Could not fault the food and given the fact Stephen Terry is such a well respected and renowned chef this will come as no surprise. Beautiful fresh local ingredients perfectly presented. What did come as a surprise was the service. There's a fine line between being unfussy and unpretentious and on the other hand just a bit poor. Sadly for all Stephen's excellent cooking the service is just that. I'd certainly recommend going but don't expect to be blown away.

First time at the Hardwick. Enjoyed the quiet atmosphere, and the choice of food was superb. Some really quirky items on the menu! Only two downsides — the restaurant is out in the sticks a bit (nominated driver needed) and it is not cheap. Having said that, I'll definitely be back.
