We had lunch here on Thursday and it was absolutely delicious! The waiter (unfortunately we didn’t get his name) was wonderful and made such an effort with my son, to make him laugh and enjoy his meal! The icing on the cake for us was that unfortunately my dad has left his insulin pen which of course he needs on him at all times, the waiter found out all our names and managed to source our numbers and phoned everyone of us until we answered and stayed behind at the end of the night until someone could come collect it! (he even offered to deliver it to us! ) I just want to say THANK YOU! You went above and beyond for us and we appreciate it so much! We hope you have a Merry Christmas and will be back to see you very soon! I P. S wish I knew his name so we could thank him properly!

We ordered a takeaway this evening to celebrate my daughters birthday. Absolutely fantastic from time I called on the phone service brilliant, arrived at the door from a lovely lady bang on time and the food was amazing! Thank you!

Had a lovely family Christmas meal yesterday at the Northern Hotel. Food was very nice and the staff were cheerful and friendly. Thank you for looking after us and we hope you all had time with your families at some point in a busy day.

Great food and service great value.

This hotel caters for everyone and even cats and dogs are allowed. Nice surroundings and beautiful rooms. Food is excellent, and a nice selection of drinks in the two bars. Ideal for families who want to have a break away. Prices are reasonable. Quality is good. Car parking available.

Great food, great staff and pleasant with it. All questions and requests were auctioned without any issues. The breakfasts were superb and the Sunday lunch was without fault. Well done, we’ll be back.

Had a lovely night at the Northern Hotel. Wasn't sure what to expect but was really pleasantly surprised. Secure free parking, lovely cosy lobby area, spotless clean accommodation. Hairdryer and tea making facilities were also available in the room. We had our evening meal in the hotel restaurant. Service was A1 and menu had lots of choice. My partner can be a fussy eater but there were lots of traditional options e. G steak pie etc to choose from. Food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Hudson bar is connected to the hotel via a hallway. Neither myself nor my partner drink but the bar had a free jukebox and a pool table (50p per use) which we both enjoyed. There were deals on spirits in the bar (we didn't drink though) but soft drinks were also cheap which was a real bonus for us. Lastly I would call out the really friendly hospitality we received from the owners. I'm not normally one to socialise (my partner is the social one) but Joanna and Pawel were really lovely. Clearly very hardworking they were very welcoming and really made our stay a lot more memorable. Would definitely return and would definitely recommend.

Went for their Carvery, with our daughter & 3 Grandsons. The food was amazing, great choice, brilliant service, well catered for children. The price was very reasonable too, warm & friendly atmosphere. Definitely recommend, would certainly go again!

I ate at the restaurant here as part of a group of 20, to have a celebratory meal with the groom ahead of his wedding day the next day. Although the menu was extensive, the food quality was very poor. Out of the various options our group chose, none of the feedback was positive. Starters were forgotten as were parts of the mains (two people in our group were not given Yorkshire puddings, which was clearly part of their meal). The courses came out at different times (fine, to be expected in such a large group) but some people were waiting up to an hour for their course. The food that did arrive was bland. However bad the food, this would have still been a 3 star review and not a 1 star if it weren’t for one particularly awful member of staff: the barman working behind the restaurant bar on the night. Our group was in a celebratory and positive mood — we had spent upwards of £550 (at least! ) by the end of the night. As we were all paying our bill, one of our group mentioned that his main took half an hour to arrive and wasn’t of the quality to be expected. Rather than take on the feedback as good customer service would dictate, the barman was aggressive and looked to his junior, female colleague (who had been nothing but lovely over the evening) and said if he wanted a refund, that it would come out of her pay check (which she silently took on and continued keeping up a front of cheeriness, rather than being mortified and upset as anyone would be! ).

Terrible place throughout. Frozen and microwaved food, very pricey on top. Manager is horribly unfriendly and unfair towards his customers and staff. After a complaint about a delayed dish he had a go at the waitress in front of the customers that that would be deducted from her salary. This instead of simply apologizing to us.

I was thinking back through my entire lifespan to think of a meal that was as terrible as the ‘food’ they served us here. There were more options on the menu than people in the restaurant. We were a big group and every meal was consistently bad. Some quotes such as ‘onion rings of air oil’, ‘macaroni swimming in oil’. The food was clearly microwaved/frozen, left out for months or perhaps worse. The only thing worse than the food was the manager, after we complained about a forgotten dish he began to shout at the waiter that everything will be coming out of her pay. I would like to tell you the bad food was accompanied by reasonable prices but unfortunately the prices were akin to a London bistro gastropub rather than food that would have disappointed even in an era when places such as brewer’s fare were seen as the place to be.

Great place for laying your head down whilst working out of town. Dinner was great, well cooked and great service. Likewise was the breakfast. Would recommend to anyond passing through to give it a go.

Well! Where to start. Ate at Northern hotel today for lunch. To say we were disappointed is a huge understatement. My brothers meal, sicilian chicken was OK… Ish. My sister in laws' meal, spicy prawn pasta consisted of a bowl of spaghetti, a few vastly overcooked prawns smothered in an obvious jar/bottled sweet chilli sauce with a few extra bits of red pepper thrown in. It was just about edible as we were late for lunch and all hungry. My chicken curry was the 'piece de resistance' a few hard lumps of overcooked chicken in the worst curry sauce ever… Tasteless and unseasoned, accompanied by 4 tiny poppadoms, obviously microwaved. Worst meal Ever. … Portion sizes small, which in this case was a blessing! … Service poor and we couldn't get waitresses attention to tell her the curry was not acceptable. I told her when she cleared the table. She apologised and said she'd tell the chef… But that was the extent of dealing with my complaint. Will not be back. Used to be my favourite restaurant… Now… No way!

Been many times for lunch or tea but today with 2 of our friends we decided to try the carvery it was delicious again great service so we will definitely be coming back for more!

Staff are really nice. Heating is sorted now. Cosy comfortable atmosphere. I keep going back, so must be doing something right.

Valentines meal was absoutely superb, thoroughly enjoyed everything about our meal. Have had many meals in the Northern, try something different most times, never disappointed. Staff extremely friendly and service very prompt. Thoroughly recommend eating here x.

Perfect high tea setup for our event.

This hotel is located in the centre of Brechin. It has a car park for hotel residents. There is good Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. The staffs were friendly. The room was sufficiently large with a comfortable bed. There is an elevator available for anyone who requires it.

We eat here when we're in the area. The food is good, but the service could be better. A shame they don't serve sandwiches on the weekends, too.

Nice atmosphere, but rather quiet.

Used to be a great place to eat but since its changed hands the standard has gone way downhill. We've been twice since the new ownership and been disappointed each time. Everything was overcooked, the veg looked like it at least a week old and all the food was tainted with an unidentifiable taste. Won't go back.

I attended the Northern yesterday for a family funeral and was very impressed. We were served soup, sandwiches, homemade sausage rolls and a variety of small cakes. All food was excellent. The staff were extremely attentive… we were offered several top ups of tea and coffee. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful and
went above and beyond. It was quite a large funeral and they coped extremely well. I cannot fault a thing.

Was there for a wedding reception. Room was very nice and bar staff pleasant.

Been for lunch and tea a few times now can't fault anything! And well done everyone yesterday for keeping up the great service even though staff were rushed off their feet with the Harley Davidson event! Thought we would be waiting quite a while for our food but no! And once again we were delighted with the service and food!

Great place for any events (parties, anniversary, wedding, business meetings, etc. ). Rooms are very comfortable, cozy and modern. We did have lovely evening over there. Perfectly located in the heart of Brechin. This if perfect place for long and short stay. Staff and owners are super friendly, helpful and they do everything to let you feel welcome. That is why you will have pleasant stay there like we did have. They serve great and very tasty food and you can choose whatever suits your needs including vegetarian meals. We did have lovely meal there few times already and we will come back for sure. This is perfect place for family meals and any other occasions. Strongly recommend. We will come back for sure. The Northern is a nice local hotel and the new owners are trying to make the place good for kids.

Friendly staff, good for an afternoon cuppy. It's quite a dark setting with the way it's decorated, but otherwise a pleasant experience.

Lovely wee hotel, rooms are very nice and freshly decorated. Great choice on menu, food is first class. Staff are extremely welcoming and helpful.

Thenk you very much for a great Party Night on 23rd December. Food was great, music was good a bit loud but good. Staff all very plesant and helpful. A new till system had been installed that day so the staff were a bit slow when working but that is understandable. More waiting staff would've been better but other than that. Good place for a function and food.

We ate as a large party for a pre-Christmas meal. There was a bit of a mix up with starters but when corrected they were good, main courses were ok, maybe a bit unimaginative on the restricted menu. Puddings seemed to go down well. Staff were cheery and helpful on the whole.
