I arrived in the evening around 9:37-ish and I tried taking a picture of how lovely the light illuminated the place in the night time but sadly my camera isn't such a great model so swopped to the phone to try and take a few pics before heading inside to check-in. Once through the doors, I was met with lovely reception staff who gave us the details we needed including our room key before telling us where we could find it. It was then that I was distracted by the amazing interior furniture… 19th century I would assume and it had that Old World Elegance and Charm about the place as we headed up the stairs to our room. The place is undergoing refurbishment but this didn't detract from the lovely room we had or the beautiful scenic views over the private grounds. Kind of surprised to see a proper well on the one side of the grounds and there are even swings and playground area for people who have kids. But since we arrived so late we didn't see much as it was pitch dark outside, yet as the rain cleared up you could see the stars so clearly it was amazing. Plus the next day we were simply awed by the sheer beauty of the views we had from the room. It simply amazed us to see this soft mist envelop the mountain we could see in the distance and the light and clouds slowly parted over time as the sun started to shine down above us. For Breakfast we had a full Scottish breakfast and you can either order that along with coffee or tea, or you can eat your fill of toast, cereal, yogurt, fruit etc. There is something for everyone. As for our room, I found it was lovely and met all our needs adequately. After a good 2 hour drive we were tired and just collapsed on the bed and didn't stir until the next morning. The pillows were soft and fluffy/bouncy I should say and the bed was a tad rigid or hard but strange enough it was perfect to sleep on. We had coffee, tea and sugar/milk in the room waiting along with two packs of biscuits which I loved. One was Viennese Whirls (sort of like a very buttery shortbread) and the other one was an oatmeal cookie. I tried one of each since the packets contained two within of each. And have to say… it tastes a lot better than most other cookies I have tried bought at good shops like Sainsbury's or Asda. For the shower the only thing I will warn is this… I am not sure about other rooms but ours had this glass divider over the bath that swings out. No walk-in shower — so if you struggle to get into baths or have a habit of slipping in a bath, you may have to ask if they have alternative rooms available with perhaps a walk-in shower or something else…? Not sure, but for me it was perfectly fine. I just know some people prefer actual walk-in showers to baths where a showerhead is attached. Overall there is no noise with the refurbishment side of things until at least after 9am in the mornings I believe. I didn't hear anything before sitting down to eat which was about 9:30-ish in the morning. After that I readied myself to head back to Newcastle Upon Tyne, but managed to snap a few pictures of the grounds and drive-way before heading home with a smile. To be fair, some of the reviews had me scared that I was walking into a terrible place, but I loved it. Certainly better than some Brittania Hotels I stayed at in the past. And I have been at Brittania Hotel in Edinburgh and in Manchester. So to me… Hetland Hall Hotel was really lovely and had great staff working there. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely go back at some point since it was just an overnight stay but to be fair, there are golf courses nearby and castles worth visiting so I really want to go back. Hetland Hall Definitely Has my Vote for Awesomeness!
