My wife and I have stayed at battlesteads twice this year, we love the lodges with their massive bathrooms and comfy living areas. The tasting menu is great, as is all the food we have experienced. The restaurant and bar staff very friendly and helpful. Our only slight gripe is that it can be hard to find anyone at reception.
we would not hesitate to stay, or dine there again if in that part of the country.

Fantastic first time at battlesteads in the lodge. Spacious lodge, superb bathroom and loved the little extra touches. Food in restaurant was delicious with plenty of choice. Staff were great. Would recommend to anyone wanting great accommodation and fresh home grown food. We will be back!

Our fourth visit to The Battlesteads and it won't be the last.
Garden area is looking fantastic and the new gazebos are a great addition.
Food as always was excellent value and so tasty. Drinks selection was also good with reasonable prices.
Lodges are very spacious and well equipped. Nice coffees, teas, biscuits and fruit provided. Great having a fridge in room too.
Staff were excellent, in particular Denisa and Daisy who were outstanding. Everyone worked super hard on a busy, scorching weekend. Well done to you all.

The staff are lovely and helpful and deserve to be paid properly, but until they are I don’t recommend it, which is a shame as the hotel, location, but mainly the staff are amazing. Government released info about the owners not paying the minimum wage: Preystone Property Investments Limited, trading as Battlesteads Hotel and Restaurant, Northumberland NE48, failed to pay £9767.15 to 26 workers.

Dined in here on eve of 2nd lockdown, food was lovely and staff couldn't do enough for us. They even provided our 3 labradors with a big bowl of water and dog treats.
Beer was also a very good quality.

Stopped here for sunday lunch staff very abrupt not 1 smile or greeting. Food was cold off the carvery not nice at all.
while waiting to be seated watched as chef came out from back no mask no gloves grab meat off the carvery and eat it there with the way things are with covid I found to be a strange thing to do infront if diners why couldnt he get a plate and eat like guests I stead of picking at the carvery. Wont be going there again very poor service for a restaurant that looks and feels nice. Staff could do with some customer service training and chef health and hygene course.

8 course Taster menu was excellent, we opted for the pairing wine for an extra £25 per head, well worth it. Food and Service exceptional, especially Barman Andy, top fella.

Called in for a 5 course taster menu and could not fault it. Very interesting dishes each one perfectly cooked and beautifully presented on the plate. Nice surroundings and good staff who described each course as they served it. A very enjoyable experience.

Here for a wedding present, nice trip to the observatory. Amazing food, lovely staff, great homemade gin and cozy rooms. Saw some constellations and two shooting stars.

We stayed over as they offer EHU for our camper.
Both had the 5 course tasting menu and it was amazing, great that everything is grown on site or very locally sourced, such creativity in the dishes. The bar was well stocked offering local beers too.
Service was impeccable.

We recently stayed in the luxury lodges. Totally blown away, amazing rooms and staff are lovely, daisy in particular was very welcoming and helpful. We chose the battlesteads as its dog friendly and couldn't be more impressed. We even ended up staying an extra night as we enjoyed it so much as did our little border terrier. We will definitely be returning in the new year. Thank you battlesteads and all the staff for making our mini break so special :)

We stayed here for our mini moon. The food was wonderful, the staff were friendly, the location perfect. We will be back.

The staff were amazing; nothing was too much trouble for them, they were efficient and friendly. The room was lovely, with fresh fruit, great selection of teas and coffees. It was spotlessly clean, and there were attractive toiletries. Then there was the food… beautifully cooked and presented, using local produce. I loved the fact that it is a ‘green hotel’ using solar power and biomass heating.

We went there for our wedding anniversary at the start of October and it was a fantastic experience from first check in to check out. We had the taster menu with paired wine and it was worth every penny.
Breakfast was perfect and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
I ordered some flowers to be delivered the day before our anniversary, they kept them chilled overnight and then delivered them to the room as we had breakfast.
I will definitely return but this time I’ll take our dog Max to this very dog friendly hotel.

Lovely meals friendly staff lovely setting have been 4 times in past 4 years and never fail to enjoy our meal there.

Brilliant stay at the Battlesteads, with 1st rate food, beer and staff. Special mention to Morag (I owe you another pint) and the owner Richard, who made our stay all the more special. Room was immaculate, with all the comforts of home and will definitely be returning next year (hopefully for the beer festival)! The dark skies event was fun and informative, with Chris' enthusiasm and knowledge.

A group of us stayed for one night whilst attending a Car Rally. Staff were very friendly. The beer garden was lovely to sit in for a wee refreshment before dinner. All 10 of us agreed the food was very nice, everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Rooms were nice and clean with nice touches such as fruit baskets. As we had to leave before breakfast they kindly gave us all a packed lunch containing sandwiches, fruit juice, crisps, fruit, cereal bar & chocolate biscuit — a kind gesture that we have not had anywhere else. Would definitely stay again.

A marvellous hotel with comfortable rooms, cheery helpful staff, sublime food and a wonderful garden. There is s dark sky observatory too. The pub is inviting and cosy. Meals here are genuinely high quality restaurant level. This has been a delight to stay at.

Do not go in room 9 constant kitchen extractor noise. Took 5 times of asking for something to be done about this. We had to suffer this all day and everyday till 10.00pm. The hotel knew this was an issue so why not sort it out. Pity all the meals we had were excellent.

Fabulous hotel, friendly staff, excellent food. Second visit and will definitely stay again. So many walks in this area and great birdlife.

The staff is helpful and nice, the food is decent, the rooms are great, the prices are genuine for the location, the observatory has great equipment, demonstrators and specimens to see, however, the sky still has some light pollution from the village nearby as the hotel is on the very edge of the dark sky controlled zone but not exactly in it… You can still see some spectacular views of the night sky bur I think it still needs to be a bit darker to observe the milky way. Overall our experience was great. Make sure you do book an event with the observatory. :D.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Great food, great owners and staff. Made us so welcome and made our Stafford, George, so comfortable. Absolutely recommend it.

Smashing all round friendly establishment that welcomes dogs. Decent food and drink and the breakfast table is amazing. We stayed (twice now) in one of the luxury lodge suites and will certainly return.

Absolutely fantastic service from the whole team; we felt like warmly welcomed locals when dining or drinking in the comfortable bar area. Table service was better than some of the high end restaurants we've eaten in before! Great access to areas of natural beauty, and we loved the focus on being environmentally friendly and serving local food and drink. The lady at the bar was very knowledgeable about all types of gin available, hic! The only missing star is down to the bathroom in our suite. It didn't seem to be of the same standard as the bedroom and felt more like a caravan bathroom. Otherwise, a fabulous place to stay and relax with good food and good drinks!

Can't fault this place, beautiful 6 course tasting menu, great service, very friendly staff. The evening ended with star gazing from the observatory which was part of the department. Chris and Stuart were the hosts and were excellent and although a little cloud we had an amazing night, I can highly recommend the whole evening.

The staff at The Battlesteads are lovely and very efficient, service is second to non. We had the five course taster menu with the observatory experience and couldn’t fault it one bit. We stayed overnight room 8 and again had no complaints it’s all about the little touches like a fruit bowl, biscuits and a choice of filter or instant coffee as well as several teas and hot chocolates. The bathroom was well equipped with toiletries and duper clean. Can’t wait to return next time for a few nights x.

A fantastic place to visit. The tasting menu is extremely good, and a stretch to finish. It is also stunning value. The A la carte menu is also very good and good value. Staff were both very pleasant and very competent. Best service we have had for a while and friendly, not at all stiff and formal. We also went stargazing at the hotel's own observatory, which was wonderful and quite eye-opening in all the best ways. As it was December, it was very cold, but there is a heated room with hot drinks to dive into. Good explanations about what to see on an excellent telescope plus powerful binoculars to use while waiting you turn at the scope — it was surprising how much you could see with the binoculars. We had a great time — thoroughly recommended.

Our room was huge! There was a jacuzzi in our massive bathroom and they even put out dog sweets, a blanket, duck wet dog food and lamb dry dog food for my collie. Actual love this place! The food was amazing too.

We are staying at the hotel this evening but wanted to post a review straight away. This place is great … friendly and helpful staff, luxurious accommodation, amazing food and even the most spectacular skies this evening. The ultimate in relaxation! This evening's meal was outstanding, from the complimentary wild mushroom and truffle soup the chef sent out to us, through a delicious pan fried cajun chicken and prawns to the most sublime ice cream I've ever tasted (recommend the liquorice and toffee! ) We will almost certainly be back.

Excellent hotel. We stayed with our dog and 8-week-old baby. We were really impressed with the staff, who accommodated our needs to sit at a table with space for the pram (and dog). They even stored our baby's milk for us. The food was amazing and locally sourced. Our room was huge (we stayed in one of the lodges). It had everything we needed for our dog and baby there too. Huge bath, huge bed and a sofa to relax on too. We had a great time!

Just had a wonderful overnight dinner bed&breakfast stay at Battlesteads, a gift from our children for our wedding anniversary. The Lodge room was large & spacious, beautiful comfy bed. Dinner was delicious as was breakfast this morning. All of the staff were very friendly &efficient with lovely smiles which makes a change with some hotel staff! Would highly recommend staying at this establishment.

We were picked up as promised even though we were a little late. They were ready for that : wall walkers sometimes are. The room was comfortable and spacious. The restaurant was roomy and there was even a place to have a quiet drink and play some cards. The evening meal was up to big city restaurant standards and there was a large selection of beers and wines. Breakfast also hit the spot.

My partner and I booked to go to the observatory on Friday night and had a really enjoyable evening. Mike and Chris are very knowledgeable Astronomy enthusiasts (their words to describe the wealth of knowledge they possess). The talks were interesting and we learned a lot about constellations and galaxies. Even got to see Saturn and its rings which was amazing. Definitely worth a visit. :)

Service was so inept it was funny. All Eastern European employees who seem to have had no training. Food was OK.

Spent two nights here, tasting menu dinner first night was delicious. Cooked breakfast with great menu including kippers. Fab night stargazing in the Observatory. Spacious bedroom, super atmosphere, smashing staff. Highly recommended.

Decent, although not my favorite BnB accommodation during this trip. The dining experience here is a bit odd in that the bar staff seems to be competing for tips against the dining room, and will be rather aggressive in persuading you to have your drinks in their area instead of your table in the dining room. Overall, we had a comfortable stay, however.

From start to finish it was a really nice experience. From the spacious rooms to the quality food and the enjoyable observatory.

An excellent hotel with great locally sourced food and a top selection of regional real ales. What's not to like! Staff are good too.

My wife and I shared a fish platter which was excellent for a light lunch, followed by the whisky marmalade bread pudding which was superb. Staff very friendly and there was a relaxed, efficient atmosphere. Much enjoyed.

Good food. Gammon is usually done very well, though I'm still in two minds about whether cold pease pudding to go with it is a good thing.

Fantastic food, beer, wine and whisky. Massive variety in all of the above including some regular favorites such as chocolate brownie pudding! Now the battlesteads has its own astronomical observatory for guests and casual visitors and the general public.

A most welcoming place to eat: the food is excellent, the service is attentive and it has a very pleasing atmosphere. In summary it is very good value and is highly recommended. They grow a lot of their own produce and source the rest locally and sustainably.

Excellent food, great garden at the rear, liver was excellent, lamb was great, veg from the garden also excellent, friendly staff, I wll go back for another meal.

My computer skills are not up to adequately praise our two stays of one night. We hope to return next month and have told anyone who will listen to make sure to put it on any itinerary of the area. Food, comfort, location and welcome are of the best and to get a really good room when travelling with a dog is a rarity. / On no account leave before breakfast.
