Doune Braes Hotel Bed and Breakfast

My partner and I spent 2 nights last week in Doune Braes Hotel. We were made to feel very welcome, the girls were so friendly towards us and our dog Bertie. Our room was very large and we had great views. We would definitely recommend this hotel. Thank you for having us. We had a lovely time in the Hebrides, such a lovely place to visit.

First night food great, friendly staff.

Food was great, burgers were amazing as produced by cattle owned by the hotel. Fish was fresh, everything was in fact. Generous portions and we were well looked after by the staff who were fabulous and helpful, even though it was very busy. Lovely wee hotel, a gem in Carloway and would recommend to anyone. Ps Bailey’s cheesecake was to die for.

Excellent food and service from this lovely hotel. Waiting staff were attentive and efficient, food was tasty and locally produced. Will certainly return.

Family went to Doune Braes for dinner this evening, all 5 meals were bland and tasteless but one dish was accompanied with a dead fly in it. The waitress apologised but still charged for the meal. We certainly won’t be back, ever.

First time here. Whilst a bit out of the way when working, it’s really comfy with lovely food. Just right after a hard day.

Lovely place, quiet at about 4pm when we called. Really nice staff, would go again.

Restaurant review only. Friendly staff. Food is very poorly executed: soggy fried haddock, vinagery soup, poor enchiladas (very little choice on the menu…). We came to the place because we trusted decent reviews for a place to eat on the central North coast, but we regretted the choice. Avoid if at all possible.

We go to Doune Braes frequently. It is not trying to be anything it isn’t. It has a comfortable lounge with cold beers on tap, a chocolate tray and a welcoming aura. It is what you make it. We love it.

Lovely place with very warm atmosphere, friendly ducks, dogs, cats in the garden plus very good food. Optimal location to visit both lewis and harris.

Fantastic. Had a lovely family high tea. Excellent service and fantastic gluten free options!

First visit despite living in the area many years ago. Very friendly and accommodating service. Easy access for our son who is a wheelchair user. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Good menu choice and great food. Staff put us all at ease from the minute we arrived and interacted superbly with the kids. We really enjoyed our lunch here.

Really enjoyed our stay here, put us up at short notice and had an entertaining evening with the owners partner on the local whiskey in may 2015. Cant comment on breakfast as we missed out haha. Drove past the Callenish stones long way to go to see a pile of rocks…

Nice room, warm and clean but towels too small. Food good. Good situation for west coast tourist sites, and access to the beautiful beach at Uig — not to be missed. Staff very friendly, and the most dog friendly place I've come across. Not your run of the mill place, but quirky and good fun.

Our guide booked a room in the back side if the hotel with a view of the sheep pasture on the side! it would have been nicer to have a second floor view of the front! The T. V had no signal thus NO T. V. Thank God we had the Callanish Stones to see! Over all the food was great and the staff were Amazing! Oh Yes! If you get the room in the back side of the hotel. Leave the window or door open or the steam from the shower will set off the Hotel fire alarm! We had the staff show up to tell us the alarm had been triggered by our shower! Although, WE did not hear the alarm… EVERYONE else in the hotel DID!

Not the best all round. But suffices for a small stay.

Small portions (tint fish fille for £13) but very expensive. Disappoining.

I didn't stay overnight only for lunch so can't comment on rooms but the food was good and the hotel is one of the few places open on a Sunday. It is convenient for visitors to Callanish standing stones an dun Carloway broch.

This is a lovely Scottish hotel where the rooms have plenty of space, the staff could not do enough for you it is very near the standing stones well worth a visit.

Food was at best mediocre, at worst inedible and over — priced. The burger was inedible and we were told when we complained that it had been returned to the chef and he had tasted it (eurgh, not good! ) and that it was dense, highland cow meat that we weren't used to but in fact the burger was over cooked and difficult to even cut, let alone eat. If it wasn't for the fact that the whole family were there, we would have pursued this and spoken to the owner but we did pay and were sadly disappointed. The service from lady who served us prior to the complaint, however was very pleasant.

We were looking for somewhere to eat in the area — were unsure about trying this hotel as I had read mixed reviews. The menu wasn't particularly inspiring but staff were friendly when the food came it was decent enough and we had a nice evening.

What a great place! Very comfortable, welcoming, and set in one of the most beautiful places on the planet-the Isle of Lewis, near the Callanish Standing Stones. Eileen greeted us with a smile and really made it feel like home. The pub was well stoked, and dinner was delicious. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. The breakfast was included and was very tasty. A shout out to Cat the bartender and Mac the dog. Thanks Eileen for enhancing our trip!

Worst hotel ever would never recommend… Completely got my booking wrong and over charged me as well…

A great venue, whether it's to go for dinner or for a few pints. I highly recommend anyone who is looking for a place to dine to go to Doune Braes Hotel, Carloway.
