First time for a main meal really nice and friendly staff. Kids menu needs to be looked at though as portions are not based at kids he had the same burger as me.

We had the daughters wedding at the craigie yesterday and it was fantastic the food was great the staff were fantastic and the wedding venue was fantastic It’s a five star for me.

Had a delicious Full Scottish breakfast this morning at the Craigie. The staff were very friendly and attentive, food was amazing and the hotel is beautiful too. Can't wait to go back. Highly recommend!

I've visited here a few times to meet friends recently been lovely. The food is outstanding.
All the staff are so welcoming and friendly and have all covid safety measures in place which makes me feel so relaxed in the restraunt. And continuing the help out to eat out for additional 2 months is just amazing well done to you all hope to see you again soon thanks again.

The food is absolutely amazing, lovely surroundings, and staff are all very friendly, adhering to all the rules, would highly recommend and is on our doorstep.

A lovely welcome on arrival, the staff are amazing, we had a delicious meal, Alana was always at hand for more requirements, thanks to the chef, we will definitely be back again.

Had a lovely meal, food was piping hot and service was great! Would highly recommend it.

Came in for breakfast on Sunday. Asked if we could sit in the bar area and we were told this was ok. Sat there for 10 minutes and were ignored so we had to get up to ask for menus. Ordered 2 full breakfasts with no beans which arrived with beans. Asked for brown sauce and was given ketchup. Small things but disappointing.

Excellent food and attentive staff. Chef made fish and chips which isn’t on Saturday menu… it was delicious… thank you! Will definitely be back! Lxxxx.

The food was great nice place would highly recommend 3 courses for £12.95 with a glass of wine will be back very soo.

Absolutely lovely venue, we tried the special menu, 3 course for £15 excellent price but you certainly got a very budget meal. Big disappointment,
Pate served with no garnish a terrible chutney no butter or a knife to spread with.
Macaroni cheese was greasy, parsley mixed into it not very tasty but fab chips.
Cheesecake a very tiny portion and a soup spoon to eat it with.
It was such a shame, the staff clearly need training.

This place has nice rooms to stay in and has a bar and restaurant area. Nice wood burning fire you can sit next to or outside if the weather's nice.

Lovely hotel, within easy reach by car of trams into the city. Gorgeous rooms, fantastic bathroom, amazing staff. Buffet style breakfast really tasty.

Without any hesitation about this being a 5 star review. I booked my wedding when The Craigie had just started the refurbishment and so glad I went with my instinct. Saturday 19th May my wedding finally arrived and The Craigie did not disappoint. Nothing was too big or small for Vanessa, Juan and the team. Huge thanks to all chefs who catered for our every need & served outstanding food. Customer service was first class & our big day went smoothly.
A place not to be over looked when booking your special day.

Had meal in restaurant and was very good and waiter service was great too very attentive staff. Went for drink at bar didn't have purple gin that I was told to try so had lemon gin and tonic was a bit sour for my taste.

Hotel looked amazing. Staff were very helpful and attentive. I was attending a event and working. Would definitely like to go back to stay over.

This is my first visit since the refurbishment and I sadly won’t be rushing back. Despite my rating yes there are many positives but my personal word of caution if you are a Coeliac don’t rush to book a table here. Gluten Free options very very limited for both adults and children, especially children. The waiting staff as well as the Chef should be more clued up on dietary requirements. The dining area although beautifully decorated would feel a bit cramped at busy times! The waiter dropped dirty napkins down my back due to the single file path up and down the dining room. Service could have been better despite the number of staff! The restaurant could do more in terms of being family friendly. It was also a bit unfortunate that when leaving there appeared to us a funeral wake/ gathering in the bar area and I felt uncomfortable and as if invading on a private occasion just to exit the hotel. Whilst there is a lot of positives for The Craigie the report card says “could do a lot better and plenty of room for improvement”

We had our first trip today and the food was very tasty. I had a steak sandwich and my partner had the burger. My son brought his friend they had sausage & chips & a chicken kebab. While they were tasty no veg came with the sausages which wasn’t so good. Also the chicken kebab came with salad, which was nice but a corn on the cob or some peas/broccoli and chips would’ve been a bit more child friendly (3yr old). We shared a sticky toffee pudding for dessert and it was really tasty. The kids had ice cream which always goes down well. I liked that they had kids cups and not glasses, though for a small kids cup of apple juice I was charged £1.90! I felt that was excessive for a small Ikea cups worth. Also we ordered coffee and when it arrived it was cold, we were offered a replacement but opted to leave it and get the bill. Please don’t take this as a bad review, the food was really tasty and I would go back. Staff were lovely and it was very welcoming.

Top notch Hotel, We spent the night in the Bridal Apartment (17/02/18) Had Dinner and Breakfast all as part of The Valentines deal. My wife was over the moon with everything. Thanks to all the hard working staff at The Craigie. See you all again soon. Cheers Willie & Kerryanne x.

I've been on the refurbished Craigie a few times now and I've really enjoyed it each time. It's been a massive improvement on the last one. The service is fast and welcoming. The foods really good too (I'd recommend the venison pie and the sticky toffee pudding). Sadly I've never stayed overnight there, so I can't say anything about that. I'd recommend for a meal or a drink with mates.

WOW! Well it's a big thumbs up from me that's for sure, I absolutely love The Craigie. The food, service and hotel is in my opinion exactly what Penicuik required, the staff are all really friendly. The moment you walk in you feel welcomed and the attention to detail is there to be seen, What a total transformation and a big well done to all involved. I would describe The Craigie as a superb, relaxed and friendly place where a real cosy atmosphere makes you feel right at home especially when the log fire starts roaring, I was in yesterday (2PM — 05/12/17) for business lunch with a client and from start to finish I could not fault the level of service provided, the food was simply outstanding, I was lucky enough to speak to the Chef (Nick) when he had a spare few minutes from his busy schedule. It was clear to see Nick is a very skilled and highly professional Chef who is always looking to please every customer who books in for food whether it be a light lunch or evening dinner, the menu is superb, so much choice and even a fussy eater like me managed to get what I wanted. The presentation of the food on the plate to the food being piping hot, is what makes the big difference in a restaurant. I'm looking forward to many great nights up here with friends and family. Well worth a visit. You won't be disappointed. See you all again soon. Cheers Willie.
