WARNING DO NOT STAY HERE

1/10
Upon arrival management were instantly rude to us and shouted at us as we had supposedly parked our car in the wrong space, although it was an official parking space. We asked if it was ok if we left it there and the managers response was “well you’ve done it now” and completely cut us off. We had arrived early before check in so we sat down on the benches outside and had a drink waiting for the others in our group. As more and more of us arrived (24 in total) we felt like we were being watched like a hawk and felt like we were being talked about in Welsh as they would suddenly switch from English to welsh everytime we went to the bar.

When we checked into our rooms we discovered that one of the toilets was out of order and was full of what can only be described as a bowl full of someone’s very upset stomach — absolutely shocking. Obviously this was not ok so we went to speak to management and his response was “the plumber was supposed to come but didn’t turn up, if you need to use the toilet you can use someone else’s room” well thank god for that, he’s given us the liberty of using another persons toilet, how nice of them — they tried to redeem themselves by offering that room of four a free pizza each however there was poor communication between staff when the night team came on and we only got one pizza to share, when questioned they were extremely cutting and said that we can only have one. They didn’t even bother cleaning the dirty toilet, one of our group members brought bleach and cleaned it himself… no matter how little you pay for the stay you do not expect to be doing that your first night.

Furthermore to this as we were a big group we rang ahead *twice* to see if we could book a table in the dining room for a specific time so we can eat together, on the phone we were told we can however this was then refused when we went down to the table and the response was “we don’t take bookings” luckily we managed to all fit in as kind members of the public offered to move off multiple tables they were already eating at just so we could all sit together.

What kind of customer service is it when the manager starts making things up about your group saying that we had supposedly sworn at bar staff and then threatening to kick us out … yet we had done nothing wrong. We also had a bar staff member threaten to “take this into the car park and finish it off” I am actually speechless.

On top of the faeces filled toilet, many of the beds were broken and management claimed that they did not know about this yet supposedly they clean the rooms before each stay. The springs were poking through the mattress’s giving you a horrific massage everytime you moved in the night and also there was mold in every corner of the bathroom/showers. Now I know it’s not exactly the ritz but you do expect basic hygiene standards and especially a working toilet that hasn’t got previous guests faeces in it. Also to add, the room supposedly was able to sleep 8 but between the many broken beds and also a top bunk with no ladder which resulted in no way to get up, it made it very hard to fit a group of 8 people in there.

I have epilepsy and asked for my trained medical alert dog to come along with me and they point blank refused, I reminded them that it is discrimination and it is illegal to not allow a guide dog into a building and they just said that they’ve never had that request before and that it is “their rules”. I tried saying my guide dog can alert me to a seizure before one happens and could potentially save me from multiple injuries and they didn’t care, I even offered to show proof that he is a legit guide dog, they were not having it, they also to advertise their place as dog friendly. Unfortunately I did have a seizure there and I did hurt myself. Also from what I was told by my group, management didn’t care and didn’t bother helping and they seemed to have no first aider on site too which I thought was a legal requirement for a workplace to have a first aider not only for the public but for their own staff too should they need one! The only people that seemed to care were lovely members of the public that offered their coats to keep me warm.

Not only was the place disgusting and management horrifically unfriendly and rude we had no apology all weekend until I spoke to the duty manager at the end of our trip. We had a conversation about how poor the service was and how we are utterly disgusted with this place, he had his back up from the start but I finally got one apology. The first apology all weekend, hooray!

I know the location of this pub is fantastic but I would honestly recommend saving yourself the traumatic experience of staying here — you will very likely NOT have a good experience. It says a lot when locals ask where you are staying, you reply “the heights bunkhouse” and they laugh and come back with “good luck”

Hopefully this review will make you think twice about staying here in the future.
