I had the most wonderful time at the Tartan Lodge in Glasgow and I really didn't want to leave, alas I had a wonderful tour of the rest of Scotland to go on. The people the atmosphere here and the great location make this a must return. And did I mention the great price. Cheers.

Clean rooms cheap and friendly will definitely go back again.

Very affordable! Also nice to have an en-suite and power socket and shelve above the bed! Also very clean with clean linen!

It has a very friendly atmosphere. It's clean and warm inside. The outside looks a bit old but it's charming old. It has a very low price for a bed, 8£ and for that money I've slept worse in cheap countries. So I would say there's a lot of value in this place. The rooms are big enough, and the bathrooms are very nice I must say. You got hot water immediately (not so evident if you've traveled a lot) when you turn on the water. A downside is that the kitchen is cold. Doesn't make it pleasant to eat and enjoy your diner. But the kitchen has an oven. That's warm. ;)

Very clean and good place.

Room has 3 singles, booking. Com had double booked our room so we were upgraded. Never stayed in a hostel but room was clean and fresh bedding and towels. Large toilet and shower room.
Bed is comfortable
Reception were helpful when I asked for milk for tea this morning.
Small car park at back of building. Large lounge room with TV. Very good self catering facilities with range cookers and microwaves. A few banging doors during the night and our room had no windows. £30 per night for private room was very good on two hours notice.

It is not too far from downtown, only a few minutes. Lots of restaurants and grocery stores are nearby. The hostel is clean, and the maid service changes the Linens every day.

If you are traveling through Glasgow and are looking for quality great value accommodation, I just can recommend you the Tartan Lodge.
The staff is really friendly!
The shared rooms are well appointed, though a basic hanghing wardrobes system with shelves in the large empty spaces next to the beds would be a real plus!
The beds are comfortable and very spacious giving you still the real feeling of "private space".
If I have a negative remark to make, it's concerning the shared kitchen too small and the equipment that should really be replaced for some!
By cons, the atmosphere in the dining room. Is particularly friendly and enjoyable!

There were many men drinking alcohol and watching football in the dining room every night. They didn't leave any place for the people who wanted to have dinner. One of them was even taking pictures of girls there without consent.
Rooms don't have a reading light included. If you want one, you need to leave a deposit. They also charge for a locker if you want to leave your luggage after checkout.
Reception desk personnel was very kind. The only bad thing is that they would enter in the rooms in the middle of the night looking for beds for arriving customers, and turned the lights on, waking everybody up.

I would not recommend this accommodation. Booked an early check in and charged for it. The room was not ready. Took 4 maids to make bed after 3 sets of different sheets. Room not cleaned had to wait another 45 mins before getting into room. Got charged twice and took a full 2 weeks for refund and we had to contact them everyday. Going out side my pal got glass in foot ended up in A&E and stitches. I would seriously think twice about staying in this accommodation.

It was a hostel. Very basic, slept in a room shared with 5 others and just 1 shower room and toilet to share. Definitely not enough. Shower room wasn't very clean. The curtains had blood stains on them, and if you want a towel you have extra charges coming out of your ears. Your experience is very dependent on who you're sharing with, first night were a load of backpackers who got up at 4am and I didn't hear a peep. Second sleep a few backpackers got up at 7am making a racket. Oh and a crazy homeless lady who thought turning the light on at 4am was acceptable. If you can get a private room then do it, if you can travel and book with a load of friends then do it. I don't recommend for pairs or singles.

Do not stay here. I have stayed in many hotels and never had service so horrible. Not only where they over booked and had to be moved rooms multiple times but on both mornings at least an hour before check out, members of staff let themselves into our room without even knocking the door. Outrageous.

Situato abbastanza vicino al centro da poterci andare a piedi, anche se il tratto da percorrere non è molto gradevole. Edificio molto vecchio e scricchiolante, senza ascensore. Odore di moquette molto forte, soprattutto nella camera. Cucina completa e attrezzata, carente però nella pulizia. Sala pranzo con tv, accogliente con tavoli e divanetti. Ho trovato tutti gli ambienti eccessivamente riscaldati.

It's very basic, done the job. Far to war. Windows don't open. And extremely noisy at night.

Thieves. Booked 4 nights in a private room. I arrived late due to a cancelled flight and had to sleep on an airport floor. Upon my arrival I find out they cancelled my reservation, kept 100% of my money, and rented MY private room out to another guest. They told me I should have phoned, even though I already paid for my room in full and there was nothing they could do. So someone else is sleeping in the room I paid for and surely they charged them for it too. Furious. Attention City of Glasgow: I recommend you look into this business, audit them, and shut them down.

Clean, comfy, free parking. Best dorm beds I've slept on, and I've been around ;) Power points and a shelf enclosed within the cabin make for a cosy nights kip. Highly recommended.

I'm content with this place… if there are problems it's really your room mates. Room was clean and tidy. Bathroom en suite was clean too. Of course it's a bit noisy since the M8 is running past outside. Bus stop to the city is right outside. Glasgow Cathedral and the Necropolis are only a 10 minute walk away. All ok for the low prices.

When it comes down to it, the cleanliness of the bathroom and the friendliness of the guests is the most important part of a hostel. I would rate the cleanliness 4/5 and the friendliness 3/5. There is no 3.5/5 bc I feel friendliness is a little more important in a hostel so I give it 3/5.

On our journey through Scotland, we were in many hostels. Unfortunately, Tartan Lodge was one of the worst by far.
In our eight-bed dormitory we had no chance of Wi-Fi.
The other guests of our room, were also not as expected other young people in transit, but rather older men, who gave me the impression that they could finally spend a night under the roof through their savings.
So unfortunately it smelled in our room.
Now it can be said that the hostel is not primarily what can be done for its guests, but information from the mostly poorly humoured staff was rather meagre and we could not be helped.
Despite the rather favourable price, I would say that this is not justified.
Yes, you get a bed and this one was not objectionable either.
And yet we tried to power the day so much that we couldn't help but fall asleep in the evening, because the stay would be unstoppable.
Verdict: Rather homeless shelters, as a modern hostel for young people!
No Wi-Fi and far outside the city or other activities.
The cleanliness and bed are not objectionable due to the low price …

The staff are very attentive and friendly. The place very quiet and 15 minutes walk you are in the city center. It's the cheapest thing I've found in Glasgow.

Nice place, clean. However, too far outside. Taxis from Tolhouse pub 3.80 pounds.

Location was great, very easy to get to city centre. Room was decent, exactly as described and very clean. Was not impressed with the staff. Someone opened our door to check if the room was empty, BEFORE check out time. Later that morning, after paying for late check out, someone started knocking at the door again saying it was past check out time, despite still having over an hour til we had to leave. Surely they would've been informed about who had paid money to sleep in a little later. There was a clear lack of communication between staff which had a negative impact on my stay. Unlikely to stay again as a result.

If you travel to Glasgow and are looking for a calm night and warm welcome, I REALLY recommand you this hostel! Only 20 min far from the center by foot and 10 min by bus. It's a quiet, clean and safe place to stay! The bedding is particularly comfortable. Thank you again to the staff Barry and Joshua :-) We'll come back as soon as possible!

Value for money is great, it is not a hotel, the room is hot, the bed comfortable, and has a common kitchen to be able to cook, it is a hostel to save money.

A very nice hostel and very clean, the bedding is of good quality and the staff very helpful. The hostel is a bit far from the city center, about a 20 minute walk but it is right next to the cathedral and the necropolis. I would recommend it for a short stay as for a long one!

Well equipped, I stayed in a 6 beds dorm, space is a lot, shower is very good! Easy to find a parking space nearby! For this price, can't find anywhere better.

CAREFUL NOT to LEAVE ANYTHING YOU TAKE AWAY THE CLEANING STAFF We were staying one night after arriving by plane to visit Scotland we were all family in 1 room of 4 people on March we saw that we forgot some glasses and 1 book We called to say we would keep it And they told us that there was nothing (CAREFUL WHAT RROBA MAGAZINE THE STAFF OF LINPIEZA)

Good value for money but in a great location.

Great little place in a fantastic location with easy access to the city centre. Brilliant facilities in the place itself too and nice clean rooms. The only problem I had was that in a private room, house keeping wasn't shy about coming into the room whether you were in or not. Some do not disturb signs would fix this and save my girlfriend running to the bathroom.

The cheapest hostel in town! That's good. But we had several problems with the card that opens the bedroom door and so, as many other guests, every time we wanted to come in we had to reset the card at the reception. We went there in November and apparently they were doing some renovations. There were no tables where to eat in the kitchen and in the living room there was a strong smell of sinthetic paint. Just one bathroom and a shower for a small room with 14 beds it's not enough. Good location, but I wouldn't stay there again.

Worst place I've stayed all trip, Staff are rude, unhelpful And they try and get an extra pound out of you every chance they get. Refused to give me my towel deposit back because they lost it, Wi-Fi doesn't work and they're in a shocking location. Only positive was the beds were fairly comfortable.

Good overall experience. Great location and facilities, clean and relatively quiet. Only negative is about staff. Out o 3 member of staff I encountered at reception was warm and slightly friendly. The guy who checked me in on Friday seemed to be very lost and did not seem to know what he was doing. After checking me in, he made me wait until at reception while he checked someone else in, being around 10pm and me feeling really tired I just wanted to find my room and rest. I found him to be be out of touch and unprofessional. No ground rules explanation or other information. Checking out on Sunday, another young guy at reception was not even to respond to a greeting or say a single word during the process! I just don't get it. Now I feel although I liked the facilities and cleanliness I don't think I'd go back, I think human contact is part of the whole experience especially having shared a room with two great guys. I think they should be trained in customer service or or people who understand the hospitality business be employed.

Always stay at the lodge when visiting Glasgow! Reasonably priced, clean and tidy. 5

If you're looking for a cheap stay in a hostel this is a good choice. It's about 30 minute walk from the centre or a 10 minute bus ride, bus stop is just over the road. Can't say I would stay here again though, building was excessively warm (October) so had to have windows open all night and it was loud outside with the traffic and crossing. Duvets were amazing and thick, pillows and mattress were satisfactory. Kitchen facilities are good, social area could be made more homely. One bathroom to 8 people was a bit difficult. But can't knock the place for the price.

Weird place. Private room OK. Clean and bright but no ventilation. Check in took WAY WAY WAY too long.

It was nice and clean and all, but the key cards for the rooms didn't work literally every time I wanted to enter the room. I always had to go down to the reception, where they then fixed the card. That wasn't only me but everybody in my room, and probably everyone in the entire hostel. The staff was quite friendly, but seemed pretty unmotivated at times (which is understandable, I also wouldn't want my main occupation to be fixing everyone's key card every day).

Check in takes a good 5 minutes and holds up everyone else in reception. Beds are pretty rough. Staff fail to tell you that your room keys are prone to de-magnetization and you need to get them fixed at least three times a day. Kitchen is nice but staff don't tell you how to use the stove. This hostel could be great if you felt like the staff even gave half a damn.

15 minute walk to the centre. Rooms pretty basic but each bed has plug sockets. No towels. Guys on reception were helpful. Lots of fridge space.

It is a nice hostel but be careful with some details or they will rip you off. Don't use your card for example, each time you use it they will charge you a 3£ fee for it. I wanted to upgrade my room so the front desk person promised to refund me the following day after I talk to management, because he had to charge me a whole new room. Next day I found out there is no management office there and that I could only write them an email. Today 5 days later and thousand of miles away they haven't reply to me. Of course no refunding at all. 3£ just to rent you a small little towel. 4£ for a poor breakfast. The list goes on.

I liked It. Nice hostel, helpful staff, clean rooms. Location is 20 minute walk form the city central, bus stop is opposite the building. Unfortunately the my keycard much times not operated, and to use the Wi-Fi in the FB must log in every time. Never log in automatically.

Extra charges for any little thing, Wi-Fi is really bad, weird atmosphere overall and the location is not that good.

Very clean, lots of storage space. The bunks were high quality compared to a lot of places. The Wi-Fi worked well but it was weird you had to check in to Facebook to use it.

Very friendly team, facilities were all good, very clean, bed was big enough for me (6"5') and most importantly the loo roll was really high quality! Have already rebooked a night there on my return journey.

Solid hostel north of the city centre with good value for the money. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Rooms and common area were clean. Bonus points for the cool building, as the hostel is located in a former church.

Cheap & Cheerful. Bus stations opposite service everywhere quite regularly. Good facilities, car park a bit messy but free parking cant knock it. Well equipt communial kitchen dining area.

Nice enough place, staff are quite friendly. Stayed a couple of times, nice environment, very homely. Good quick free Wi-Fi too!

The rooms were fine and the decor of the hostel is beautiful. The Breakfast is not to recommend, and the kitchen and Lounge were mostly unclean.

So scary. The wrong end of town. Always crowds of men standing outside. I didn't feel safe.

Type hotel hostel (in the seen in the number of room). Located next to a fairly busy motorway, which isn't really a problem once the window of the closed room.
Dorm room not very big but clean. In each of these rooms, large bathroom with shower, toilet and sink.
Small kitchen to the seen from the number of rooms, Ditto for the common room.

10 pounds for checking in slightly after 10pm and to top it off "no we cant keep your luggage behind reception for an hour because management wants you to get a locker for 3 pounds a day" will turn any guest into a deeply unsatisfied one. Avoid at all costs.

Worst hostel during our stay in Scotland. We stayed in a room with one of the managers who used his TV up until around 2 am so no sleep there and he didn't care at all. Then in then ext room a group of loud people entered and went on to bang on the walls till around 4. The manager in our room called the reception but nobody did do anything. Also the beds felt like they were made out of plastic.

I guess it depends what you were expecting. Firstly, the inside doesn't bear the teeniest resemblance to what it once might have been. The insides have been removed, and with it any character of an old building there once might have been. That said, the dorms are clean, nice bunk beds, a bathroom with a shower inside the dorm, and mostly helpful staff. Someone called Derek is someone you want to avoid before he starts telling you that 'they' can see everything you write on the web and that his son is one of the highest paid people at Microsoft. I've never before been to a hostel where one had to pay £3 to store one's things. Currently at Castle Lodge, it's free. I think the most I ever paid was $1 in the USA. Storage if from 12 midnight to 12 midnight the following night. The issue with that is if you get up at 10 am, store your stuff from about 11 am and go to bed at 9 pm, you never get the full 24 hours. Why it can't be from the time you put it in until the next day or from 8 am to 8 am the following morning, I don't know. When asking about laundry facilities, I was told that I had arrived inconveniently (Derek), and that he had just put in a huge load for someone. I explained to him that I just wanted to know how it worked and what it cost. He explained to me that it cost £8, that I couldn't do it, and that it was more expensive in the laundromat down the road. The kitchen was clean and the dining room presented free sitting space for people to sit.

Lovely place. Convenient location. Really helpful staff. Clean rooms and toilets. Love to come back.
