Not the prettiest of castles but the views from the castle were stunning and the gardens such a surprise! Very well tended and extensive. There was a huge variety of flowers in the walled garden. Sadly we went on a busy day so there were no guided tours! Each room had a laminated sheet explaining some of the exhibits and a human guide in the room that you could ask questions. The cost was £14 per person for the house & gardens. The car park was free however. Boat trips to see the seals were £7 each but it was so busy and there was a huge wait, so we passed on that. Worth a visit especially on a miserable wet day! Get there early and do the boat trip first!
Lovely outdoor building — castle, lake surrounds, great and varied gardens. Inside castle had interesting bits of McLeod history. Would have been better if more rooms were open. Film is very dated. On the pricer side compared to other castles £14 (£12 gardens only). Can add a seal boat trip for another £7.50 which made it more reasonable for those interested in doing that.

As a castle it’s just average, nothing special really. There is one floor that can be visited and it’s smallish, when compared to other larger castles. I think it’s a bit overpriced for what it is. When you are all done, you ask yourself… is this it? The shop has some of the most outrageous prices I have seen in the whole country. The gardens are almost more interesting than the interior of the castle. Then there is the seal trip… how that is related to the castle is a mystery. Just one more excuse to get money out of tourists. £8 per person to go with a tiny boat 200 yards and back, is a bit much to be defined honest. By the way, even though they will sell you a ticket for the castle & gardens, the gardens are actually open to the public. Somehow I always feel a bit ripped off with these “deals”.
