Called in for a pint with dad on Father’s Day, very friendly and welcoming & a very nice beer! Ended up having Sunday dinner & pudding after being tempted by the food being served around us and thank goodness we did! Absolutely delicious! Staff very efficient, lovely atmosphere and bumping into old friends to reminisce a while, made his day. Thank you Nikki & staff, we’ll be back for sure 🍻

Not been for a while as moved out the area but my stay is always spot on.
Pop in for a drink or stay in the comfiest (huge) bed… you’re guaranteed a warm welcome. I love it here.

We had our first takeaway this evening from The Shoulder of Mutton Inn and it did not disappoint. Lovely food and brilliant value for money. We were allocated our own collection slot — they're clearly taking our health and safety seriously (which is fabulous to see with all this craziness right now! ). Thank you very much — we will definately be returning!

Lovely friendly pub. Everyone very welcoming. The owners kept us up to date by email and phone especially as the weather wasn't great and had caused a few floods they let us know the best route. The food was beautifully cooked and a lovely choice. The room was a lovely size for the two of us with everything that we needed. The bed was very comfortable. Can't recommend this place highly enough definitely 5stars.

I had the pleasure of staying at this lovely pub last night. What a friendly atmosphere both staff and locals made me feel right at home. Great food, rooms clean and just as you’d want them. What’s not to love. Keep up the good work!

All round fantastic country pub, ideally situated if your visiting the National Aboretum, accommodation is excellent and the staff are friendly and welcoming.

Absolutely fantastic pub.
Staff were very friendly and extremely accomadating. We had a birthday meal with 11 people, and a child and baby in pushchair. One memeber has several allergies but the staff were so accomadating with it, the chef even made a meal up for her on the night. Food was A* really fantastic place.

Brilliant place to stay very warm welcome on arrival nothing was too much bother very good with children park in the garden games for the room and even took them to show them the animals … breakfast included was amazing everything freshly cooked and plenty to choose from very friendly people defiantly stay again and recommend.

We stayed for one night with our two Cockapoos as we were going to Doodlefest the next day. I can’t praise the staff (and other clientele) high enough, they were super-friendly and very accommodating to both us and our dogs. One thing about breakfast, if you want the full English then don’t have dinner the night before! I saved a sausage from my breakfast for the dogs and the chef gave me more for them which we shared with one of the other canine guests. My only reason for not awarding 5 stars is that the room was a little dated (but perfectly adequate) and a little cramped as it had two double beds in a size better suited to one king size but great value for money. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

What a wonderful place, can't wait to return and stay again. Highly recommend to everyone. Very welcoming with delicious food and a gorgeous garden too. We will be back!

This is a lovely pub in beautiful countryside. One of the reasons I booked it was because of good breakfast reviews. When we got there the girl said breakfast was served between 8.30-10.30. I said we had to leave at 8. We were offered a pack lunch, which we didn’t want. When I went to return the key in the morning at just gone 8 people were having breakfast! I felt a bit cheated! But because I was in a rush and literally going out of the door I didn’t query it. Probably miscommunication.

Lovely Historic Tavern as a comfortable and welcoming Rural Inn. This was a rustic, very old home with small rooms in which the old timbers show through the ceiling and the floor is a little uneven — perfectly charming. Mansfield Park of Jane Austen game came from this very area. But, the bathrooms are clean with modern toilets and showers. The food was good. The owners are kind and welcoming.

Run by exceptionally nice people. Rooms and hospitality were faultless. We lucked out with this random booking. Thanks for a great stay.

Lovely place, a lot better since the refurb a month ago, Brian was so hospitable and knowledgeable about the history of the area and the food was lovely too! Would recommend for anyone wanting a good village pub :)

We stayed for 1 night as we planned to visit the bluebells at Lodge Hill Bluebells, whilst the weather was not great, we found the pub to be a great place to stay, very friendly staff, our evening meal was delicious, the room had a large comfy bed and a spa bath, and our little Pug dog was made welcome lots of choice for breakfast hope to stay again as the bluebells were stunning even on a rainy day.

Stayed here for 2 nights as going to a family funeral. Brian was amazing, he could not do enough to help, he went above and beyond any hotelier we have come across. The food was absolutely delicious and all fresh produce. He even gave us a lift to the funeral and then picked us up after the wake so my Fiance could have a drink. 5 stars ts not enough!

Can't say enough about this pub/restaurant/hotel absolutely a must if your in the area and want excellent food and drink as well as a very comfortable bed. The pub is run by a lovely family who are very welcoming and nothing seems a problem. Log burning fire gives the quaint English countryside pub feel. The food is superb one of the best steaks I have had and all produce sourced from less than 10 miles away. The breakfast are in a league of their own! Highly recommend this pub one you will never forget and always go back to when in the area.

I recommend this country pub. My friend and I had a lovely stay, we had to make a speedy late booking and the hosts could not have been more obliging and were flexible in meeting our needs. Food was really good, accommodation was comfortable and good for the price we paid.
