Lovely food! lamb rump plate a bit sparce and strangely presented making it look smaller on the plate. excellent service and lovely building. Definitely going back.

Just back from a weekend of magic, celebrating our daughter and new son-in-laws wedding with you. Cannot praise everyone involved highly enough, each and every member of staff were fantastic. We felt so relaxed and have made so many happy memories, thank you so much. Everyone attending commented on how lovely the setting was and the food was amazing too.

Must be the best pub for miles around, the food, service and decor all great, big car park, this is a very big pub and hotel. Tastefully decorated, I had fish with triple cut chips and my friend had a vegetarian wellington, we loved the food and the menu is very varied from pub classics to bistro type food — plenty of choice to satisfied everyone. What more can one say! "I'll be back. "

The decor and atmosphere at this pub is lovely — shabby chic. The staff were very welcoming. We loved the food and would definitely visit again.

This is us 3 yrs on from my Mum's 90th birthdsy that we had here… that was 'awesome' on the day and so far so good today however I'll finish review after Sunday Roast as drinks are always pretty standard. Still very good 'Service'. Tony, Karen & Mumi.

The food was lovely, best meal out in a long time, had mains and puds which were all amazing. Good choice of drinks and very friendly and accomdating staff. Looking forward to going back soon!

Great food reasonable prices good parking facilities great location and friendly staff … looks reasonably easy for wheelchair access but let down by toilet access for wheelchairs other wise would have given 5 stars.

Stayed here 1 night on business, lovely old gothic style building with great views over the Wraxall countryside. Check in easy, rooms very large and appointed with lovely old furniture, lots of glass area and high ceilings. Spacious area to eat or drink, I didn't eat hear this time but what I saw come from the kitchen looked very tempting. Will stay again.

Great Sunday lunch — super helpful as well, accommodating a large gang of us plus kids after a walk around the Giant Redwood at Ashton Hill.

Great place staff very friendly even under pressure they kept calm and professional It was mother's day food was great and tasty have booked for a large party Venue was clean and pleasant would high recommend.

Breakfast meeting. Only people in which meant private and quick service but no atmosphere. I had avocado salmon and poached eggs on toast. Small portion and avocado was very chilled guacamole. At best it is ok but not going to rush back. It is one of the very few places open at 8am and pleasant environment.

We visited here for an early afternoon meal. Was very nicely decorated. The local Bristol beer was top notch and my wife enjoyed her wine. However we weren't overly impressed by the food. For the price we expected better. If we go back it will be for a drink only.

Lovely venue and good food…… however, do not ask for a piece of bread with your meal! 6 of us visited the Battle Axes for a family birthday, we were all impressed with the atmosphere, service and the quality of the food, the only thing that was a bit of a surprise was when one of our party asked if he could have a bread roll with his meal, the waitress returned from the kitchen to say that there were no rolls but we could have a slice of bread however they would need to charge for it!

Had a meal here once and have popped in for a quick beer while walking round the grounds at Tyntesfield. The food is good, but the welcome was unfriendly and cold compared to many locally. The waiter accidentally knocked my beer over, then charged for a replacement after saying he wouldn't. I never went back after that.

Called in for some food before heading to the airport. An outstanding team of young, friendly staff. The food was also brilliant. Being a frequent flyer between Dublin and Bristol, I will definitely go back.

We were here for a 60th birthday celebration and the party was in the room at the back. Fantastic venue and buffet was excellent not your everyday sausage rolls and sandwiches, great choices of fine meats, cheese and salads with fresh bread. Music was great and staff very friendly. Would recommend.

Had Sunday lunch. Friendly staff, really tasty food (burgers and roasts) and good kids menu. Loads of space inside and would be a good place for big groups.

Visited here for a wedding reception and the place was fabulous. The staff are friendly, the views are stunning, the beer is spot on and the food was to die for. I'd recommend to anyone who is either passing by or looking for a longer stop.

Brilliant stay, 4 nights bed & breakfast Lovely room 5. Bathroom is wonderful :) Bed a little harder than I like though. Food is first class and the staff are great… a really good team We will return. All round excellent pub.

I always enjoy the Battle axes, for its atmosohere and food. We had a good Sunday lunch yesterday. The creme brûlée did not have a crispy top though and still soft. My mother is elderley so found the steps hard down to the toilet. Is there any way a toilet can be provided for people in this situation. I appreciate it's a listed building but there were three people struggling on Sunday. All in all though we enjoy it with you.

Bit over priced for a small slab of meat and 6 chips. Our main was a bit cold. The building is well kept. Has a 5 food hygiene rating.

Great Sunday roast in a great building… not too expensive either!

If you've not been here for food, go now as it's great and you won't regret it. We've frequented this gem of a place quite a few times in the last three years and every time have been impressed with the food and service. It's a great place to bring the family and kick back and be spoilt. It's usually fully booked on the weekend so reserve in advance if you fancy one of their amazing roast dinners, if you're planning on going mid-week there's usually ample of space. Their specials board is always intriguing and I recommend the burger with handcut fries. The prices are reasonable and you get great food with a lovely warm welcome from the staff. We will frequent The Battleaxes again! Thank you.

Came here for a party in the shindig and stayed in room 5. Absolutely fantastic place, couldn't recommend it enough. I didn't eat, but family did and said it was delicious. Great whiskey to offer. The rooms are huge. Really friendly staff, cannot wait until my next visit!

The best roast dinner I've had for a while!

Dog owners beware! This is not as dog friendly as it used to be! You can only eat in the bar area where there is only one proper dining table. Shame as it is a nice pub otherwise.

Lovely pub and restaurant. The food is always good, and they are very accommodating of my gluten intolerance. Good Ale and coffee. We like the Shindig snug down stairs.

Worth every penny. Decent portions and very well presented. Staff friendly. Could do with a disabled toilet.

I took the family there for Sunday lunch yesterday and I have to say I was very dissapointed with it. The setting is great and the decor is really nice. The menu was good too, but it was obvious right away that they were terribly understaffed and the waitresses looked very stressed and almost close to tears! Needless to say it took ages to take our order and the service throughout was pretty non existent, we had to try and grab their attention on numerous occasions and had long waits in between courses. The starters were OK, nothing special though, and the Pumpkin soup was rather bland. The mains were massively dissapointing. 2 out of the 5 dishes were cold and had to be sent back. They came back 15 minutes later hotter but the portion sizes were strangely a lot smaller. It was good they didn’t just stick it in the microwave but it later became apparent that they were running low on stock. The beef dishes didn’t come with Yorkshire pudding as advertised. We weren’t informed of this and when I noticed halfway through my meal and when asked they said they had run out! A real shame as the Beef was actually a really nice cut, but the potatoes were very dry. We ordered icecream for our little one and that took 30 minutes to arrive, it doesn’t take long to put 3 scoops on a dish, so no excuse for this I’m afraid. When I got the bill I was expecting them to apologise for the long waits, the lack of Yorkshire and the cold dishes but they didn’t.
