I would have once but tonight they disappointed me. Wife was on a diet so she ordered a starter. My daughter and I ordered a starter and a main each. We were then told my wife could not have an alcoholic drink as she wasn't having a substantial meal surely this is not how Boris intended this law to be interpreted. Ended up at an Ember Inn much more understanding.

We had out wedding booked here, but due to the virus we only had a ceremony. The staff were great helping us sort out a new date for next year for our reception. Thank you to Darren and Sara for all your hard work. Looking forward to next year.

We had breakfast here today for the first time and it was lovely, reasonably priced, nice and hot and lots of choice.

We had a lovely lady called Jasmine serve us, who made our evening, by being so polite and professional and going above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our meal.

Got married there & had the best day, food and all service was excellent & couldn't of done more for us, so a 5 star from my husband & myself.

Absolute disgrace. We had a table booked for 7.30 and did not get our food till almost 9pm. The waiter was a top bloke, kept apologising to us which was good. Other tables also had issues with the food and the time it all took, it was blamed on a wedding party. If that was the case either put more staff on or don’t book people in if you can’t cope. We were out in stones for a reason, and had other plans that were delayed due to the lateness of everything.

Dirty rooms, really tired and run-down, certainly not worth the £107 cost. Staff are hopeless. Actually slept in my car rather than kip in a filthy doss-house. Took payment twice as well.

Lovely old coaching Inn, full of history and character. Booked function room, staff were helpful and accomodating to my needs and requirements. Food was fantastic. Had family stay in accommodation too. Great place.

We attended a friends wedding and were pleasantly surprised with the venue. The food was good and the staff were nice and well organised. Bonus was being able to sit in the courtyard and enjoy the nice weather.

Got married here at Christmas was amazing staff and venue were great especially angie and Darren went back today had a lovely Sunday roast.

Food was so atrocious — wait time shocking — we went home hungry and even the staff agree that the food is terrible — would not recommend.

Was a bridesmaid at my aunts wedding on Sunday (30/12/18) and it was the most lovely day. Staff were so friendly and helpful to us, they provided an extra space and a high chair on our table for my 6 month old. The lamb shank was delicious. We stayed in a family room that was lovely and clean. The next morning when we got to breakfast the same lady who sorted the high chair out the evening before got us another one. We had a cooked breakfast, which was very tasty and our children had toast and coco pops, which they also enjoyed. All in all we had a fantastic time and I was so thrilled to be a small part of such an amazing day. Thank you to the cock hotel for hosting such a beautiful wedding.

We arrived and ordered 3 aperol spritz — the bar staff did'nt think they had 'any' although clearly showing on their drinks menu! Finally discovered a bottle of 'aperol' but started to serve in small champagne flutes! After ordering something "less challenging" we ordered food. There was quite a long wait, due I think to the fact that they were also catering for a wedding in the courtyard. However, when the meals did finally arrive, they were very good. It seemed that perhaps the regular staff were dealing with the wedding and the bar staff were novices.

Our meals took quiet a while to come and when it did the female who served us initially printed the wrong number into till so our meals were taken from one end of the yard to the other : ( (which, he passed us so to take to wrong table. I would not recommend the place as a hotel to stay the night in, but as a bar and restaurant and occasion venue. We stayed there as a hotel so that is what my rating as based on. The place is cute and the breakfast is good. If you like to party all night and smoke then this is a great hotel. If you want to sleep in peace and quiet, after a reasonable hour, with fresh air, then not so much. We had to switch rooms because the room we were originally assigned was filthy. Mold on the window and curtains, spiders and spider webs all over the bathroom, and the silverware and cups left for us were also dirty. We didn't bother to check the sheets. The room we were moved to was cleaner, but there were no windows and no air flow except the doors that opened to a public courtyard where people smoked and had parties. Luckily we grabbed a fan from the previous room, otherwise the conditions in the room would have been unbearable. The drains in the sink and shower drain very slowly, and even with the bathroom vent fan on, the room filled with hot, damp air that didn't go anywhere after a shower. At night the room was essentially a closet in a karaoke bar — noisy and smoky, even with the doors closed. As a bar I would recommend stopping by; as a hotel you're better off anywhere else.

Arrived and due to a wedding, we were given a room with a 'small double' which might have been an alright sized bed if it were not in the mid 20's and very humid. This along with the fact that there were only 2 plugs in the room, (one necessary for the fan which was the only cooling we had) started our experience off a bit disappointed. If it had not been so warm, we probably wouldn't have had any problems but the room was not well equipped for hot weather, it felt muggy, being on the top floor, very warm and being crammed into a small bed next to someone when you are already hot is not great. My partner then discovered some exposed wiring in the room for the phone line and when we brought this to the hotels attention they were very friendly and moved us to a different room as this was considered a health and safety hazard. Our new room was far nicer being cooler due to being lover down, having a full sized double bed and also had many more plug sockets. The only issue with this room was there was no Wi-Fi in the room, not the end of the world but not ideal. Overall the staff and service was good but the rooms need some work. The meal we had in the restaurant was also okay and we were happy with the food and service we got.

Although the reason for going to the function room was sad, the room looked lovely. The food was really delicious along with the friendly and attentive service at the bar. Would highly recommend, only downside would be the issue of parking but this is to be expected in Stony Stratford.

Good place to eat or grab a few drinks. They were very good in accommodating our big group. Shame they ran out of tonic water on a Friday evening.

I have never written a hotel review in my life, eventhough I stayed in many in the past few years. At first glance the room looks very romantic and antique. At second glance, you 'll notice the decay. I kid you not! I noticed that there was a lot of noise coming through the door. At further inspection I saw a huge wedge size gap between the door and the floor. Anybody walking in the hallway or standing in front of the door will hear the slightest whisper. So far for privacy. What the hell happened to that door? It looks like it has been pried open before. Anyway, pretty much everything is chipping and peeling in the hotel. I understand that this is a very old house, but fixing a broken door and investing in some paint is not too much to ask for. Above all, the carpet has a gritty feel to it when walking barefoot. Overall questionable cleanliness. I 'll address this at my checkout. I m not happy.

An old hotel / bar that caters for guests staying at the hotel and those seeking to unwind after a hard day's work. Can get extremely busy when there is a wedding reception (which seem very cheap looking at the hotel's advertising). Decent food and polite and friendly bar staff.

Being local I only visit for a drink and meal. I am not going there for meals now as the standard has been declining over recent months. I went in this Monday (26 March) at 10.40 for an after theatre drink as I have done many times in the past. I was refused service and told the bar was closed although the barperson (maid) was leaning on the bar chatting to a person I later learned was the Manager. There were a few other drinkers also in. I have always known closing time at this place for non hotel residents as 11 pm weekdays. I reminded them of this but they stared at me blankly! This is a further example of declining service. I went across the road to The Whitehorse where I received a warm friendly welcome and it continued to serve drinks until 11.45.

I want to thank the staff at The Cock for an absolutely fabulous night. Had my Husband's 60th Birthday there. Darren the Manager, Staff Martina & Joe could not have been more helpful with setting up and looking after us all evening. Food for all 30 of us was really fabulous I highly recommend. Thanks also to Jon and Carl could not have been any better was perfect. Thanks Laraine.

Nice Pub, nice staff. Food isn't amazing but the lunch menu allows you to grab some good value food.

First class lunchtime menu @£4.99 and I can recommend the all day breakfast and fish finger sandwich. Must be very big fish to have fingers the size of what is used in the sandwiches. Great deserts too. I'll be back for more soon.

Great pub, not so great restaurant. The best hotel to stay in stony Stratford for value and quality, we always put visiting clients here, not much reward for loyalty though.

I love the Cock, sure it was rammed in there, but I didn't care as I was fairly well lubricated. It can get up to 4 men deep at the bar so make sure to stand proud or else you could find yourself stretched whilst seeking your juice of choice. The Karaoke was very hard on the ears mind, and if I could make one suggestion it would be for the staff to ease customers in gently rather than forcing too much on them all at once. On the hole the cock feels good, and I'd advise anyone to slip inside for a new experience — don't stay inside too long as you could get messy!

One of the best Hotels ever, Very friendly staff and great Landlord John. Very comfortable rooms especially the beds. Loads of hot water as we like a bath. Food fantastic good choices. Would strongly recommend a stay here. Been few times. As we have friends down here.

Nice place to eat or drink. One of the two hotels on this high street that form the original cock and bull story. Food portions of good sized could do with being a bit warmer ie Yorkshire pud. Staff are friendly and busy but when they are busy you have a wait for food. We waited 45 mins after ordering.

Stayed at the Hotel last night. If you want a modern hotel this is not for you. The Hotel is old, it desperately needs an overhaul, it is tired. This is a typical old Hotel it has steep stairs and nooks and crannies. I loved my stay there, the room was clean and had character. Yes it could have done with a paint, the furniture was antique but was great. The hairdryer had lots of power (not a cheap one) The bed was so comfortable, the staff were lovely, we were served a lovely breakfast from a very sweet girl. The people in the pub were a bit rowdy which is not the Hotels fault, they were noisy leaving but we never heard them when they were in the pub. I loved this place and will definitely visit again.

I just wanted to say how great our Sunday lunch was today. The staff were lovely and welcoming and the food was great value for money. We had beef roast dinners — the portions were great, the beef tender and the Yorkshire puddings were fab. I would definitely recommend going for Sunday lunch.

A decent hotel for a short stay that includes breakfast in the morning. There is also parking available if your driving and it's a good location, right on the high street.

I have been to the Cock before and had many great experiences. This time, however, we were a large Christmas party with pre ordered food choices. Our starters arrived very late, but unfortunately nothing else did. Staff did offer some free drinks as compensation and a refund was achieved but it was a shame no food was served.

Just been to an xmas party night here. We sat down to eat at 7.30 & were eating our mains at 10.10! Food was so slow, some of our party had finished eating before others were served. We left at 11 and dessert plates hadn't yet been cleared. There was one member of staff behind the bar in the marquee suite and he also helped waiting on tables. They clearly have management issues, our booking (which was for 60) has been in heir books since the summer. All food was pre ordered. Such a shame as it's a lovely place.

Great menu choice with space to cater for large parties and weddings with a central courtyard. Good for Sunday lunch or a relaxed pub atmosphere. If in a large party steaks seem to be overcooked so order it rarer then you would usually request.

I’ve just recently moved to the area with my fiancée and we decided to try this place for food on the recommendation of someone, and we don’t regret it. The food and service were beyond reproach and we will certainly be eating there again.

Went in for food with a party of 10, our waitress was polite and helpful. The food good and reasonably priced.

The 2 stars are for the waiting staff and drinks. The amazing customer service from them and their patience whilst having to endure what they do. I get it it was a busy Sunday and was fully booked, it's hard. But these 2 girls were amazing. The manager though… or deputy manager… he was rude and obnoxious to his staff and in front of guests as well (including me and my friends) sorry but there is no need for it. He wasn't just a little mean and instead of showing the girls how to do it right just got angry and mean. I'm sorry but no wonder I've just seen job vacancies for this place… I wouldn't stay if I was being treated like that. He was not a nice man at all. Treat you're staff better and don't be so rude to customers as well, they only wanted to know if you had a table!

Lovely food & good selection of beers in this historic coaching inn situated on the old A5 Watling Street, which was the old Roman road & for centuries after, remained the main road North/South of England — ('Cock & Bull' stories originate from here & the nearby 'Bull Inn' where travellers would exchange stories from 'up north' & 'down south' which would get exaggerated). 'The Cock Hotel' is also great for wedding receptions etc. (held in their private function rooms).

Booked for 70th birthday party and the event went without a hitch. Service was excellent and we were well looked after on the day by Darren who went out of his way to help with the little details. Thanks.

Really nice clean place, nice friendly staff great setup with central outdoor space for smokers or non smokers. Excellent room. Very comfortable bed. Nice room facilities great food options. Not to far from Milton Keynes central station. Would definitely recommend.

Great hotel! We were greeted very pleasantly upon arrival and the room was lovely. We stayed for just the one night and ate dinner and breakfast there. Dinner was delicious and not expensive at all! The waitress and waiters were very polite and made us feel very welcome. The breakfast was nice but I was slightly disappointed. There was not a lot of selection on the breakfast buffet and when asked if they were topping anything up they said no. The waitress who served us was rather abrupt as well and not what we had experienced before with the others. I would say I definitely preferred dinner to breakfast. However overall we had a very pleasant stay and would stay again in this hotel!

Room was pleasant and clean. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was excellent. Unfortunately, the room overlooked the courtyard which was occupied by loud argumentative people drinking in the hotels bar until past 1am.

Went for a Christmas party and although the food was nice, two of my three courses were lukewarm at best. There only seemed to be 3 people serving the whole room (I would estimate at 70 people) and I'm not sure if there was more than one chef but the dishes were all presented differently (some had lots of sauce but some had just enough to cover the serving of 3 button mushrooms! ) The seats and neighbouring tables were very close — we could not move our chairs to get in or out. Even the crackers were awfully cheap. Some did not have a gift and the hats ripped as you took them out of the cracker. The pub part of the building was nicely decorated but the floor was sticky. It was only 7pm! I will not be making any plans to come back to this pub in the future.

The Cock hotel is situated in an ideal location for anyone wanting to travel in to Milton Keynes while keeping the idyllic rural town feel. Rooms are slightly smaller but are very clean and have all the requirements expected. The downstairs pub has a fantastic atmosphere with an extensive and delicious menu.

Upon entering the pub I asked to verify my booking. There had been some confusion between the booking system for the hotel and restaurant — apparently we may have booked through the hotel, however there was only one telephone number on the website. This was quickly resolved due to the fact there were only two bookings for the evening and as such, availability was in abundance. In any case, we were directed to the bar area wherein we indulged ourselves with a few pre-dinner drinks. After being seated we waited approximately 15 minutes before any order was taken. Having ordered two sharing platters, it wasn't until a further10 minutes later that we were informed one of these sharing platters was unavailable. This should have been made clear when the menus were provided. This just compounded our view of poor management. The sharing platter consisted of two small pieces of cold white baguette with a couple of slabs of butter on the side, a bowl of olives, salami meats and stand-alone cherry tomatoes. The quality was poor and any effort to present the dish well was evidently lacking. The cherry tomatoes should have at least been diced in half and complemented by even a conservative n umber of salad leaves. The bread should have been warmed. Whilst the olives were pitted, they were unforgivingly crunchy.

Great venue to have a wedding, inexpensive, it has that country feel about it. Excellent.

This weekend we went to The Cock hotel for a snack, we ended up paying £16. £4.25 of this was for five tiny breaded mushrooms, we also spent £3 on the oiliest onion rings I've even seen (that they forgot to bring until we reminded them). Never again.

A Traditional 15th Century coaching Inn with modern rooms and amenities. The rooms are tastefully decorated with a large flat screen TV. The staff are helpful and friendly. For breakfast there is a wide range of cold and hot choices. The service is quick. The dinner menu has a wide selection to suit most peoples taste, very good value and tasty. I have enjoyed several stays at the Cock over the last few months. It's definitely my first choice of place to stay. Word must of got round so book early. There is free Wi-Fi provided by The Cloud in the main parts of the hotel. The reception can be a little patchy from your room.
