Picked up a takeaway roast dinner today… wow! The trio of meats and all the trimmings were absolutely amazing. The re-heating instructions were clear and the food tasted delicious. Such an easy process from start to finish, greeted with a smile on pick-up and virtually no washing up! Really generous portion sizes and great value for money. The luxury of a professionally cooked meal in your own home! Couldn’t recommend strongly enough! Didn’t have room for my chocolate brownie earlier, so looking forward to that later.

You're always guaranteed an excellent service at The Royal Oak in Long Whatton. We dine here every couple of weeks, or so. Sometimes more often! Staying overnight a couple or three times a year too… Despite, only living 6 miles away! The Friday night 'Date Night' package is fabulous for a special occasion or just an evening/weekend away to perk you up following a tough time or long week at work. You definitely get much more of a great deal than the price tag suggests! We've visited lots of establishments across the country which offer similar, but they are either far more expensive, or just don't get it right. Back to our most recent visit — we absolutely loved our meals and overnight stay for our wedding anniversary on the 30th October We particularly like room 12, because of the dual aspect windows which allow you to look out onto the lawn & field beyond. As well as, the immediate frontage of your room (as with their others) where your vehicle is parked — important for petrolheads, motorcyclists & owners of working dogs and the like. It is at the far end of the car park, but not very far at all to walk — easily accessible for most. The extractor fan in the shower room of room 12 is operated by a separate switch to the light switch pull cord. Which is always a bonus, because you can switch the extractor on & off accordingly. Rather than having it running unwantedly during night time toilet trips… it's the little things that add to the whole experience.

We went to the Royal Oak last week for the eat in help out deal. The meal was fantastic. There was a good choice on the 3 course menu and all for £10. It was amazing value but also delicious food. The service was also perfect and really well organised.

Thanks to the management and staff, especially Jack, for great service a wonderful tasty lunch!

I organised a family get together of 12 meeting up for lunch today. The receptionist was extremely helpful arranging for us to be together in a quiet area of the pub. The pub itself has a great atmosphere and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked so full marks to the chef. When one of our party had the misfortune to fall over on the way out (she was a designated driver therefore sober), again the staff were helpful and brought ice, napkins and a chair to help her recover. Highly recommended.

Lovely country pub, serving beautiful plates of food. A really amazing find! We had the Sunday roast and it was perfect, as was the delicious dessert. Service was polite and friendly and the surroundings are welcoming. We will definitely be back to sample more of the menu. They also do a great kids menu too. Highly recommend this place to everyone!

Nice little bar. Food in the bar and restaurant are from the same menu. Food was good. Accommodation is in out buildings. Some near the main building look old. But all a well decorated and comfortable.

We are big fans of the Royal Oak. The location, decor, people and most importantly, the food, are all superb! We travel a 40 mile round trip from home to this great gastro pub. There are a number of fantastic looking modern rooms for rent in the grounds that are decorated to a very high standard. We’ve never stayed over but we are seriously thinking making about it. … We can’t praise this place enough. Love it!

Stunning pub, the rooms were extremely clean, comfortable and modern. Would highly recommend, not too much of a fan of the Breakfast, however it was free and included. So can't complain. Over all amazing stay.

After a very pleasant evening with excellent food and friendly and helpful staff, we found that our taxi could not make it through the snow to take us to back Coalville. The staff were reassuring and tried hard to obtain an alternative taxi but unfortunately the weather had become much worse during the time taken to have our meal and it was impossible to find anyone. Very fortunately for us the manager, Alex, offered to take us in his 4 wheel drive vehicle. The journey was fairly uneventful thanks to his excellent and careful driving. It was a very kind and generous gesture which we all greatly appreciated. We hope Alex had a safe journey back. We would certainly recommend the Royal Oak, their staff and in particular, Alex, who certainly exceeded the call of duty in getting us all safely home. Ross, Alan, Kath and John.

Went along today and as always the food was absolutely delicious, the staff were great and I will continue to come here as my favourite place to eat. Highly recommend.

Not a bad place if your in a bind and need a bed usually have rooms free and the staff are always polite.

Lovely stay in a beautiful area. We were a bit unsure about the stay due to some previous reviews but once we arrived we had a lovely, peaceful time! It was a very quiet time of the year and our room was clean, big and had the bath jacuzzi which was amazing! We had no noise problems from any other guests or from the pub attached. There was noise from what we think is a water boiler, which we could hear in room 5. This has been mentioned in previous reviews but we didn't find it affected our sleep or relaxation in the room. We would stay again just for the room and the breakfast was lovely too.

Once again we have experienced excellent service and wonderful food. First time seated in the bar area and we enjoyed the atmosphere just as much.

Very nice clean hotel but shower was dripping all night and no thermostat to control room temperature. Apart from that very spacious rooms friendly staff and great breakfast.

Nice place, great for drinking and having meals. Went during the lead up to Christmas and so was quite busy. Meals were extremely hot, suspect microwaved so take it steady for first few mouthfuls.

This is a lovely old hotel, but like so many of these once proud buildings, with minimal upkeep and maintenance, the building is looking shabby and tatty and has lost its once great luster, nothing that some TLC wouldn't put right. The staff are all very friendly and happy to help. Our room was modern and comfortable and very happy with it. Breakfast in the morning was your typical help-your-self full English, with cereals, juices toast and yogurt all available. The Royal Hotel is also in a great location for Ashby-de-la-Zouch's main high street and shops, a pretty place, well worth a visit.

You know what, this place is fine. The staff are genuinely lovely, the building is nice… It looks a bit tired in places like the restaurant but I think they're having a bit of a refurb over the winter so it's hardly a deal breaker.

Even though the staff are really friendly, polite and the breakfast is great this hotel needs a proper refurb it cannot be called a three star it’s so old and tatty it’s unbelievable, for us we never paid the full price and thank goodness shower cubicles a tiny shower curtain sticks to you it’s that small and grubby the whole place is just tatty tatty tatty, Bedsheets were very clean though, the carpets are stained everywhere, tatty paint work, the little room of the bar has got leather seats are ripped to shreds you wouldn’t even want to sit on them and we didn’t, please someone spend money on this hotel as it could look spectacular — it’s a tired old hotel!

Great location, clean modern rooms. Fabulous staff, helpful, pleasant, faultless. Breakfast was not, eggs cooked to order, good value for money. Only gripe which is small, room one must have a boiler just outside the building, during the night you could here the pump going through its cycle, also small green light over door was annoying. These points were brought to staff attention and are being addressed according to the lady we spoke to. Otherwise perfect stay. Highly recommended.

Acceptable B&B hotel. Old hotel, slightly faded from its best. But this is refected in the bargain price. Excelent breakfast. Easy parking.

What a beautiful little gem of a pub. My boyfriend booked this for us. We arrived here yesterday and got a very warm welcome by all staff. It was beautifully decorated and our room was perfect right down to the bed, duvet and pillows, it was all so snuggly, we had the best night sleep ever, although that might be down to the luxurious jacuzzi bath I had beforehand, I had three of these in under 24 hours!. It also had a lovely large walk in shower, fresh towels and toiletrie…s. The room had everything you needed and even a coffee machine, as well as tea coffee and hot chocolate and biscuits and bottled water. Also had a fridge! The breakfast was wonderful and you could choose from cereals, fruit, pastries to a full english… very scrumptious indeed I was pretty gutted we only stayed one night here. Definitely would go back without a doubt.

Could not fault the friendly lady at Reception who opened up the bar for me whilst I waited for my car to be valeted this afternoon but, boy oh boy!, does the old place need some money spending on it. Sad really.

Fabulous Hotel. Each room has the feel of a little cottage as they are set apart from the restaurant/ pub. More like a one room bungalow with an en suite! Very tastefully decorated. Set in a charming little village. Lovely food. I'm a vegetarian and didn't find it a problem choosing my food! Fine dining at its best both for the breakfast and evening menus. Didn't sample the lunch menu as we were out exploring the countryside. Very friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely recommend this delightful Hotel/ Restaurant / Pub. Come check it out!

This was our third stay here. We come back because they are friendly and professional and both the rooms and food is excellent. If you need to stay near Nottingham this is recommended.

Eating and drinking at the Royal Oak is always a delight. Great food combined with a good real ale selection makes for a perfect evening. Their set menu at lunch/early evening is great value. Highlights include the fish and chips and their burger. Great stuff.

Fantastic quality food, and while at the higher end of the pub price bracket, it is, for the level of service, well priced. Staff are excellent and friendly, and a good choice of drinks are available, including thatchers gold and tribute on draft. Rooms are of high standard, with great sized showered and comfy beds. All round a lovely location if you're looking to stay in the area. Highly recommended from someone who travels a lot.

Charming Hotel from a different age. Lovely staff. Good bar. No restaurant available except for breakfasts. Worth the cost.

Room wasn't as good as expected. The shower was rubbish but the staff were lovely and friendly. Very easy to find and good location as shops are very close by.

Fab evening, good food and pleasant staff!

Stayed here for one night for a friend's wedding. Clean comfortable room with plenty of amenities including a hairdryer, iron, fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. Comfortable bed and linens. Breakfast in the morning was fresh and plentiful with good options and great service. I fully recommended the royal oak if you are needing a place to stay in the Midlands area.

Went for lunch with work colleagues. Food was pre-ordered because of the size of the group, and as a result was served very quickly. Food was good, baked camembert is fantastic.

Food was unbelievably good, lovely atmosphere, attentive service… You have got to eat here!

The Royal Oak manages to combine the modern gastropub with a traditional "local" feel. You can pop in for an excellent pint of Tribute or a number of other real ales without feeling out of place among the dining customers. If you choose to eat the food is always good and although not cheap is great value for money. A more limited "Early Doors" menu is even better value and leaves the rest of the evening free for other things! Staff and customers are friendly and the atmosphere reflects this. A real asset for our village and others in the area.

Amazing food and great beers.

This pub has a great atmosphere. A combination of good real ales and a varied and high quality food menu makes it a regular stop off. The service is usually excellent and friendly. My only complaint is that the chef seems obsesses with sweet Chilli Sauce. Recently I had a Spanish inspired chorizo and chicken dish ruined by the addition of loads of this sweet sticky Sauce which had no place being there!

The food here is always the best quality with a really good early bird menu. This is a great way to give them a try. The atmosphere in the bar is always good The service is also good. The staff are knowledgeable and attentive.

Absolute gem, after reading various other rave reviews it didn't fail to disappoint! Nice and secluded but not far from motorway, gorgeous food.
