The Black Pig Public House Hotel

We stayed here overnight with friends a couple of weeks ago. Friendly and helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble. We stayed for dinner and breakfast which were both superb and large portions! The atmosphere was cozy and lovely with fairy lights, nice fireplace, beams etc. Lovely country pub! There wasn’t any music or TV screens in the bar area, which wasn’t an issue for us. The rooms were pretty good, ours had a noise from the fan in the kitchen which did not bother us at all as it was switched off by 8pm and we were out anyway. We were warned about it by the very apologetic staff member that showed us to our room but honestly it was absolutely fine. Our friends room had a low ceiling in places which I’m glad we didn’t get as my partner is 6’3”. Rooms we’re clean, lovely bathroom and shower. Nice little toiletries and tea/coffee etc. Free Wi-Fi. We took a cab in to sandwich which was £15, nice place to visit if you want some livelier bars etc. Overall good value for money, would stay again and recommend. Ps lovely garden area!

Lovely lunch at the Black Pig in Staple today. Good food and friendly staff along with a good atmosphere. I would recommend this pub and will definitely go there again.

Sunday dinner was lovely, very dog friendly too. Will definitely be back!

The Black Pig is a wonderful atmospheric pub, built in 1588. It is also a key player in local life, even providing a small shop to serve the local community. Excellent food and great beer.

Amazing staff service and food. We eat here regularly when we have a long day at the yard. Hunters chicken baguette and chip 🥰😍 Reece and the team are very welcoming we will be eating here always.

Ordered Sunday lunch today. Was absolutely delicious. Have to say I’m a bit stuffed great portion size. One daughter loved the proper chicken nuggets so big thumbs up from her.

Went to The Black Pig for lunch yesterday and it was so yummy! As always Reece did a fab job in the kitchen and the service was excellent. This is my first meal out in what seems like forever due to lockdown and it was so worth it. Cannot wait to go back.

Wow what a meal, so big even bear got a full roast dinner. I called up at 1pm about having a roast and I was told by the guy yeah they can do. I went and picked it up it was packaged perfectly for the drive back. Got home and I was shocked at how much food we were given! Such a big meal for such a small cost! Bear was most pleased with his roast to. Thank you so much we did get a desert to but haven’t the room to manage it yet so that will be this evening. Great service, great hot fresh food. Such a big variety of trimmings. Honestly best takeaway roast ever x

Proper pub with proper pub grub. No pretentious expensive food. Good portion sizes served in a warm cosy pub. Exposed beams and fire place. Middle of nowhere pub that's definitely worth a visit.

Had a lovely lunch in the large beer garden. Lamb Koftas were delicious, as was the burger my son had. Friendly & welcoming. Highly recommended.

Delightful. Good food, service and drinks selection. My wife and I enjoyed the look and ambience. I've starred it on Google Maps and would be more than happy to return when I am in the area again.

We have just spent 4 nights here. We where made very welcome by Billy and the rest of his staff. The pub is typical English country village dating from way back. Very quaint peaceful and relaxing place. The locals where also very friendly and welcoming. Our room was lovely and clean with all the usual tea coffee etc. I have only 1 small complaint and its not a complaint more an observation the grout could do with renewing in the shower. Breakfast was yummy and lots to choose from. We enjoyed the time we spent at the black pig and would, recommend not too expensive good value for the money.

Went for Sunday lunch. It was cooked to perfection. Banoffie pie for pud was gorgeous. Staff were friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend.

Absolutely delicious homemade food, very warm homely atmosphere, a green comfy beer garden. 4 ales on tap today. Well priced as well. Definitely recommend!

Don't know what Tamara is on about as we had delicious food and wine. We were served by a lovely lady and will definitely be coming back again. Tried all near to Nonington and the Black pig is the best.

Very disappointed. Uninspiring menu — curry being the most interesting thing on the menu. If I had wanted a curry I would have gone to an Indian restaurant, and would have had a better one. Saturday night and the place was all but deserted. Such a pity as The Black Pig used to have such a great reputation. I would not go back.

Lovely food and reasonably priced. Unfortunately staff were most unfriendly and for that reason we won't be wanting to eat there again. Changes hands quite frequently, so maybe will retry in the future.

Proper old English pub, have a lot of specials on the board and plenty of really nice ales on tap. Had a lovely quiet lunch here will definitely be back for more!

Went when previous owners were there and it was very good, New owners not so, maybe they just need more time, will try again in the summer.

Had a beautiful Sunday roast here yesterday. The food was lovely, large portions to! And a great selection of other dishes on the menu including various vegetarian dishes! Friendly service and all round gorgeous country pub! Will definitely be back.

Stayed in family room clean and comfortable, bathroom needs attention mould on tiles and woodwork. Breakfast option good, buffet option poor. Service by young staff poor needs attention. For a room that price needs a little more input.

Lacked atmosphere. All front of house staff were very young, although very nice and professional. No landlord or landlady to welcome us. May as well have been a chain restaurant. Will lose custom very quickly if they don't get hospitality sorted.

Pub is beautiful, grounds are stunning. In the middle of nowhere. Worth the drive. Fodd was fabulous right portion size and great choices. Definitely coming back.

The Pub itself is great and the food is just amazing. Place tends to be packed with locals in the evening so make a reservation in advance. Giving it 4/5 as the B&B is good but not great.

A great find, variety of well looked after ales and probably the best pub fayre I have ever had, the portion sizes are very generous and the steak was perfectly blue. If you like cosy, off the beaten track, old country pubs then you will not be disappointed. Friendly staff and locals and dogs are very much welcomed. May visit again when the B&B accommodation is back in service.

As with so many Internet-based utilities (Trip Advisor / Bing / Facebook etc) — Google Maps doesn't delete out of date entries. The Black Pig has New Management / a New Chef / New Menus / a New Layout — so any entries referring to DATES BEFORE 5th FEBRUARY 2016 ARE IRRELEVANT.

This pub is now closed, yet again. I live a 5 minute walk away. There has been no notice outside to say so, but this is certainly the case.

We stayed here for 1 nigh only. Found the owner, very welcoming and friendly. Phil the barmen was extremely helpful. As they where not serving food that evening (Sunday) we ordered Chinese take away and he laid a table in their restaurant for us! Room was very good for the price. Location is good and the village very nice and quiet. The locals we found on the evening were very helpful friendly and welcoming and my daughter loved playing with their lovely dogs. Breakfast is amazing. Have stayed in a few B&Bs across the country and this is the best stay to date! Would definitely recommend staying here to anyone thinking of visiting Canterbury and would love to visit again.
