We just stayed here for 2nights, for my partner's birthday. Lovely clean hotel, lovely breakfast &staff very friendly. It is a family run business. Would definitely come back again to stay. 👍

Beautiful place to stay, comfortable, clean, and very friendly staff. Cant fault it especially the views of the cathedral would definitely use again.

Unfortunately, we had to cancel our reservation due to the on going pandemic around the world and the new guidelines given by the Prime Minister. The hotel refuses to give a refund of the deposit under these circumstances. I find that not only bad business practice but immorally wrong.

I have stayed here several times, it is full of character. The standard of the hotel staff is excellent can't do enough for you.

We stayed at the Cathedral Gate for our wedding night and it was so lovely! The staff couldn’t do enough to make us welcome and help us celebrate. Everyone was friendly and they even decorated our room.

Querkie rooms with lots of uneven floors, walls and stairs. Breakfast very good but hang on to your plate and coffee.

Each time I stay it is just excellent… amazing people, location, breakfast. Very cosy, clean, quiet. Just stunning highly reccomend!

Staff very nice, nice and helpful.

No parking at the hotel. Unfortunately connected with a little walking and in bad weather a little unpleasant.
However, you can stop at marked parking lots for 6 dollars.

Despite the lack of parking at the hotel, a very clear recommendation.

Those who take a hotel room in the historic city centre should be able to live with it.

Nice stay there. A little bit disturbed by the always on light in the corridor which was visible through the window and the key hole. Continental breakfast was adequate.

A great base to explore Canterbury — right in the centre! The rooms were comfortable and clean, and we were made to feel very welcome. The Wi-Fi worked in both the rooms our party had, often a problem in older buildings. Worth pointing out that as this is an old building, accessibility is a little limited. Breakfast was good. Will definitely consider for our next trip to Canterbury.

Hotel is located in the middle of the City in a restricted traffic zone. Directions possible by vehicle. Parking outside (about 10 Minutes). Parking Is not free (6 Pounds a Day), Very clean. From the Window, the Cathedral of Canterbury can be seen.
Unfortunately, there are Toilet and Shower in the Hallway.
Staff and Handling very friendly and courteous.

Good price, great location, friendly stuff. Slightly too hot in the attic and did not have fan placed so I had my window open but it was quite noizy outside throughout the night as it is in middle of the city so I was woken up few times during night which was only one downside.

Very well located, the staff is very friendly and helpful. The closest parking is 5mins walk away and pay 6 pounds for 24 hours. Good continental breakfast.

Super small room Tinny little shower. Lots of noise from outside and blinds not cover the window so lots of light come inside the room… When mention all that to the reception I got the word : OH SORRY (well that was real helpful…)

Well located in the city center everything is reachable on foot.

Most amazing hotel. Staff could not be more helpful and attentive, nothing was to much trouble. Room was very comfortable. The hotel is wonderfully placed for exploring Canterbury town centre. Wasn't a problem for us, infact added to the charm of the old building, but floors are uneven and stairs may make it tricky for those with mobility issues… However, we could not fault our stay, would highly recommend it and are looking forward to a return visit… Thank you to the lovely staff.

Lovely place with a lot of character, enjoyed our stay and glad for the free ear plugs, as it can get a bit noisy outside due to the central location. Would recommend.

Nice place at center of Canterbury. The room was spacious and the staff was very attentive. The room was close with an actual key, that was a novelty ona hotel. The also took my breakfast to the room free of charge, if you like you want to give yourself some luxury for your day out, I would recommended this place.

Comfortable and quaint hotel right next to the cathedral and city centre. We had a four poster room and had to walk across a roof area to reach it! The bar and breakfast area is small, but inviting. The staff where friendly and helpful. Its a pity they don't offer evening dinner, but being in the heart of the city this is not a problem. Would stay aha.

Perfect location, but toilets and showers in the hallway location we had chosen this hotel for its location and that is also right at the cathedral and right in the middle of the city centre for walking explorations.
The hotel The building is old are nested, the stairs have a small depth and at one point you hardly get your suitcase pulled through the hallway because a supporting pillar is in the way.
The rooms The rooms are typically furnished, but at least on our floor there were toilets and showers only separately in the hallway. — The shower also takes a long time to get warm.
Parking at the reception you get a discounted park mark, which means that you pay only £6 for 24 hours in the public parking spaces (otherwise 1. £80 per hour).
Staff/problem Solving the staff are very friendly and eager to solve all problems, emails are answered promptly and in detail.
Breakfast the continental breakfast (toast, yogurt, fruit salad and cereal with coffee or tea are served on the hiss) was good, English breakfast would have cost a surcharge of £7 50.
Especially noteworthy is the excellent little fruit salad with freshly cut fruit, blueberries and strawberries in April.
Price/performance for £89 a little expensive: for the same price you get for example In Falstaff a free parking and shower and toilet en suite.
In the overall impression because of the price and the separate showers and toilets 3 stars.

My partner and I stayed for a four day break and we were not disappointed. The location was ideal, our room with it's slopping floor and crooked doorway was spacious and quirky and very clean as was the bathroom. The staff could not have been more friendly and hospitable. The breakfast was very satisfying. Overall a very pleasurable experience, we would definitely stay again.

Cute wonky rooms, you could almost feel the past and the history come out of the walls, great location.

After studying in Canterbury for 3 years I never knew this hotel existed! I checked in on the night after needing a room and had amazing service. Was next to a noisy group and they had no problem moving me to another room so I could get some sleep. The free breakfast was lovely with great service and I ended up ordering everything on the menu! Will definitely stay here again if I happened to be in Canterbury. Thankyou.

What an amazing hotel. To my spacious single room I had to take a walkway, very secure and safe, across a roof and had a spectacular view of the cathedral from my room. Shared bathroom but for £50 for a night in the centre of Canterbury at Christmas it's no brainer! Would go again anytime.

A decent and affordable lodging located right at the city centre and within Canterbury cathedral grounds.

Located right at the heart of the city centre and thus easily accessible. My experience at the hotel was beautiful; very friendly staff (one even helped to take pics of me having breakfast in my room while overlooking the cathedral; another offered me tea or coffee when I returned in the evening to collect my luggage which another staff had kindly agreed to safekeep for me while I engaged in my business for the day). The uniqueness of the building — quirky and vintage — added additional flavour to my enjoyment of my time there.

Not all the facilities like shared toilet, no restaurant and small bar but made up with fantastic rooms, enthusiastic staff, breakfast in bed at no extra cost and a beautiful bouquet pf rosesbfor our anniversary, they definitely went out of their way for is and would definitely go back!

Hotel room was lovely but there was a small step int the bathroom. In the dark I forgot about the step, stubbed my toe and fell on to the handle of the door. I have a suspected broken toe and a bruise on my side 6x3 that I cannot touch even two days later.

An amazing historical masterpiece.

You'll need to park a fair distance away in a public car park, but that's a fair compromise for the excellent central location. It's a quirky little place but the rooms are surprisingly large and very nicely appointed.

We stayed for two nights for our 20th wedding anniversary and can highly recommend it. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff were very welcoming and helpful, and they don't skimp on breakfast. A convenient central location and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

This was an emergency stopover that turned out to be a very relaxing stay in a wonderful place with very welcoming hosts. A perfect location with a spectacular view of the beautiful cathedral. Plenty of nearby places to eat and drink. Would definitely return.

Had a lovely two day stay here, if am ever down that neck of the woods would definitely stay there again.

Stayed in a single room for £49.50. It's in an excellent location, right in the heart of the city and next to Canterbury Cathedral. The building is old and therefore an odd shape. The room was clean however the floor was not level, presumably because of the age of the building. The staff were friendly and polite at all times. Can get in and out of the hotel at any time of night. A simple breakfast is included. I would stay there again.

We had a great time here. The hotel must have had an upgrade because we had a lovely, clean and very comfortable room. The breakfasts were really good and the staff friendly and attentive. We are going back again later in the year and asked to see some of the other rooms and thought they were also of a very high standard. Idiosyncratic but wonderful character. Narrow corridors dating back centuries with great history. (I think Chaucer stayed here! ) Very good value for money and we didn't mind a bit of noise because the location is fantastic — you can almost touch the cathedral from some of the rooms.

I have just visited the hotel and my experience was entirely positive. The young man who signed me in and showed me to my room was exceptionally helpful and make me feel very welcome. I had not realised what a difference an attitude of genuine hospitality makes. The location is perfect and although the room was basic, it was adequate and reasonable given the modest price. But what transformed what would have been an ordinary experience into a very positive one was the welcoming attitude of the staff.

I am really very disappointed the rates are as 5 star but rooms and quality of service is worst I suggest to everybody don't stay in that hotel its just waste on money.

There should be a rating lower than poor for this hotel. If it is the last place you can stay in Canterbury, find another town! Dirty room falling apart, badly maintained and noisy as hell. Seriously — avoid this hotel at all costs — it is a slum hostel. Where the hell it got three starts from is unknown. It is the very worst I have ever stayed at, and I have been backpacking in Africa! I did not even stay for the free breakfast, I was out of there at 6am — the earliest I could leave to get a bus.
