Nearly 7 months pregnant and have been CRAVING ribs for a couple of weeks now. The husband was searching for a decent takeaway but no luck — everyone seemed to have simplified their menus due to lockdown. On a walk today I happened to see The Wellington did takeaway and they did ribs! Ordered them as soon as I got home. The food was well packaged, delivered promptly, reasonably priced and absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for making this expectant mum very happy…

We had a delicious Sunday lunch from the Welly today. It was delivered on time and we really enjoyed it. Thank you very much for making our lockdown Sunday special.

Ordered and collected a NYE steak box. So easy to prepare and the steaks were delicious, as were all the sides. Thank you! Happy New Year!

Went to the wellington at lunch time, in October, absolutely shocking, ordered two fish, chips, peas from the menu, one Timothy Taylor, one lemonade, fish was awful came way over cooked, bone dry, and for the pleasure charged £42. Will never go back again. Take a look on trip advisor for the bad reviews.

Just ordered a lovely takeaway from the Wellington. Quick turnaround, huge portions and tasted delicious! Highly recommended.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Welly. We were in town for a friends wedding and the room was great and the breakfast was excellent. If we’re back again in the future we’ll definitely be coming here for dinner or a stay in one of the rooms again.

We had lunch here a few days ago. The weather was was warm so we had a table on the terrace behind the pub. Good spot, away from the roadside and pleasantly quiet. The menu offered a good choice of slightly different pub fare. My fish and chips was excellent! There is a good value deal available at lunchtime with a main plus a pint plus a coffee which we took. Turned out to be excellent value. Our first pint was cloudy but the manager quickly spotted it was the end of the barrel and did not quibble about providing a fresh beer. The servers appeared to be fairly new staff but were very efficient and polite. All in all, good food, good beer and good service.

Upgrading my previous review rating of 1* to 4* as the service has improved a huge amount and the new menu has great food. Worth giving it a shot, it's a nice dining experience now.

I cannot thank the Wellington team enough for tonight. We've been eating here for some years now. Its always wonderful. This evening my dad was very unwell at the table ending up in A&E, the team could not of been more caring or gracious. … thank you so much for your help xx Ali.

A stylish restaurant and bar with a garden to the rear for those sunny days. The service was a bit hit and miss at our recent visit but the food was absolutely spot on. We will be back to sample more items from this compact but seriously tasty menu soon.

Elegant and warm atmosphere. Service is ok, not the best or worse I've had. The food is very good, both traditional favourites and more modern creations, the dishes reflect the care the chefs must put into their work, some might say it looks pretentious for a village but I loved it. It is already hard enough to find proper pub food, nonetheless finding gastro pubs that actually serve decent food, and this place is definitely a must if you live in the area. Recommended.

Visited The Wellington today for leaving lunch for some colleagues. I've visited on numerous occasions before and really enjoyed the atmosphere surroundings, food and service. One of the team who lives locally said the pub had changed hands recently. The decor is the same, but I'm afraid the experience and food have gone downhill quite some way. Menu was very much reduced, to the point that I wasn't very taken with any of it. I settled on kedgeree, which came out looking very orange, with a soft boiled egg on top and didn't seem to have any fish in it, which didn't seem quite right! We had to look for attention for ordering drinks and then suggest we were ready to order food and to get plates cleared and the bill to arrive — not very responsive to people who were clearly not there for a leisurely lunch. Others food also seemed not as good as before. Really sad to take this off my list of lunch places for this sort of thing, but it wasn't great today.

Dropped in for lunch on a break from working. The service was good, our hostess looking after our requests well. The food was simple lunch stuff, quick and easy to eat which is exactly what we were after.

Used to really like the Wellington but it has gone downhill in recent months. The food is very average and overpriced, and service is slow as they seem understaffed. For a better meal in Welwyn, Vita is a great Italian across the street and has nicer food for a similar price with fantastic service.

Always poor service and the food is mediocre. It's always been the same but we only went as a friend organised it.

Service bit mixed, draft becks awful, not even cold on a chilly day. Bit cramp, not good for large groups. Food excellent and we'll presented, staff just need to be a bit sharper. Am told it's expensive but I found it reasonable.

Breakfast with family in this cosy welcoming pub. Lovely atmosphere, with features like beams, solid wooden tables generous fire and looked after by warm and efficient staff. Food deliciously cooked served on hot plates.

The Wellington, amazing building, very nicely restored. Knew it when it was a hungry horse establishment. Moved on from there quite a bit. Initially I wasn't to keen primarily because of the meagre portion sizes and big pounds for them. Though in fairness after it was restored after a major fire its seems to have really improved. We've been in several times, varying from as a couple, to parents with children and parents with children and with dementia grand parent. The staff are always polite and helpful as possible. The food is delicious its a great place to eat.

Called to book a table… tikf to just cone along… I asked again and told there would be no problem. When she arrived it was chaos, awful atmosphere… justbtokd to sit and wait… 15 mins, no update, no drink order taken do we left. This place has really changed! Won't go again. Male staff encountered were disinterested … such a shame.

Accommodation very nice. Staff great and very nice. Wi-Fi excellent.

I visited for a romantic weekend away staying in one of the rooms upstairs and eating in the restaurant. The room was beautiful — a mix of old beams and character with new fixtures and furniture. The food was excellent — more restaurant than pub — they clearly have an imaginative chef! I would highly recommend a visit!

I wanted to give them 4.5 stars but I can't give half a star. Detoured to Welwyn for lunch on our way to London and found the Wellington. Great food and service at a reasonable price. My only whinge (and why they don't get 5 stars) is that there aren't many gluten free mains on the menu.

Went for Sunday lunch. Ordered roast beef, looked lovely, beef cooked perfectly, though vegetables were salty.

Went for lunch here one Friday lunchtime. Ate from the lunch fixed price menu. Food has always been good the many times I've been here previously, but I was disappointed this time round. The ham hock croquettes were good, but the stacked burger was very greasy and didn't taste of good quality, plus accompanying skinny fries were rather over done. Service was a bit patchy. We had to ask for condiments/cutlery/dessert menus more than once and even then they were slow to arrive — condiments so late that most people no longer needed them! It didn't seem terribly busy, but we were in the garden and there may have been lots more inside. Overall disappointing, which is a shame because this is often a go to pub when requiring a decent informal meal in a pleasant environment.

Popped in for Saturday lunch, it was amazing. The service was great and the food wonderful. Will definitely be back. How come I haven't been here before?

We had a fantastic evening to celebrate my mother in law's birthday. The food was superb and the staff were so accommodating and friendly and made the occasion very special. This was our third visit and it's never disappointed. Can't recommend highly enough.
