Beautiful walled garden and easy access to the city centre.

Lovely atmosphere. Lovely sandwiches. Scones were rather chewy. Lovely tarts. Cake very underwhelming. Was a little disappointed but thankfully it was all about the company this time around. I'd have been disappointed if I had come for the food.

Lovely clean room, breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner were yummy. The staff were really nice and our bartender recommended the local gin which my husband loved. Parking was a bit dodgy but to be expected for such a poplar hotel. We'd love to come back in the summer.

We only had afternoon tea, so can’t comment about the rooms, but the front of house and garden restaurant was very nice.

Had our wedding here yesterday and I wouldn’t have had it anywhere else. Staff have been brilliant from start to finish. The hotel is beautiful, there wasn’t a scrap left after the wedding breakfast (apart from mine) and the rooms are lovely. Just disappointed I was so nervous I couldn’t really eat my meal at the wedding breakfast as the small amount I ate was so delicious! Would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone.

Had a delicious afternoon tea there. Fabulous scones and great tasting sandwiches.

Lovely place very clean and very elegant inside I was there for my birthday for afternoon tea, the staff were very nice, polite, the food was amazing lovely service I would highly recommend the Winchester royal hotel.

Fantastic hotel with a wonderful garden area. Rooms overlooking garden are excellent with a bed that is simlpy enormous.
Breakfast was brilliant. A perfect place for a relaxing stay in Winchester.

Great Hotel, Disabled access is limited, but the staff will do everything in their power to make the stay and experience memorable for the right reasons.

We had our wedding day at The Winchester Royal Hotel on Saturday and had the best time, the staff were amazing and very accommodating and Kelly was always to hand and took care of all our needs. The food was fantastic and all of our guests were extremely happy with there meals. Thanks you all at the hotel for making our day perfect.

Only checked in a couple of hours ago but the hotel is lovely and clesn and the staff are friendly. Had a drink in the garden which is so beautiful. Can imagine it looks amazing when the sun is shining. The rooms are spacious and the bed feels comfortable and a large double. Feeling relaxed and looking forward to Winchester by night.

Nicely located in a quite street. A short walk into town. Lovely garden area to unwind in. Bar and restaurant overlooking the garden. Great menu and very tasty food. The hotel has an on site car park that is chargeable. Good service. Clean spacious rooms overlooking the garden. Note there are a lot of steps to contend with due to the age of the building. A great place to stay.

We stayed with our three teenagers in the Bake House. Lovely place. Gorgeous rooms. Recommend it very highly.

Couldn’t recommend this hotel highly enough my daughter just got married there and the experience from start to finish could not be bettered from how helpful and friendly all the staff members are to how lovely the rooms are the food was great and breakfast the following day couldn’t be beaten Thankyou to everyone.

After staying one night on the 25th April I would like to say what a lovely hotel this is. The room was lovely and spacious and the staff and food excellent.

We stayed here with a coach party to visit the Christmas market. The room was lovely, decorated beautifully, comfortable, clean and very spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful, the duty manager Alex was always on hand to help and advise of timings for breakfast and dinner. The food was very nice. The hotel is placed in a great position for the shops and Christmas market. Would definitely return and highly recommend. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Stayed one night. Excellent service. Amazing breakfast and very comfy beds. Would have given 5 stars but felt that parts of the hotel just needed a bit of tlc and maintenance done. Also net curtains made the otherwise lovely bedroom look very dated.

I was here for a work's Summer BBQ and had a great time. The food was really good, although the choice for vegetarians was limited, and the staff were friendly and helpful, as usual. I have also enjoyed really good work's Christmas lunches here.

A nice hotel in a good location. There is a nice courtyard in the centre of the hotel which is perfect for enjoying a drink to unwind. The facilities are all very good & I found the staff to be helpful & polite. The only downside for me was having to pay £10 to park the car overnight otherwise a pleasant stay.

Not really what I expected. The room was spacious, it was quiet and comfortable but there wasn't enough attention to detail. There was no air conditioning but no fans available either. My partner went down to reception late at night but there was no night porter around. It would have been nice to have had a bottle of water in our room as well as the tea and coffee. The member of staff who directed us to our room looked scruffy. The car park cost £10. Just little things, really, but they added up to give an overall impression. We probably won't stay again.

Very helpful and friendly staff. Nice room and lovely enclosed garden. Few negatives because of lateness of being able to get in to room as hard working staff were undermanned and wobbly breakfast table always a pain! Give them more staff and update a bit and would be really lovely. Very good location for exploring area.

Lovely place to stay. Great location. It's in the centre of the town. Loads to see and restaurants to go to. The restaurant in the hotel has lovely food. The gardens are nice to sit in. If the weather is good. Staff friendly and helpful.

Stayed here a few years ago. Our room was above the lounge room. We were awoken at 2am until past 4am by a massive group. I went down twice to ask the night supervisor to tell them to move on, which they didn't. I wasn't the only person to complain in the early hours! The next day I spoke to the manager who said she would refund my drinks. We only had one beer and a coke! My girlfriend didn't want me to make a fuss, even though we had been awake for 3hrs during the night. I'm sure there are quieter rooms in the hotel and sure it is a pleasant place. Would not recommend the rooms above the lounge. The rooms in the back garden are your safe bet!

The bedroom was a good size as was the bathroom and the bed was comfortable. We stayed in the main part not the newer block. All the staff were excellent. Lovely enclosed garden to sit in. Evening meal was well cooked and presented with a nice selection of food at breakfast. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Lovely hotel. First room we were given was very loud with foot traffic and doors slamming in corridor, but they were happy to move us for the second night and latter room was much better. We both found the pillows very uncomfortable and wished there was some kind of fan or air conditioning, but everything was otherwise comfy. Breakfast was average. We didn't eat at the restaurant otherwise, but did have one drink in the lounge. Selection was somewhat limited and my red wine was honestly undrinkable, but otherwise it was a lovely space to relax and play games in. All of the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and professional. Do be aware of the £10 a night parking charge for guests.

If you like playing hide and seek for staff members that look like they have been dragged through hedges, this is the place for you. Just make sure you have nothing planned for the rest of your day because you will still be trying to get your teapot refilled by one of those cheeky hide and go seekers. Paying will be interesting too. Good luck!

Good quiet rooms, tea & coffee, espresso, iron with board, hairdryer. Restaurant service bit slow. No ale in bar while I was there, only lagers & ciders. Wetherspoons pub only 2 minutes walk away though. Buffet breakfast which I prefer. Very little vegetables with dinner. Very good river walks not far away.

Located in the centre of Winchester it is ideal for those that want a central location. Word of caution here, car parking is limited and not gaurenteed. (We were made aware of this before arrival though). Stayed for two nights, staff were attentive & friendly. Rooms were comfortable and the garden view was pleasing to the eye. Food was above average. Would definitely use again, a good base for a pleasant weekend away.

Great service, staff are very friendly and helpful. Lovely enclosed garden area. Room is clean with nice big towels and power showers. Have stayed twice fir work and hope to return again soon.

Unexpected cheap, awesome experience ~picked up a good bargain and a excellent experience ~ I do recommend it.

Ideal location allowing you to explore Winchester City with all its lovely restaurants and bars. All the staff we come across were friendly and welcoming. The room had everything we needed, and was spotless. Overall a charming Hotel which we would highly recommend, good value for money and included breakfast, will visit again.

A comfortable and attractive hotel, centrally located, and with friendly helpful staff. Check breakfast times for every day of your stay, though — they vary depending on the day, and unfortunately we turned up too late for Monday's, for which we'd even pre-paid. (However, the staff member did helpfully suggest a nice cafe 5 minutes walk away. )

Visited this hotel with a view to booking for a special birthday. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Greeted with a pot of coffee and homemade biscuits. Couldn't have been more different to the reception we had at The Millstream a week or so earlier.

Not worth the money; tatty; behind the times, but great location. Definitely don't pay over 100 quid. And it's 10 quid to park. I used late rooms who misled me, check quickly when you get the room confirmed as suddenly stuff changes. Sometimes this world is so frustrating how cheaply we get purposely misled these days; especially when there are Google reviews… and you just know it's going to cost them more in the long run… Worst Best Western; nice garden though!

6 of us stayed for 2 nights (9-11th February) The rooms were lovely, quiet and comfortable and the windows opened! The food was all of a very good standard and the breakfast was excellent. The main reason for writing this review, however, is to commend the staff. Everyone we met bent over backwards to be helpful and friendly — from the reception staff to the chamber staff all were excellent.

Lovely old hotel extremely conveniently located in the centre of Winchester. Rooms are nice but a bit dated. Proximity to the centre of Winchester makes this hotel a great place to stay, its a short walk away from any of the restaurants and shops.

Lovely room, including an amazing selection for breakfast for an absolutely great price. Booked direct which gave me the good deal. Nice friendly staff too with onsite parking which is very useful in Winchester.

Central location in Winchester which isn't blessed with a wide range of hotels. Comfortable rooms and reasonable value.

Excellent. Staff friendly, polite and extremely helpful. Good hotel facilities and service. Good quality food, wines etc. Lovely gardens and very contemporary but elegant decor. Absolutely nothing is too much trouble here.

Stayed overnight and generally enjoyed the stay. Room was good and nice facilities. Only complaint — service very slow at breakfast.

I have stayed at the Winchester Royal on a number of occasions. The staff are very welcoming and accommodating. The rooms are clean and spacious. Great Food available too.

Went to reception to see if we could check in early. Receptionist said no check ins until 3 and carried on, she seemed rather brash. First impression wasn't that good as politeness costs nothing. Restaurant was very slow but the food was good. Bed in the room was huge and comfortable.

Afternoon tea here was delightful. We were in the garden restaurant and the cake and sandwich selection was good. The staff were very friendly, getting us an alternative to tea and coffee for someone in our party who didn't drink it.

Stayed overnight, wanting a close base for sightseeing. Our room has been recently refurbished. Bathroom clean and modern. Very slight smell of damp in main room probably due to the bathroom fan extraction rate too low. Dinner main course was excellent, full English breakfast good. Waiting staff pleasant and help full.

We visited this hotel on the Bank Holiday weekend 27th August for 1 night The hotel is situated in the heart of town. So not far from all the attractions on view in Winchester, We arrived early and went to check in but was told we were too early and to come back at 2pm, that gave us a chance to have lunch in town. Once we finished lunch we went back to the hotel to checkin this was very smooth. Our room was very spacious looking over the garden. Only negative point with the garden it was very dull no colour in the landscape at all, nice and clean with all the extras we expected, only one snag was that their was no air conditioning and the room was very hot, we did open the windows to try and cool the room down, but it started to get noisy from the beer garden at night and this kept us awake for while, but did eventually get some sleep, over all the hotel was very nice and would rate it as a 4 star. And would recommend to any one wanting to stay :-)

The hotel is in the heart of Winchester with a beautiful garden and large rooms. There is a lot of stairs to different levels even the main entrance has stairs and steps back down to reception but efforts have been made to put in stairlifts. Our room itself was large had a comfortable bed but no air-con and a spacious bathroom the hotel hosts wedding, afternoon teas and evening meals with quite spacious bar as well. Plenty of friendly on hand staff at check-in but if you're driving don't forget there's a £10 charge extra for overnight parking in the hotel car park.

Wow! Just Wow! What can we say? My husband Simon and I got married at this lovely hotel yesterday. We had the most amazing and perfect day ever! It all started with a proposal 10mths ago. We visited the Winchester Royal as a potential venue and immediately fell in love. The inside of the hotel is so historic and the secret garden is beautiful! We dealt with Kelly the hotel's wedding co-ordinator from the start to finish and she is such a kind, enthusiastic and knowledgeable person. Our entire day was faultless! So well organised with exceptional communication.
Our Wedding bridal suite was room 114, Jane Austen suite. Very light, airy and a well presented room. The food was delicious. Every single member of staff we met, gave us the warmest welcome and nothing was too much trouble.
We would highly recommend this hotel for a wedding! Thank you all!

Although there was a cock up regarding our evening meal, where they never reserved us a table and every restaurant within the vicinity was fully booked, they made amends by offering us to eat a takeaway of our choice in which we paid for In a private function room, a free bottle of wine and a free breakfast, staff tried their best to accommodate, but make sure you receive a confirmation of all reservations, would still recommend though as it was a nice hotel and staff friendly.

A medium sized hotel with friendly staff, comfortable rooms and a beautiful lathe garden. It's central location makes it great as a way to visit Winchester as it is only 90 seconds walk from the high street.

Beautiful olde world ambience and attendance, with first class attentiveness and service from the great staff… felt very welcome and comfortable… throughly enjoyed the excellent food cooked… I had the Fillet of Red Mullet … absolutely beautiful… in fact. Great location. Lovely room in the old part of the hotel looking over a quiet garden. The Wi-Fi was excellent so must have improved recently. Only complaint was the price of the breakfast £16 which they don't tell you about until you have gone to your room. So be warned if you pre-book a stay ask for breakfast.

Good location and quiet. Pretty rooms and comfortable bed I thought but agree Wi-Fi connection was appalling and the rooms were stifling at night with no air con. The food was a real let down. I had an afternoon tea that was clearly on its last legs — the sandwiches were stale. The room service fish and chips tasted old too. I found the staff okay but difficult to get hold of. I was a bit disappointed to be honest.

Despite prepaying for it, there was no Wi-Fi and TV was on the fritz for 3 days. Management was non responsive. Room was comfortable, staff was nice.

Some rooms feel bit like living in a cell. Wifi connection is a hit and missed, some rooms can't event connect to it.

A historic and charming hotel right in the heart of Winchester. The staff are unfailingly helpful and polite, and although we didn't try the restaurant, the bar food was excellent. Unfortunately it's let down by the rooms — with faded decor and a pervasive mustiness, they need refreshing. A lumpy mattress and somehow uncomfortable bedsheets is a disappointment, and the advertised Wi-Fi didn't work.
