The afternoon tea was great, warm scones, tasty sandwiches and very yummu cakes. Staff very helpful and attentive. Lovely view of the beach and sea from the restaurant window. Will definitely go again.

Staff were expectional' and went beyond' especially Adam and Chris.

Lovely rooms, service has always been good, great as the hotel is just across the road from the beach.
Breakfast has always been great quality and lovely views whilst eating it.

My favourite hotel, I come over to Portsmouth multiple times a year and I always stay here. Love the location, the atmosphere and the stunning views in the seaview rooms are amazing. Great staff, personal touch and lovely historic building. Cannot wait to be back!

Beautiful place with helpful attentive staff.

No heating. Wind was coming straight off the sea but it was So cold I pulled out the portable heater and it still didn’t affect the room. Nice rooms lovely staff but FREEZING!

A very warm welcome when we checked in. Our bar meal was amazing. Highly recommend.

It’s a great place for holding reunions! Plenty of function rooms, and a very spacious Dining Room.

We have stayed here many times over the Xmas period and cannot fault it. Today we just popped in for tea and coffee, we were not disappointed — lovely pot of coffee, pot of hot water for tea and complimentary biscuits, very reasonably priced.

Lovely hotel, highly recommended! just a shame about the pier alarm going off at 3.30am.

Me and my partner Sarah came to the Royal Beach Hotel today for a lovely roast carvery and lovely puddings and staff was very friendly and helpful I will be recommending you to my friends and family and Me and Sarah will be back again some time.

Went to The Royal Beach for Sunday lunch, staff were attentive and the food was lovely! In fact l left as full as an egg! Definitely will be back on my next trip home!

The hotel was lovely. We struggled to park but realised there may have been more parking at the back. We had the breakfast which was really great and it was really close to the seaside. The room was comfortable and cosy. I recommend you book the room online as we paid more at the desk than we would have online.

Hotel itself was nice, breakfast couldn’t fault, however our room was lacking daylight, and the plumbing could do with updating. We did ask to change rooms, but was told that they were all booked. Location was good for us. The room we were allocated did spoil our stay.

Very nice hotel. Upgraded to sea view room as it was my birthday. Beds nice bathroom nice. Breakfast great especially at an extra £5 for both of us. Parking was ok very good hotel would definitely use again.

What a terrific find. This is a great hotel in a lovely setting. Big rooms. Lovely carpets and comfortable big beds. Lots of hot water I had a room with big bath and shower. A really comfortable stay. Made me feel special. Thank you staff.

This hotel has one of the best buffet breakfasts in the business, and the dining room staff don't wait to ask you if you want tea or coffee with your meal. Built in the 1860s, this Victorian hotel has been refurbished, rooms clean and well finished to a good standard, and the hotel remains charming and welcoming. A good bar area as well. All this right on the promenade and overlooking the sea. Views excellent.

We have just had our wedding at the hotel and we could not have asked for better service. From when we booked almost 2 years ago to the big day itself on 21st July 18 all of the events team and hotel management have gone above and beyond for us, always ensuring we had exactly what we wanted. Nothing was too much trouble, the whole team were great but a big thank you to Davina, Lisa, Antonio & Bruno all of you helped to make our day special. Thank you so much xx.

Lovely view and close to beach. Rooms were clean & beds were comfortable. Friendly and helpful staff with local info and advice. Had a bit of a ghost experience but did not share it with the family until we left so we would not scare our young teens.

4 stars is based on the quality of the hotel compared with other hotels of similar or higher price. Have stayed here almost every week for 4 months now. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room sizes vary depending on type of room booked, but on the whole are very generous. Bathrooms are clean, well-maintained, with everything working. Showers never run out of hot water. Rooms with sea view have a great view (obvs), although windows might rattle in the winter. Rooms without a view really don’t have anything worth looking out the window for. Food in hotel is pretty good. It’s not gourmet Michelin stuff, but it’s done well enough for what it is. Sea-front location is excellent! Co-op next door is useful when you get peckish. Hotel is very dated and could do with a serious face-lift, but if you don’t mind that (accidental) retro style, the plus points (above) easily win out.

Great hotel. The restaurant is superb and always eat there at least once. Rooms are clean but getting a bit tired. Staff are really friendly. Highly recommend as a place to stay.

The first thing you notice is the friendly and helpful staff. The hotel restaurant is tidy, clean and spacious. We 6 were there for Sunday carvery, no complaints at all. Tasty, well presented food that I think is good value. Makes a very pleasent afternoon and being right on the seafront just perfect for that after lunch stroll.

Great location, close to Pier with amusement arcade for kids and also to boating lake to walk round or go on pedal boats. Excellent choice of food in restaurant in evenings. Breakfasts are brilliant. 1 min walk to bus stop that goes directly to Portsmouth Historic Naval Dockyard (also handy in reverse if you are travelling to Portsmouth on train or coach). Very clean room, comfortable beds and choice of pillows. Friendly, helpful staff on Reception at all times. Plus it has a car park. If you are looking for a Victorian-style, beach-front hotel for a perfect family break, this is the one for you.

VERY disappointed in the Victorian era it had to be a hotel of shock but in 2018 we are always in the same place, nothing has evolved, at least we have the impression and it is no longer a hotel of shock but an old hotel dusty.
Positives: very welcoming and friendly staff, beautiful sea view and Pier (Pier) If you are lucky enough to have booked a room with sea view.
Negative points: you will have to fight 15 mn to succeed in opening at least open your window. These are actually fake double glazing so you have to slide the one from the inside and there it is not obvious because everything is unboxed but where it becomes really Beefy in the proper sense of the term it is when it is necessary to lift a few centimeters the big sash window that overlooks the outside! otherwise, no air conditioning, so sauna upon our arrival in the room that overlooks the South.
Attention a small writing (the size of a Metro ticket) on the window of your room stipulates that it is dangerous to go on the balcony (implied: who, being too old, can not bear your weight) … and Yes, nothing has changed since the Victorian era that's what I said at the beginning!
For lighting you have the right to 4 bulbs divided into 4 Small bedside lamps and wall sconces in your room. Phew, we escaped the candles of the Victorian era!
Let's go to breakfast: products of low quality and insufficient quantity (more bananas at 8:30…).

One of the best located hotels in Portsmouth. I like the basic and traditional decoration of the rooms. Helpful and diligent staff. High speed internet included. Satisfactory breakfast. A rewarding loyalty scheme through the Best Western Rewards Scheme which I recommend for people who use Best Western Group of hotels for 10 or more night annually. Never expiring points and if you are lucky you might get a free room upgrade.

Very nice establishment but that needs a very clean refreshing breakfast quality very average staff very friendly and efficient.

We had a great weekend at the hotel for our daughters wedding. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend a stay at this hotel.

Great dog friendly hotel. Good cavities and lovely staff. Good location near to main Southsea shops beach and pier.

In a great location with views looking out over the solent and of the Isle of Wight. The hotel is a bit run down and could do with some updating but generally looks ok on the inside. Large bedrooms with good views. Beds slightly uncomfortable and the room did get quite hot at night time but not unbearable. We had booked a single room but the staff kindly upgraded us to a double room free of charge. Overall a good stay.

On checking in to the hotel we were not told about the music/ disco going on and then on returning to the hotel at 10pm the noise from the music was directly below our room (family room) which went on until midnight. So wasn't happy as the receptionist should had pointed this out on arrival, or tried to accommodate us away from the function. Hotel was very tired, as have stayed here in the past (5 years ago) and not much has been done since.

Just returned from a 4 night line dancing break. Loved the hotel, it's friendly staff and the location. The ballroom was ideal and dancing great. Our twin room was spacious and we were impressed with the large fluffy white bath towels. The cream tea in the bar overlooking the sea was delicious, we spoilt ourselves on several occasions. Bus service was amazing, buses every 10 minutes. No need for taxis, easy to get to the bus station and railway station by bus. Would thoroughly recommend. We'll be back.

We booked a one nights stay as a special treat. I was absolutely amazed with our room, perfect sea views, a lovely spacious room and very clean, warm and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. We ate a meal in the bar, as we were going to the theatre and needed to eat early, the food was delicious and satisfying. I would definitely recommend the Royal Beach and we can’t wait to come back again, hopefully for two nights next time. Well done to everyone at the Royal Beach.

The decor and facilities may be a little dated but the location is great and the rooms are good value so all in all a good place to stay. Convenient for Southsea but about a 45 minute walk to Portsmouth attractions.

Stayed one night on a business trip. Better than I was expecting considering the price. Single room was £55 room only with breakfast an additional £7.50 if purchased in advance. Room was ok, staff friendly and breakfast good. Would use again.

Lovely older style hotel. As a world traveler though it is unusual to find a Best Western without air conditioning. Probably their hottest day and we were on the top floor. Excellent fish and chips in their restaurant downstairs. Obviously a popular placed for the locals as it was pretty crowded and great value for money. Room had a lovely view of the Isle of White and watched the hovercraft doing its trips back and forward. Lovely area for holiday makers to chill out.

Lovely hotel full of character. Very friendly and helpful staff as always in a Best Western Hotel. Though the hotel was 'older', this added to the ambience and feel of the place, like being on an Agatha Christie film set! It was so nice to be able to walk from South Sea to the Historic Dockyard along the sea front, a 35 minute walk but well worth the effort to experience the historical value of this city. Loved our stay and hope to return to see more of the surrounding area.

Great hotel, dog friendly and stay here a few times a year. Fab location too to walk to Gun Wharf Quays. Great food and reasonable prices. Will back again soon. Oh, and the Pier is open again now and there is a Co Op shop right on the door stop in the new flats/retirement homes right next door.

A lovely looking hotel. Ideally placed for a walk on the pier. We were there for a Christmas event. Reception and bar all very nice. The celebrations were fun. Although the starters and desert were nice, the main Christmas meal was below par. A small plate of food that didn't have much love shown to it. There were no additional sides and the extra gravy was offered after we had finished. One of our colleagues was staying in a single room, which to be fair, was very small and very cold. A last negative comment, there was no real ale behind the bar. Only lager, Tetleys or Guinness doesn't really cut it nowadays. In summary, a nice place but could do better.

The hotel is in a very good location. The room we had was functional but the decor was very dated and the bed was pretty soft. I don’t know if all the rooms are like this as we had our 2 dogs with us and were allocated a “dog friendly” room. The staff were very professional and helpful, the breakfast was good and Wi-fi worked fine. There is some renovation work going on so access to the hotel from the car park involves a longer than expected walk.

Friendly and warm welcome. Naval tradition as a theme so it seems throbbing. Rooms are well presented and bed seems comfortable. Due to our time of departure, breakfast would have been missed but the staff arranged our group could have an early breakfast. I would recommend to a friend and visit again.

Very nice, well-run hotel. Staff are very friendly and happy to help in any way. We had a room with a sea-view which was amazing, fabulous sun set and sun rise, great views of the Solent with all its ferries and boats, also opposite the South Parade pier, so plenty to watch and lots of photo opportunities. Room had a queen sized bed which was extremely comfortable. All the other facilities you would expect. I would happily return here again.

A very nice hotel on the coast. The staff is friendly, but the rooms are a bit dated from the décor.

Had everything you'd want while staying at a hotel (except parking) but it is very dated. Carpark was no where big enough for the hotel and surrounding streets had parking restrictions so if you couldn't get into the carpark, you could end up with a long walk back to the hotel after getting parked up. Rooms lacked sockets close to a mirror for the wife to do her hair. Ended up removing a mirror from the wall and replacing it everyday when my wife had finished with it. Finishing on a positive, the seaview rooms had a great view when the weather was nice to us.

Our stay at the Royal Beach Hotel Southsea Portsmouth was most enjoyable. Would recommend it. Will return again.

The reception staff at the hotel were just freindly enough but the breakfast staff could cheer up a little. They brought us tea rather than coffee — not a big deal but a sorry would have been nice rather than just laughing. The breakfast was lovely and we had a great view out to sea. No sea room from the room unfortunately but not everyone can have one! The rooms are Very old fashioned and small and the bed was quite hard, but being one of the cheaper hotels by the sea you can't expect too much more. I would stay here again but only if I couldn't afford to try somewhere nicer.

The staff spoke to us like utter crap and most of our stuff was stolen by the staff but the cctv wasent working that nite how convenient that is you have reuined our whole wedding and all we get is crap from u and abuse absolutely disgusting the way u have treated us! Would never recommend this place!

Historic old hotel with perfect views of the water. It is fairly well referbished despite the uneven floors and ancient building smell. Rooms are clean and comfortable with full tub baths. Skip the food.

Great hotel. Right by the seafront. Spacious rooms and great views of the sea and the Isle of Wight. Restaurant is beautiful as well with very impressive chandeliers perfect for functions such as weddings and proms (also has 4 other function rooms just as great). Food is tasty and staff very friendly. I do recoend this hotel!

Staff wonderful. Great for being on the sea front and a stroll along the beach before breakfast. We went out of season and were upgraded to a sea view room. Rooms spacey and comfortable. Breakfast filling. Would stay again.

Clean room, friendly staff, great location. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the bed. I had no other complaints at all, exept the bed. It's really the worst bed I've ever had in any hotel EVER! It was so bad I had to take off 2 stars. It was like sleeping on concrete. Everything else was great though.

Attended a wedding reception at the Royal Beach. This is our second visit and both times we have found the venue fantastic. All the staff were professional and very friendly, no stuffy attitudes here. Both weddings we attended went very smoothly and nothing is too much trouble for the management, this is a very well oiled machine. Food was excellent both visits and waiting staff are to be highly applauded. Highly recommended.

I was there last week-end for the annual meeting of the Central Council of Church Bellringers. The staff were wonderful and I had a fantastic time. All arrangements were superb by both the Ringers' Guild concerned and the Hotel Staff who seemed to be on duty 24/7! They were friendly and very efficient. My room was gorgeous, with a sea view and the food was beautiful. I come originally from Portsmouth and shall use it again to meet my relatives. Nothing was too much trouble with everything convenient. Thank you for a very good week-end!

Clean, tidy room although a bit small. Very homey but no heating, the TV is in an awkward position and a guide for channels would be helpful. Breakfast was amazing, so worth it especially as all you can eat. Close to the beach and to the shopping centre, well worth staying here! Would go again.

To begin with, the staff were so friendly both greeting us as we arrived and at breakfast. The only reason for not having 5 stars was because, rooms were rather dated, but very very clean which was good; as we've been in hotels more modern but less clean! And the other reason was that there was limited parking, being on the seafront. But the breakfast was great, loads on offer and very hot; unlike some buffet breakfasts you get. Comfortable bed with all you need in the room. Nice hot showers and the hotel is located close to anything you need, bars, restaurants and a 10 minute drive to Gunwharf Quays! Highly recommended.

Room very outdated, breakfast average, not worth the price you are charging, wasent happy that we had to park miles away, would of appreciated an E mail to let us know that was gonna happen because there was a wedding going on, had the worst view from our window of the fire escape, on closing the curtains noticed there was blackmould on the wall on futher investigation saw the curtain linnings allso had black mould on them too, and then saw it was on both sides of the window, the bathroom door wouldent close properly, then to top it all off the internet kept going on then off, so I was unable to use my I pad, wasent happy.

The minute I entered the hotel the staff made me feel welcome. I love this kind of warmth from people, almost a family-like feeling. This was enough for me to want to return when I’m in town again.

Very friendly and clean, had two elderly people in our party with limited mobility. The hotel catered for them even loaning us a wheelchair. The rooms were well kept and the food was fantastic staff were very attentive.

Very nice and large room. The buffet is the best in all of England. Staff was very friendly. We come back.
