Best Sunday roast dinner I have ever had! And image bit of a foodie. Reasonably priced, lovely staff, great quality food. We took my toddler and they provided colouring pencils. The place looks a little shabby on first impressions but the settings for when you get Inside is lovely. Highly recommend. X.
We have driven past this pub on many occasions and never given it a second glance, as it looked so uninspiring. Well never judge a book by its cover. After a reading a review in Lancashire Life, we decided to give it a try for my wife's birthday. You can eat in the pub or in the dining room at the back, which has stunning views across the valley to Holcombe Tower. When we arrived, all the staff were cheerful and welcoming. When we go out for a meal, we do not like food that we would eat at home — we prefer something special. In this respect, the Eagle & Child did not disappoint. The menu contained some of the traditional fare which you would expect in a pub, but some of it and that on the specials board were definitely different. For the main course, I picked the duck and my wife picked the pig's cheek. I have eaten duck on many occasions, but never like this — it was delicious. I looked on at my wife's dish with the pig's cheek and made a mental note to definitely have that the next time we come. The food was definitely outstanding, but what about the rest? Well the bar had a good selection of beers including a range of hand pulled cask ales. The waiters were efficient, pleasant and cheerful and were always discreetly on hand if you needed to call upon them. The selection of wines was good and reasonably priced and the wine list impressively came in tablet form.

Well we have eaten here a few times and it's always wonderful, absolutely without fault. We decided to take the dogs a walk, and on our way, to stop off and eat in the beer garden. Dogs aren't allowed inside which was fine and understood. The interesting part was that the menu is different in the beer garden in that it was more 'rustic' with less choice and no Sunday roast option for outdoor diners. Something I am not aware of in other establishments. Bit of a set back but putting that aside it was good pub grub. The beer was very good.
