Review of Holiday Inn London Sutton, an IHG Hotel 4*

Came here for a family birthday party initial impressions were pay for parking not happy, distracted receptionist, not happy, bar staff in the downstairs bar impolite and hassled, not happy. Considering they had a booked function for a Saturday night. They had run out of two of the main beers being Boddingtons and Budweiser, which I thought was appalling. The function room itself was too hot and poor air conditioning the rooms themselves are too hot with poor air conditioning. We did have a problem with our shower which was in fairness rectified very quickly. There was also a real lack of suitable bar staff throughout the function resulting in Long Waits to purchase a drink. The one bar man that was on duty had no real customer skills to speak of and seems to be in a permanent bad mood with no sense of humour or customer engagement.
There were a lot of staff on hand to clear up unfortunately removing some drinks that were not finished.
I got the impression they were more focused on clearing the room rather than making it a pleasant experience for the people there. I have had some good experiences with holiday Inns, but this certainly was not one of them.
I also understand that they messed up the original booking which resulted in them having to upgrade the people that booked it. This was also after trying to hike the price buy about £200 without any notice. They withdrew this excess charge after the customer threatend to cancel the whole booking.
Breakfast looked great but again was a let down. Incredibly slow in replenishing the food and after waiting for about 10 mins for hash browns, they came out and we're still frozen in the middle. The 'chef' just huffed and took them back.
Sadly I cannot recommend this place as a suitable venue for a party or celebration based on my experience from today.
