For a starter I had according to the menu was Scottish Mussels — rope grown mussels in a cream and garlic and white wine sauce. The sauce was lacking in both garlic and cream it was just a watery. When the person came to clear the pots all she could say was oh dear. For a main I had a 28 day aged prime sirloin stake with a topping of Stilton mushroom and peppercorn sauce all served with chips onion rings a half a thyme chilled tomato and fresh watercress. When it came there were no onion rings the tomato had not seen any thyme and the dish had been under a heat lamp for so long that the watercress was nearly roasted. Now there was 4 of us in our group and one of the starters was a king prawn and avocado cocktail unfortunately there was no avocado. Now all of this was ordered on the app and nobody came to ask us about our meals and nobody asked us if our meals were ok. There was a big delay in between our starters and mains. No not to be on a downer We ordered further drinks on the app and these took an agar to come. So it seems that if you order from the app they just don’t care about you at all. Seen as though our drinks were taking so long my partner went to find out what was happening and the excuse was the ticket printed off in a pile next to the till and staff could not be bothered to look at them. When the drinks eventually came the wine was the wrong bottle. Thinks just went from bad to worse.

Very disappointed!, this Hotel has so much potential, for improvement in many areas, and could be a lovely little Gem especially with the RIGHT STAFF in place, giving their complete best at all times.
On arrival we had to wait ten minutes to check in while the nice guy was completely ran off his feet serving behind bar, dealing with customers, before he could get a minute to check us and other guests in …, surly more staff are needed!
Myself as a Business owner / Manager has a morel responsibility to ensure Customers are treated with great respect at all times, in a very professional nature, however the manager (Molly) failed to do this, and seems very rude, and unapproachable! Her attitude is a great let down to what could be a very well ran establishment with the correct person in charge!

Long wait at bar, 10mins, no apology. Waiter, Terry, run of his feet poor guy. All food ordered, told no peas, as was everyone. (Why not run out to supermarket and buy large bags of frozen peas! ) Tables, dirty, sticky and over 3 centuries old. Food was ok, but not 3star. Waiters excellent but bar maid "niether pleasant, helpful or friendly" The place is just ok overall and walking thru a wave of smokers at the entrance as we left, put us off from a return. Pity, it does have potential, but for what? Sorry guys.

Great food the roast pork was fantastic.

The food was good, the room was clean and warm. Good selection of real ales. The only downside was the shower in my room was not working, so I had to wash in the hand sink.

Have a kids menu of the usual favourites plus make your own pasta dish or wrap with a big choice of fillings/toppings for both. We recommend the Chocolate Cookie Pizza with strawberries for kids dessert. Friendly staff. Welcoming. Plenty of choice on adult menu and vegan menu.

Great food, wine & ales with an attractive Inglenook fireplace. It also has friendly staff and competitive offers, as part of the Old English Inn chain. This inn is dog friendly but this was no problem for us — eating areas & rooms were kept clean & accessible.

Stopped for a meal on the way to Devon. Nice light meal but served on poor quality GREASEPROOF PAPER THAT DISINTEGRATED. Ended up eating soggy paper, who's idea it that? Please don't do that it's not nice.

Tired and needs a overhaul. Meals ho — hum and flag ship beer was going over. Great location however and plenty of parking.

Great location. The service from all the staff was very good even though they may be a little Understaffed. The breakfast was excellent.

I have eaten here around 8 months ago and had a great experience. I booked a table which was occupied by loud, foul mouthed people who we had to sit by. I have a little girl so the f word isn't really appropriate. The staff were no where to be found, meals less than average. All that was missing was a fight and some sawdust on the floor!

In need of tic. A deep clean in room we stayed in especially in bathroom. Cobwebs in bedròom. Bed comfortable. Breakfast service could be better.

£5:40 for 8 slices of toast that turned out to be warm bread. 11pm everything shut couldn’t even get a bag of crisps they don’t book to room if till shut. The dirt on top of picture frames horrendous. You’re given one hash brown on breakfast even though it clearly states two on menu Our friends pointed out… the place is tired needs some money injected into it.

Used to be an "occasion " venue, now gone downmarket. No better no worse than anywhere else in town. Parking terrible, could be easily solved with proper markings.

Booked a table. Completely ignored for 5 minutes on arrival. Staff treated customers as an inconvenience. When trying to order food were informed all our menu choices were unavailable. We left without ordering. Very disappointing experience.

I've been here a few times and enjoyed staying here. Although the hotel is in bad need of decorating and major overhaul, the staff are always nice and pleasant and the restaurant food is always excellent.

Booked in for two nights but cancelled after the first. Room was shabby, walls paper thin and could hear someone coughing all night, tap leaked from the top, water was either scalding or warm (instead of cold). Radiators not working even after a promise that they would be fixed. Door to shower required kicking to re-open. Corridor to bedrooms was filthy and a sandwich wrapper stayed on the floor all the time we were there. Breakfast very poor: rubbery omelette, curled up bacon, white grease around the mushrooms. Staff curt and unhelpful. Wine in the bar almost undrinkable. When we cancelled, the couple in front were complaining that a Rentokil insect trap had been found under their bed. When we booked into another hotel we were asked whether we had come from the Bell!

Spent 2 nights here over easter. Great interesting old hotel, we enjoyed the food and drinks, live music on Friday night. Quiet rooms which are perfectly ok, though not immaculate, were clean. The creaky corridors add to the character of the place and set opposite the abbey, Tewkesbury was very interesting. Our thanks in particular to Jamaica who was always helpful!

The bed was comfy. But that's where the good ends. My girlfriend and a friend got food poisoning from a steak and a pulled pork meal. For breakfast we got served toast with mould on it and had an ant walk out of the granola bowl on the breakfast bar. Our room wasn't great either. The shower switch, changing the tap from bath to shower, didn't work, the bath itself was filthy and dead moths fell out of the shower curtain. The bathroom floor was dirty and left our feet covered in dirt. The bed had a hole in the sheet that was coming off the bed and wouldn't stay on. The headboard was worn and could do with replacing. The cups in our room were stained before use and there was a used spoon on the table when we arrived. The rentakill trap under the desk was also a little worrying. Be warned if you're in room 24

Four adults and five dogs in the bar for breakfast! Made very welcome, and tasty food too! Went back next day for special offer Sunday roast for £5, huge plateful, good quality, amazing value!

Hi the hotel is a beautiful building. But the rooms are tired. As is the landings and corridors. On the plus side the beds were spotless. The bathroom was clean. We enjoyed the meal, although my first and second choice were sold out The breakfast was lovely although service was slow. This is no reflection on the waitress. She was on her own trying to serve guests, clear tables and bring room out of kitchen. They need to employ at least amother waiter. Ask for a room nearer to river than road or else you will hear the traffic. We realised this straight away so we ask to change rooms. We were moved without any bother.

I went with a friend on a Friday evening. There was a folk band playing which were excellent. The atmosphere was great and the staff were courteous and helpful.

We have visited the bar and restaurant, which was lovely. Quite good options for vegetarians and some vegan ones too. Nice Tudor interior and warm atmosphere.

Wonderful hotel great location and lovely staff. Only one fault needs new toilet seat in room 9. Had a lovely birthday break on 22dec and thanks for the wine xx.

A typical coach house type place with age, quaint with a relaxing feel.

Great food, convenient breakfast times, Great staff, free car park, free wi fi, "POWERful shower" and they even have a KETTLE in the rooms for a wee cup of tea.

Love this hotel built In1696 still looking good love the fact it hasn't been modernised staff very nice @friendly rooms basic but good @ breakfast good and nothing is to much trouble the staff.

I stopped here for just one night and I found the service to be excellent. The room I stayed in was good and all amenities provided — the evening meal and breakfast was served promptly and food cooked to perfection — overall I would recommend anyone to enjoy a visit and experience the trained staff and their excellent service.

Food excellent. Bar service a little chaotic until manager on scene. Friday night probably not the best time to start a brand new barmaid. Heartily recommend the bone-in rib of beef with pulled pork! Be very hungry!

Had a confirmed booking on this last bank holiday weekend. Checked with them at 11am and after a bit of a confusion they confirmed the booking. Asked me to come at 2pm at their normal check in time. Reached their at 2pm. They gave me the key to room number 17. Went inside the room to see that it was a mess in there. The bed was in the bathroom, lots of dirty towels and bedsheet all over and so on. Checked with the room service and they said the room was out of service. Went back to reception and they said we'll clean the room now. After 20mins they said the bathroom is not working. They said they'll refund the money and we can go and book somewhere else. It was the bank holiday weekend and it would difficult for me to find another availability nearby at the last moment. So unprofessional and irresponsible. I'm from India for a short work assignment here and I'm sure they wouldn't behave like this to someone from this country. Very bad. Will never recommend this to anyone. Try Jessop house hotel next to it. Very nice, clean and friendly people over there.

Ten minutes later our cutlery and sauces were brought to the table
Roast and mash spuds were a bit re-heated and veg was not that good either
Nice Yorkshire pud though and beef was cooked well but not very hot
Gravy was a bit watery and Luke warm Despite this we cleared the plate as we were both hungry having not eaten since breakfast Not somewhere I would recommend or rush back to unfortunately.

Shocking, having travelled 8hrs from Scotland with two young children we were looking for something cheap and cheerful to eat. Kids food was inedible and after sending it back once the second attempt was no better (Chicago town pizza microwaved to within seconds of combustion), my Cajun chicken pasta was so dry it could have been cooked last week. So disappointed that we left without waiting for the dessert we had already paid for. Steer well clear!

Now five starts may seem a little over generous but the staff were faultless, from the poor guy who seemed to have been left on his own on the Friday when we booked in until after breakfast on the Saturday morning (I don't know how much you pay him but it's seriously not enough). To the polite young lady doing the bedrooms. The Hotel is very old and as such you should expect the odd few creaks here and there as well as some less than perfectly level floors which add to the charm of the place. Our evening meal was really nice and good value too.

What a lovely pub. Stayed in Tewkesbury For a couple of days but wanted a proer Sunday dinner so for £5.99 (after 5pm) we went into The Bell. Food was delicious and hot and plenty of it. Will certainly be going here again and definitely recommend for friendly staff and great food.

They need to invest in the staff. Pay more and get better staff or train them to a sufficient level.

Decided to eat at the Bell as it looked like a great place from the outside, we were not disappointed, food was excellent. Myself and my family would definitely eat there again.

We had a table booked here to have a meal before going to a concert at the very nearby abbey. We gave ourselves an hour and a half to eat. It was a family get-together so we wanted to enjoy a meal together before the concert. We arrived. Despite having previously booked we were told there was a 30 min wait on food. Fair enough we ordered as quickly as possible. 40 minutes later I went to enquire when our food was going to arrive. We were told they would check with the kitchens. No feedback on this ever arrived. After an hour I went to ask about the food and told them about the concert. We still had 30 mins at this point. We were told 5 mins till food would come. After 1 hour 15 we were told they we just putting the 'finishing touches' to our food. After 1 hour 25 we asked for a refund and were given it and went to the concert having not eaten! I will reiterate we had booked a table. I wouldn't mind if they had been honest with me at any point along the way and admitted that they couldn't feed us. I would have grabbed some food somewhere else and not written a bad review. My dad is nearly 75 and said he's never had that happen to him before. Maybe he's very lucky or maybe the Bell Hotel is truly the worse eating place he's been to in 75 years. There are lots of other pubs in Tewkesbury. I would advise that you went to one of those instead.

Very tired building and furnishings very much in need of a make over, but a very comfortable bed and the staff were very helpfull. Take your ear defenders we now why its called the Bell — The Abbey clock chimes every quarter of an hour though the night.

My partner and I recently stayed at the Bell Hotel in Tewkesbury and were delighted with everything from housekeeping to the great food in the restaurant. Every staff member we met was polite and friendly and not reluctant to give us the time of day. We shall definately stay there again and recommend it to everyone. Carole Samlesbury, Preston.
