Popped in for a bite to eat at lunchtime. We were seated quickly on a lovely table despite it being busy. Ordered 2 ciders, a Caesar Salad and a Ham & Cheese sandwich and some fries. This came to a whopping £45.00! Not the best salad and all in all pretty tasteless as well as very expensive!
Such a shame as a lovely spot in town.

Lovely evening with friends in the garden for pizza and drinks. Very well managed, well spaced tables yet relaxed. Highly recommended.

Lovely place nice polite staff and good food. There afternoon tea was wonderful. Lymington a lovely place as a base for exploring the New Forest. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again.

We have been coming to Stanwell House Hotel every year for the last 8 years. It truly has to be one of my favourite places to visit. I feel well and truly spoiled from the moment we check in. All the staff can not do enough for you. The rooms are heaven, nicely decorated with lovely little touches and so comfortable. The food is out of this world and the service second to none. This visit you had a new cocktail barman and I have to say the cocktails were amazing. We enjoyed it so much we hope to fit in a second visit this year.

Have just returned home from having a Birthday coffee in the conservatory this morning. The coffee was nice, and the staff attentive. However, I struggled up two sets of steps with a pushchair whilst your reception staff just stood there and watched on without a word. I know the world doesn’t revolve around people with babies, but common decency means you usually get a helping hand up steps because getting pushchairs up them isn’t that easy. It doesn’t take much. Really unimpressed and I won’t come back in a hurry.

Popped in for a simple lunch. Excellent service and lovely food all at a reasonable price.

Loved our stay at Stanwell. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere gives off a very welcoming vibe. The room (Suite 2) was spacious and well appointed with complementary filtered water, coffee and tea. It had a private patio which was lovely. The room is a bit pink for my taste and did get warm at night, we only realised that there is a fan on the morning we were checking out. The hotel had a couple of restaurants Etain and Burchers and C…o. Etain is more fine dining and we could not fault it. Food was elegant refined and delicious. Loved the Italian Chardonnay — Trebbiano. Butcher more relaxed steak and burger place. Very nice — they had market fish available and the plaice with samphire broccoli and steamed potatoes was gorgeous, perfectly cooked. We were visiting over a bank holiday so were a bit disappointed to find out Etain closed on Sunday and Monday night — perhaps schedules could be moved around for bank holidays? Also seemed to run out of a few dishes by Monday night after the bank holiday weekend. Recommend booking for Etain as the do get busy. Breakfast was outstanding! A great Continental selection on the buffet with croissants freshly baked in the morning and then one of the staff taking your order for hot food. The haddock and poached eggs were fantastic, but the locally sourced bacon and sausages were sublime (unfortunately ran out of sausages on the Tuesday morning after the bank holiday weekend).

Fantastic quality steak in the restaurant and friendly attentive staff. Well worth visiting.

Very good service and excellent to detail to ensure my dietary needs were catered for. The only disappointment was not being able to sit in the conservatory. Will definitely return. Staff were friendly and attentive and made us feel very welcome.

Sadly very poor despite high expectations — real uncertainty over a dairy free afternoon despite being booked in advance — spread or no spread and cake with cream for scones and no ham on a ham and cucumber sandwich — really brightened up an 8 year olds day. Add in to that staff who didn’t seem to want to understand or take accountability and having to ask for basics like cuttlery and then spoons too big for the glass of vanilla whatever and over all I’d say pretty poor. Nice venue and was with amazing friends but what should have been a real celebration became a running joke of “what’s next “. If there’s local competition for an afternoon tea they must love you for afternoons like this sadly. Hopefully just a one off but as regular visitors to the area I wouldn’t rush back.

We visited for afternoon tea as my parents had recommended the hotel. All of the cakes & sandwiches looked lovely and tried all of the selection. Personally I would say it was a very generous amount to eat & drink, didn't quite manage to finish it all. They had run out of the tiered stands when we were booked in for the tea, but to me this didn't really make a difference as the food selection was excellent! Would definitely recommend and revisit.

This seems a little past its best on first arrival. Everything seems a bit worn and over-used. The receptionist seemed a little too keen to use corporate marketing talk, like adding "today" or "for you" on the end of every sentence. She seemed very insincere. The two-roomed suite was also disappointing and not worthy of the name. Basically, the bedroom had an en-suite on one side, a window on the next, and a corridor around the other two sides that spiralled out to the door. So you enter into a wide corridor containing a large cupboard that has a fold-down double bed. Straight ahead is a sofa, and a telly, and these occupy the corner where you turn left. On your right is a double door leading to a terrace with a slight view. At the end of this corridor is a left turn to the bedroom, but with no door. So it is a strange layout. The bedroom is well lit at night through the curtain because there is a glazed roof cafe area below. Bed is comfortable and clean. Bathroom is well-equipped and clean. In the end we enjoyed it there. It is well situated in the High Street and everything in Lymington is nearby. I think I would recommend it but not enthusiastically.

Good hotel great staff, brilliant bar service and night porter just overall very good however, on review of my bill when checking out, found I’d been overcharged for prosecco, indeed I hadn’t even ordered any so, surprised to see it on my bill when, you have to sign for all things charged to your room, noticed the error once I’d arrived home, contacted hotel a quick response, money will be refunded, an innocent mistake but a frustrating one and one that shouldn’t happed, £30 imagine if we all got charged extra… Just expect a higher standard truly wished they hadn’t made he mistake and this review wouldn’t be tainted… ::

I had to provisionally book 4 rooms for 2 nights for a film crew which we sadly were unable to go ahead with due to our schedule, but Liz the Reservations manager could not have been more helpful! We had lots of requirements for our provisional stay and she was able to answer all my questions and put additional things in place to suit our needs. She really went above and beyond to put everything in place for us, and I really hope we get to confirm a booking soon! Excellent customer service and a really great experience even though we didn't stay!

Charming boutique hotel, very nice inside and well situated on Lymington high st. There's a nice lounge and terrace for drinks and breakfast. There's also an inner lounge which had a big projector screen which I thought brought the place down a little, put people off sitting in there. We had dinner in the restaurant, tapas style starters (enormous), fish main (good but not great) and lemon Tarte dessert (poor, seemed to have been defrosted not fresh). I'm tall and found the bed very very short (unusually so) and the room was fine but nothing special. Good drinks selection and good staff. A comfier room would have made it 4 stars.

Lovely hotel. Perfectly clean, beautiful decoration, and friendly, helpful staff. Thoroughly enjoyed staying here for a wedding. The staff are well organised, and everything moved without a problem. Definitely recommended.

Stunning hotel, walk through into the conservatory or into the lovely garden, you get the best service here and it's the little extra. S that make it so special, try there breakfast basket plenty for two, also afternoon tea. S are one of the best.

Great location in the middle of town. Friendly Staff. Clean — well stocked & serviced rooms. My only grizzle would be the water pressure of the shower was very weak. But everything else was really good.

Staff aloof to the point of rudeness, slow service, poor food. A member of our party complained and was just brushed off, no apology. Avoid, plenty of other nice places to eat.

My wife and I had an overnight stay with evening dinner. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was very nice indeed. We had a garden room right by the restaurant so it was a little noisy but was not too much of a problem. The food was gorgeous and they have a great choice of drinks in the bar. Perfect location for enjoying this lovely little part of the New Forest.

Visited for a champagne afternoon tea for two, beautiful hotel with excellent attentive service, lovely variety of sandwiches & afternoon scones/desserts.

I can't say what the hotel is like as I have never stayed there but I have visited the resturant several times. Best afternoon tea I have ever had, sandwiches and scones are fresh as they come. The cakes are also fantastic, everyone in our party of 12 thoroughly enjoyed everything that was served. The staff are friendly, courteous and attentive too. Stop in for a bite sometime you won't regret it.

Absolutely fabulous hotel. Cosy & smart, ideal for a romantic stay, especially at Christmas. Highly recommend the Champagne Afternoon Tea as it offers an array of tasty treats and plenty of tea. Dinner was excellent too in Burcher & Co. Staff welcoming and eager to please… Check out the special Sunday DB&B rates. Can't wait to stay again.

A great location, comfortable rooms and very friendly and helpful staff, an altogether enjoyable experience. Our visit was to celebrate a special occasion and the Stanwell House made it very special indeed. The food was excellent and the service matched.

Booked for 2 nights B&B through Secret Escapes. Check in was efficient and friendly. It took a while to find the car park  (It's off Cannon Street, through the public pay and display car park, spaces are limited). Our 1st floor 'garden room' was at the rear of the hotel and was very quiet. The bed was very comfortable, the decor pleasing and not corporate. Minor criticism; the over bath shower mixer was temperamental, lacked pressure and the screen didn't fit leading to a puddle on the floor. The breakfast was very good and was cooked to order. Great choice of cereal, fruit, juice and pastries. The highlight of the stay: The politeness and helpfulness of all of the staff. For us this is so often the make or break aspect of a stay. We ate one evening meal the food was good, but I will deal with a few issues in a separate review. On balance I am happy to recommend this hotel as worth visiting. We will hope to visit again in the future. Dinner I will start with the positives: We ate an evening meal in the Burcher and Co restaurant.     We chose a rib eye and fillet steak main. Each served with mushroom, tomato and watercress. Extra vegetables were a hefty  £3.50 per portion. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was very well cooked and tasty. A few gripes: The tables are so trendy that they  verge on impractical, holes and chunks missing from the real wood tops mean that glasses and cutlery came close to disappearing onto the floor.

A warm welcome at this boutique hotel. Well appointed rooms each with its own design. Dinner at the hotel exceeded our expectations! Breakfast didn't disappoint either! All staff were charming and helpful and are good ambassadors for the hotel. We enjoyed a visit to Mottisfont Abbey and a coastal stroll. We hope to come back soon!

Didn't prebook this stay but just walked in on the off chance and were more than pleased and in fact booked an extra night. The room was lovely and the breakfast choice more than adequate and the cooked breakfast cooked and presented to perfection. We also ate in the restaurant two evenings and again thoroughly enjoyed the food again cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we would stay there again. Definitely would recommend to others.

Staff fantastic. Breakfast great. Room very clean. Air conditioning? (Not in our room) Decor ok the only things spoiling the place is very dark well used furniture and far too heavy and bulky out of date curtains.

Not impressed… We came for a day out in Lymington and thought we would have a nice lunch here, having seen the restaurant on previous visits and thinking how nice it looks. Can't fault the decor, very stylish and fresh. The food however was really very disappointing. We had eggs Florentine, eggs Benedict, soup and a belly pork side dish. After a huge wait (approximately 40 minutes) with no word or sign of our food we called a waiter over and were informed, when he returned from the kitchen that our food was imminent as it was on the hot plate. When it arrives both the egg dishes were hard boiled solid! And barely warm. The muffin was cold and only very slightly toasted (if at all) and the pork dish was cold, dry and very tough. The soup was, at least, good… We informed the waiter of our disappointment and told us he would speak to the chef, when he returned he never mentioned what the chef had said and offered free coffee or our existing 2 small cokes and a tap water for free. I personally feel that we should not have had to pay for the meal, and, having worked in this trade, would have at least have told the customer that the chef was sorry. We will most certainly not be returning and will not be recommending to others. Extremely disappointing.

Decent hotel. Room was one of the Garden rooms which I believe are on the larger side compared to the others, however coffee machine didn't work and shower pressure was weak. Great bar full of interesting gins though! Would stay again.

Extremely nice. Small enough to be friendly and attentive, but large enough to ensure the professional standard you'd expect. Great as a wedding venue.

Excellent hotel, which I consider to be more of a 4 star hotel than 3 star. The rooms were clean, the bed was comfortable and the included breakfast was exceptional. On top of that the staff were polite and always made you feel very welcome. Parking is the only issue, as the free car park gets full quite quickly.

Went for lunch on a bank holiday… had not booked. Shown to a table by the door to the kitchen, but was able to move across into the conservatory area when a table became free. The food was good, we had a soup and fish and chips. However the food came before the drinks (which we had ordered first) and we had to ask again for the drinks to be brought to us. We ordered a white wine, a juice and a fizzy water. The staff were friendly and willing to help when asked, but service was a little slow for a lunch time. We never did get the fizzy water.

I can't comment on the rooms because I've not stayed there, so this is just a review of the restaurant. I have given it 5 stars because the meal I had (three different British tapas dishes) was quite possibly the best food I've ever eaten. I only wish I'd had a bit more room to finish it. I also had a very nice latte (served with some fudge! ) and bottle of tap water, which tasted great. Total price was only £16.70. If you dine before 6pm, the same tapas and a small glass of wine is only £10, so I will be returning one day soon. The service from my waitress, Erin, was excellent and I liked the atmosphere as well. Very very happy I decided to give this place a try.

The best afternoon tea in the south. I have had afternoon tea at Stanwells on numerous occasions and I have enjoyed it every time. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Great selection of finger sandwiches, scrummy warm scones and a huge selection of delicious treats washed down with various choices of warm drinks or a glass of bubbles if feeling cheeky! The whole surroundings are stunning and very relaxing. Definitely worth a visit.

Nice place, but service was terrible had to wait 20 minutes for two coffee's, had to beg to Pay bill, receptionist could not be assed. Where going to stay here next time now won't be.

Good service and food, unfortunately we did not want to stay long and it was difficult to get the attention of the waiters to get the bill, which was the only letdown.

We were in room 38 which is definitely due a refurb. Was expecting a better quality room for our money. The rest of the hotel and facilities were great though, breakfast was good too.

We had a fantastic night away at Stanwell House hotel – ideal high street setting is so convenient with plenty to do, yet not too busy to feel rested. Parking was not a problem, as Stanwells have a generously sized carpark very near to the hotel given the location. The staff were very pleasant, genuine and helpful. Upon arrival we were checked in and shown the facilities and welcomed into our wonderful room. We had the pleasure of staying in room 34, which has been recently refurbished to a VERY high standard, the bedroom is of a modern yet homely style, with modern fixtures and wonderful lighting. The bathroom has just about the best shower I’ve ever come across – body massagers, a regular shower head and a waterfall head the size of a dinner plate – wow! The bath is large, comfortable and freestanding, looks very nice indeed. The room overlooks the high street, and had a small sitting room with a comfortable sofa. I would highly recommend staying in room 34, couldn’t be happier with the room. Fast Wi-Fi, and good ironing facilities too. We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. We ate in the Seafood restaurant, which has a lovely ambience and a superb selection of fresh fish, masterfully presented and cooked to perfection by the Chef on the night, Ben. The front of house staff were very friendly, happy to fulfill any requests, and ensuring all was running smoothly, but without becoming too involved, as is much too common nowadays.

Definitely try out the Garden Suites! They are amazing.

Service can be a bit random but this is the back and beyond not a London 5* hotel. Staff are all well meaning. Great food, even with such a large evening menu. Fish is excellent. Breakfast is great — love black pudding when done like this.
