Incredible location, nothing is too much trouble. You can come here for any occasion, family, anniversary, birthday, post lockdown and I guarantee it will be worth it. Highly recommend afternoon tea if you can sit outside.

Just had the best afternoon tea at The Painswick. Beautiful surroundings, brilliant service and what I can only describe as the best afternoon tea I've ever eaten. My daughter asked if we could eat it every day. Highly recommended.

We arrived today, beautiful hotel, fabulous room, great cocktails and an amazing meal tonight. We are celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and so far can’t fault this place. Looking forward to another night …

Popped in for coffee but couldn’t resist a bowl of cheesy chips and wonderful homemade scones — best ever tasted. The Tattinger was excellent too. Perfect afternoon sitting on the terrace in the sunshine.

Lovely hotel. Fabulous cream tea, slight problem with wasps but hey that’s nature. Staff were friendly and attentive would recommend it for a relaxing experience.

Delightful, in a beautiful village. Very friendly staff beautiful views from the terrace. Had a Sunday roast which was of superb quality. If I offer to wash the dishes free of charge for a week, please could I have the recipe for the pea soup it was the most delicious soup I have ever tasted thank you for a lovely visit! x.

Superb service and quality food. Drinks are ridiculously expensive but then it’s expected at this type of venue.

I have just got back from an Afternoon Tea treat for my very best friends birthday. I have had Afternoon Teas before but this was the most enjoyable and luxurious one of them all. The service was impeccable and we felt very well looked after. Thank you so very much for such a wonderful afternoon. We will be back to sample the spa very soon x.

Lovely food. Friendly staff. A bit short on Parking spaces and you need deep pockets. But worth every penny. I would love to dine hear again.

The service is excellent; the food is a foodie's paradise, all wrapped up in a relaxed environment.

Hotel was pleasant and the staff were generally very accommodating, for example, they provided us with bikes to have a cycle between the local villages and served us breakfast after we woke up late and missed the breakfast scheduled times. Despite the building architecture being lovely and the staff being generally pleasant and helpful, I would say that 4 things were pretty awful and made me feel very uncomfortable; 1. Upstairs movement and noise — on the first night and morning, the upstairs room was very noisy due to excessive movement and so the roof was perpetually, loudly creaking. It sounded as if the occupants were excessively moving for hours upstairs which woke both my girlfriend and I up early on and was generally awkward and unpleasant. We were going to ask for a room move if it continued but the upstairs occupants departed before the second evening. 2. Double bed — the ‘double bed’ was actually two small single beds of different mattress heights and structure joined together, meaning that it was generally uncomfortable and felt like a very cheap bodge job, not a luxury hotel. It felt like we were in two separate beds, which as you can imagine is in no way romantic. 3. Curtains — the curtains didn’t join in the middle and so there was a perpetual light from outside — either at night, with the outside lighting being bright and left on until late, or obviously in the morning from sunrise onwards. As such, didn’t sleep well. 4.

Popped in for a little birthday lunch — lovely setting with attentive staff. One of our group mentioned in passing that it was my birthday and this was picked up by a passing waitress … when it came to dessert they popped a candle on it! What great service and attentive staff. The waitress had clearly passed this on to the kitchen staff. Interior is fantastic, food was spot on and the price was reasonable. Will defiantly be going here again!

Luke and the Painswick team were amazing to work with for planning our 25th Anniversary party via email all the way from the US. We arrived by horse and carriage, had amazing cocktails on the veranda and then a completely spectacular bespoke dinner for 10 in the Clutterbucks Room. Luke was incredibly accommodating of everything we had envisioned and we had the most amazing time! Every logistical detail in working with a florist, a cake baker, a decor team, the carriage driver, and myself was carried out splendidly. Everyone that was there was impressed with the venue, food and service and would love to come back! Thanks again!

Each and everyone to their own. Food was fine and staff were friendly but for me the place just needed to relax a little and find its natural charm. Felt like I could have been in a london restuarant when what I wanted was the country and the Cotswolds. Car park was full of London tractors.

Lovely hotel. The staff were very attentive, a credit to their training. Wonderful views and a charming atmosphere that made you feel especially welcome. The food was very nice, top quality ingredients cooked to a high standard. My only criticism would be room maintenance. Our room had a water damaged bath panel, loose mirror fixings, and peeling window sill paint. This attention to detail is the only reason I have given 4 stars. The service could not be faulted. The next time I need to stay in the area, I will be staying at the Painswick. A big thankyou for a lovely stay. Keep up the fantastic work.

We were married here last August, Luke and his team are true professionals, nothing was too much trouble, everything on the day was truly wonderful.
Last night we had dinner to celebrate my birthday and stayed in one of the sumptuous rooms where the attention to detail is incredible.
There is nothing negative to say about The Painswick.
If you are lucky enough to be planning a visit to The Cotswolds then book in where the food is delicious, rooms are luxurious and the staff are wonderful.

Loved the venue and the views are amazing, but although the food was good it was in very small portions and wasn't good enough to justify the extortionate prices. I don't mind paying for quality and/or quality but this didn't fully deliver to it's hefty price tag on either count sadly.

Immaculate hotel with excellent food and faultless service. We had our wedding reception there and our every need was pandered to. It manages to bridge the gap of homeliness and luxury with perfection.

Expected a lot from this having really enjoyed our visits to it's sister hotel, The Calcot. Lets start off with the positives. Lovely location, great building, brilliant decor. We went for a family lunch to celebrate a birthday. The wine was great and the food potentially very good — our roast cod was done to prefection. The negatives — the staff, brusque no smiles, innatentive. Some ordered creme brulee with mixed berry sorbet. When it turned up there was just a dollop of vanilla ice cream… it was the sorbet that attracted them to the dish. When we asked where the sorbet was they said they'd look into it. After 10 mins the answer was, "we're out of the sorbet". But that was why we ordered it. Came back again with "well we have some rasberry sorbet". Similarly with the main course, we didn't spot that vegtables were not included but we had a choice of them at the bottom of the menu. Now good staff would know all these things and say when you ordered "Do you want any vegetables or a salad with your mai"n, and pointed out the choices. Equally they would have said "Sorry we're out of the mixed fruit sorbet but we can offer you vanilla ice cream or rasberrry sorbet instead". Given that the mains alone were £22 per head and all in we were over £60 per head for the adults, we expect the sort of service where kitchen and front of house communicate, the waiting staff know the menu inside out and any problems with the menu before service begins.

Fabulous location, friendly staff. Sadly, portion of food at lunch was very small, 'salmon served with lemon infused vegetables' big let down as if there was more than a 1/4 of a carrot or half a spring onion I would be most surprised and I couldn't taste any lemon at all, the gin and ginger cured salmon was tasteless as well, but it looked beautiful on plate, (maybe indicate this is more of a starter than a lunch main meal choice? ) The overall setting of hotel and gardens more than made up for the disappointment regarding food choice. Will come again and hopefully make a better choice on menu.

The rooms are very well appointed, the staff is very nice, and the restaurant provides delicious food. Be prepared for the usual narrow roads.

It's fine. Service is good though perhaps a little snooty. Food is unadventurous, fairly good but certainly isn't a bargain. I expect if you're wealthy enough to be a regular you'd be well looked after.

I honestly think this is probably my all time favourite hotel. Unfortunately we could only stay for one night but my wife and I absolutely loved it. The hotel has recently been refurbished and it has been beautifully done. The interior designer really nailed a vibe that is hip enough for a young London crowd but done in such a classy, very warm, relaxing and inviting way that it doesn't alienate the rest of the world. Astonishing attention to detail everywhere you look. I've never seen staff so enthusiastic about their work environment. They clearly love the hotel's new look and were incredibly cheerful and helpful. We ate dinner and breakfast in the gorgeous dining room (love the sanded but not varnished herringbone wood floor and stripped wooden doors and window frames that have been left as raw wood! ) and the food was excellent. We would be back in a heartbeat if we could. In fact, at one point during our stay, we figured out how many nights we could spend in The Painswick if we sold our house! No other hotel in the world has inspired me to figure that out.

This was my first visit since the refurbishment, adn it looks stunning. Part of the Calcot collection, it's no surprise that the styling and design is spot on. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, stunning views from the terrace and rooms, and a wide range of drinks and food to suit most tastes. Highly recommended.

Fantastic food and interesting decor. A really lovely place to eat with extremely friendly staff. We had the tasting menu and for me, it was the most wonderful food I have ever had.
