Have just had the loveliest evening, the food was amazing and already can’t wait to come back. The staff are lovely and the manager is amazing. A wonderful dining experience and lovely night out.

Just had lunch here, good was fabulous and the service spot on. Highly recommended.

The menu is varied and lovely food to suit everyone’s taste. The perfect venue for my family to celebrate my 70th birthday today and my husbands 70th week. Just a lovely Ely cosy atmosphere.

We were put on a table at the back of the pub hardly room for 8 people on the table. One chair fell apart I had to lift over everyone to swap it out. Main meals were not big enough for the prices charged. E. G £3.50 for 7 chips! Where we were placed only had one light in the very corner of the room so was really too dark. The sweet named as Eton mess was extremely disappointing it was not as anyone would expect, even the lady that delivered them called it eton tidy! The part saving grace was the pleasant staff. But not enough to go back.

Great find. Hotel: What a fantastic boutique hotel and pub. Each of the small number of rooms is decorated in a unique way. All of them have a unique feature which makes each of them a delight to stay in. My favourite is mushroom with the lovely balcony area you can sit on and watch the sheep in the fields. They have excellent tea& coffee (nespresso) facilities — including a jar of shortbread. The bath facilities are lovely with branded shampoo, conditioner and soap. Pub: lovely place to sit for a few drinks come summer or winter. Restaurant : A fantastic selection of dishes with unique features but one theme — fantastic tasting food that respects each of the ingredients that goes into it. I’ve had some of my favourite meals there and I’ve tried to replicate them at home but it’s just not possible. Breakfast: a fresh, modern selection of foods including a unique selection of ingredients such as a particular type of eggs I had with the darkest tastiest yoke I have ever eaten. Overall, once you come here you’ll want to come back. A business that truly deserves to thrive.

So-called slow-roasted shoulder of lamb turned out to be a greasy "cake" of shredded lamb. Very underwhelming and disappointing. Wish I'd had the roast beef instead which was proper meat.

Good food and service. Good outdoor seating area. With countryside views. Large car park at Side of road. Clean and modern rooms. Excellent freshly cooked food made to order and breakfast.

Rooms exceptional for pub rooms and have separate entrance to the pub building. Food and service were excellent. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Very disappointing! We both had a hamburger and chips. You would think you can't go wrong with this. Well they did: very poor quality meat, dense and tough, the whole thing not hot and caramelized onions entirely cold. Chips were ok but not a good experience altogether. And this was after a mini bread loaf as appetizer that we sent back as hard as nails. We had been there several times before and enjoyed it. NOT THIS TIME! But the service by the young waitress was good. Something to praise!

Excellent meal in a lovely cosy pub atmosphere. Our vegetarian niece said the veggie risotto was the best veggie meal she had ever eaten! The only negative was the compulsory service charge, I’m happy to reward good service, but object to being told how much I should leave!

Gourmet food served by friendly staff in a traditional pub atmosphere. Wonderful warming log fires on what was a very snowy weekend. The chef-proprietor went miles out of his way (literally! ) when our taxi failed to turn up and he drove us to our destination himself. Very highly recommended.

Lovely pub and the food was delicious. They also have a playground for kids outside which is fantastic.

Booked all the rooms for our wedding for 2 nights and for this coming June and had a breakfast sorted at 10 per person for a breakfast buffet style including tea/coffee morning after the wedding for 40-50ppl. Rang to check on the booking 8 months after originally booking to double check everything was good and was told that the breakfast was now 20 per person excluding tea/coffee. When I asked why this had changed I was told that it had changed 6 months ago and that our breakfast booking was now invalid unless we paid the higher cost. Extremely disgusted with how this was handled and that if I hadn't of rung to check that the breakfast booking would of been double the cost and a disaster. Highly recommend avoiding this venue and their poor management.

Excellent! My wife was taken by 3 girlfriends to lunch here for her birthday and they all enjoyed a delicious meal — complete with Happy Birthday plate and candle in a pomegranate balloon. A great local eaterie with a very good chef and helpful, friendly staff!

We had such a lovely time, welcomed back to the Mole and Chicken (after 8 years! ) and I have to say the standard was just as high as it was then! Friendly, knowledgeable staff, set in a homely old pub, with a log fire burning away. Perfect! We went for the Belly of Pork with scollops, which was stunning, along with the wine and cocktails 10/10 in all departments. We look forward to returning soon, to try out the rest of the menu thank you again!

Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. Don't have the burger poor quality meat. Very rubbery go for something like a steak! Seriously no to the burger! Starters very good!

Great place, fairly rural so taxi or driving required but well worth the visit. The duck salad is the recommendation I've had from people so I tried it tonight, wow, didn't expect that, what a lovely little salad with a punch of flavour. Also had the beef short rib as part of the Xmas menu, again, wow, it was so good. 2 courses £27, some would say pricey but it's a palatal experience imo. Service was quick and friendly and the food was fairly quick too despite how busy the place was.

Lovely B&B, comfortable rooms with outstanding food. English breakfast was a real highlight. Close to Notley Abbey wedding venue.

Attentive & friendly service, delicious tagliatelle & burger. They made an elderflower spritzer on request which wasn't on their menu.

Thankful we were lucky enough to get a table on Sunday for bank holiday… however first of all it took over 30 minutes for our starters to arrive and there were only two then one was hot and one was cold… Thankful it was taken off the bill but was not worth the 30 minutes we waited. I had the rump on lamb it was slightly under done for my taste however was nice. But when the bill came I was shocked to see that it cost £19.95 for 3 small pieces of lamb no larger than two cubes of choclate put together. Also shocked to find a double vodka just for the shot was £9.10! Also my mother's fillet steak for £26.00 was also tiny and £1.70 for a glass of sparkling water! Service was brilliant lovely guys and girls but I will not be going back due to I don't believe that it is worth the money you pay.

Went here for my birthday last year and the food was pretty good though it all was a bit. Ramped (15 of us) by the window.

Great service. Dining room was a tasteful balance of contemporary and classical. Good food. Stayed overnight and the rooms were lovely. Nice views during the day.

The pub is in an idyllic location — lovely, peaceful views from the pub garden and some of the rooms. Both the restaurant and the rooms are furbished very tastefully, with surprising attention to detail. The staff are very friendly and the service is pleasant, although the first time we stayed here we didn't get the table we had booked for dinner with the strange excuse that the people who were sat at it did not speak English, so the staff couldn't move them… The food is of good standard, however we thought a bit overpriced for what it is. The rooms, however, are not all of the same standard. The first time we stayed here, we were in the so called 'Mushroom Room', which was superb — very stylish, with a patio and a beautiful view.

A beautiful place to eat, drink and stay.
The staff are wonderful, nothing too much trouble for them, especially as our family took over all of their rooms.
The lady who served our breakfast on Friday 19th, I think Penny, was especially lovely.
All round a wonderful stay for all of us and would definitely recommend to anyone.
Anyone who has difficulty with stairs should ask for room 1, the Duck Egg room, as straight off a very quiet road and only one small step down to the bathroom. I loved this room.

What a wonderful evening. Great dinner with attentive service and a lovely view of the sunset. Cute little room with overstuffed mattress and the sound of cows as a morning alarm. Fantastic breakfast too! Definitely hope to be back.

Absolutely immaculate 10/10. Stayed 1night. Room was excellent. View from room was amazing and so far breakfast is just as good. I will try to stay here again.

Had to wait approximately half an hour to be seated, despite booking. Food was ok — potatoes underdone and not enough of them, veg under cooked. Disappointed considering the price. Took my ten year-old son to the toilet, and was greeted with tasteful topless posters over the urinals, which he found highly amusing. Surely not necessary though, aye guys?

5/4/13 Visited on Easter Monday with a group of 16 people, pub interesting, views excellant, service good & prompt, we chose from the bar menu & the food was awful pork thia curry complete with gristle, bone & fat, greasey steak sandwich, poor qualitycuts of meat, small portions @ over the top prices. Would not eat there again.
