Went there on a Tuesday for their pub classics deal that evening (can't remember exactly but something like a meal and a pint for a tenner). Mixed feelings. One person in our party had the fish and chips which looked spectacular — chunky golden battered fish with chunky chips. I had the ham, egg and chips which was very disappointing by comparison — thin slices of ham and fries instead of chips! It is good value for money in this neck of the woods though, just don't bother with the ham, egg and chips!

Booked a double room at £120+ per night. It was so small, about 11ft by 8ft. Nowhere to sit other than on the bed. One description stated all double rooms overlook courtyard or the green opposite, not mine. The windows were obscured glass anyway so I couldn't even see through them. Had to ask for an iron as there wasn't one in the room. Oh Lord, the one that was located was terrible. The cover didn't fit the board, made it difficult to use. Shower was a tad mouldy but the unit itself was hot n powerful. Good towels but no towel rail, tried drying them over the shower screen but stayed damp. The pillows weren't very supportive but the bed was comfy. Needed to turn TV volume up when shower was running or loo was flushing in room next door. The wall behind the headboard even vibrated. Walls were a bit scuffed but the colour scheme was very nice. I only ate breakfast which could be chosen from a fair selection. Restaurant looked lovely. I'm not a dog lover and wish I had noticed that the hotel is pet friendly. I wouldn't have booked. Saw the owners dog being led outside via the kitchen. The "keep closed" fire door leading from the landing to the rooms on the left was wedged open. Lovely old building that needs more staff to help it achieve its full potential.

What an amazing place to stay… this has to be experienced to understand how beautiful this place is. It has tons of caracter and the food is great. On Monday and Tuesday there is a set menu for almost £10 with an alcoholic/non alcoholic drink included. The car park is free and there is free Wi-Fi through the whole building. The room is clean and cozy with exposed beams and en-suite. We've been at the end of October and through out the building it was warm and cozy. The place exceeded our expectations indeed. For £120 a night I would say the room was a bit small but when there is breakfast included and an amazing architecture and vibe then the price is great. Thank you.

Beautiful historic building, renovated and decorated with lots of lovely touches. Very dog friendly which was great for us! Nice rooms with comfortable bed and powerful shower. Delicious breakfast. Would definitely stay again!

Fabulous place! I loved every minute of it. The hosts were wonderful and gave our puppy so much attention we could easily have felt left out. We had the full English for breakfast and didn't feel all 'greased out' which can happen and the lovely assortment of buffet continental cold meats kept Jelly happy. Dinner was sublime… and we booked a return visit in the car on the way back home! What more can you say!

The Shaven Crown in Wychwood is your quintessential English pub and hotel. It is one of the oldest hotels in the country and is steeped in history. It's 630 years old and dates back to 1384. Founded by the Cistercian monks of nearby Bruern Abbey and later used as a hunting lodge by Elizabeth I. We were lucky enough to shoot a wedding here and building is full of charm, its like stepping into a set on Game of Thrones. The courtyard is lovely and real sun trap. It makes for a perfect English wedding setting and we can't recommend it enough.

I organised a dinner here for a party of nine. Phil was incredibly helpful in advance of the booking and Evelyn was so welcoming when we arrived. The food was absolutely perfect — I couldn't fault it. The hotel itself was beautiful; I intend to return for an overnight stay! I would highly recommend.

I went for a group dinner with friends whilst staying in Shipton. The food and venue were excellent with very friendly and helpful staff. I would definitely say its worth a visit and hopefully I'll be able to try the hotel next time too!

Absolutely stunning building with fantastic original features. Superb relaxing atmosphere and pleasant welcoming owners. Prices very fair and the outdoor area is a beautiful place to have a glass of wine. Haven't tried the food yet but we are very much looking forward to doing so.

This Hotel is exceptional. A very well restored building with a fascinating story. So many little touches from the past, mounting steps by the entry being just one. Our room was superb and the bed gave us a good nights sleep. The simple soup and beef sandwich lunch was so good we should have been prepared for the dinner! Black Bream on a bed of lentils and pickled celery served with samphire. Just perfect.
The current hosts are rebuilding the Hotel's. Reputation after if became run down and they are doing it well. We wish them every success.

Called in for a quick lunch. Just had sandwiches, but the place and the food were both superb and the service competent and welcoming. An excellent lesson in impeccable presentation without ostentation.

Can't praise this place enough. Great food, beer and staff, and welcoming locals.
