An affordable, low key hotel in a beautiful location. We had realistic expectations and were not disappointed. If you must have "perfect and new" with lots of staff, then this is not for you.

Welcome to the 1940's at this tired riverside location a few miles (35mins) ealk to the nearest toen, Wallingford. Ok if you have a car maybe. The hotel is dated. Fixtures and fittings are old and tired. Damp mould in cracks on walls and expext bathroom fixings, tea facilities and TV to be wanting a refresh. Stairs to some rooms tretcherous, very narrow and steep. You cant get a foot on them which is tricky with luggage and there is no lift. No double glazing, modern bathroom, technology here. But the staff are very friendly.

Brilliant time in wonderful setting with great staff, really good food and bar manager that was a pleasure to meet. The place is being totally overhauled which will make it even better. This work did not detract from the 2 day stay. The room was very large. Cant wait to go back.

Good food but a very expensive rooms need upgrading but lovely views.

Lovely accomodation in a quaint location. Homely feel with chic decor. Love it.

We had a 3 night stay, good room with a river view. Food good, staff helpful and very friendly. Can't fault the place.

Went for event related to work. Good coffee and pastries. Friendly staff and well organised event with good facilities.

Lovely setting with a waterside view — our hotel room was lovely and spacious. The staff are very friendly and make you feel very welcome. We ate at the restaurant during our stay and it was delicious! Looking forward to breakfast this morning. Would definitely come back again — hopefully on our next visit there might be better weather so we can enjoy a walk when it's not raining!

Had a good time at the New Year's Eve party. Food especially good. Stayed extra nights 30th to 2nd. Not many people on these nights. Breakfast on last morning and evening meal on first night not great. Stayed in a lovely comfortable, quiet suite of rooms on a small hill with great views of the river Thames and Shillingford bridge.

Stopped for a drink mid walk with the kids. Place was quiet as mid week but toilets were not very clean and servicer at the bar wasn't as quick as I would have liked.

The food was not nice at all one guest had under cooked chicken witch put the whole table off the food. Stayed here one night. We went to the room overwhelmed by a peculiar smell it was minty and undertones of a musty smell. Got a bad night's sleep. Woke up and had a bad chest. And damp clothes. Sure the overpowering smell was covering or tying to cover up the smell of mould. Shower was a waste of time mixer taps, in need of a make over. Could not stop more than 1 night I've stayed at travel lodges they are great and half the price. Descent bathrooms, beds were great crisp white bedding with a splash of colour.

Disgusting place. Dirty unfriendly and not worth the money. Food inedible and cold. Couldn't wait to leave.

Excellent hotel, room was clean and very comfortable and the staff were friendly and extremely attentive.

DIABOLICAL, Room had not been cleaned, stained carpet and furniture, Wasp nest outside window that became apparent when I got stung in the night, allowed in by the huge gaps in the windows The best thing about breakfast was cleaning my teeth afterward Reported the Wasp incident to reception and got we will make a note! very unhelpful, good job I'm not allergic to stings Don't be fooled by the nice photos of the outside Would never stay there again if I could rate at — 5 I would.

Needs updating, staff need more commitment, more time on phones than watching waiting customers, sauce bottles on restaurant tables, very impressed with assistant manager who seemed to run it alone! Hence 3 Star's! Plus pool shut?

Beige, tired and in need of a facelift, showers insipid in certain rooms apparently better in others. Unacceptable miss allocation of pre booked twin rooms meant sharing and with child size put up beds. On the plus side breakfast was good and the standard fare bar menu was palatable, all 6 ravenous cyclists enjoyed their evening meals. Location on river is lovely too.

Room hadn't been cleaned when I arrived in the evening, a free drink and a short delay soon had it sorted. Staff were friendly and apologetic. Unfortunately it was a very warm night and the windows in the room could not be opened very much or at the top to let the heat out, no fans were available either. I think the room I was in was almost unique and other rooms wouldn't have this issue. Only had breakfast in the hotel and that was fine. Location overlooking the Thames was very pleasant.

Was here for a murder mystery function, with a 3 course meal which was very nice and came quickly. T Very nice location — the lake was especially beautiful in the evening. The bar service was sometimes slow and the bar closed before 11pm even though they had confirmed on the phone with us that it would stay open until 11, so we were sadly unable to get drinks at the end of the night when waiting for our taxi.

Warning aviod. We attended a wedding yesterday, The hotel is in a lovely location and the view is beautiful, This is where the good ends. The service is non existent and rude, I begged for a sandwich during a 3 hour wait, and was told the kitchen was too busy… For a Sandwich! I ate their last packet of crisps… no more the ran out! They ran out of beer! And when we got to the meal it was awful, the chicken was completely raw, the sausages were burnt… the worst meal EVER. We ate there about 2 years ago and I swore never to go back and I can confirm that things have now improved. I live in London and and as such expect high prices, but £7.50 for a small glass of wine is very steep. As I say AVOID.

Only went to eat. Food was good and the staff delightful. Hotel is verging on the shabby side which is a shame given its great location.

Made the mistake of taking the family for a meal — the service was poor, the food awful, the ambience abysmal. A most depressing place.

Clean and friendly. Could do with some tlc but great location and food very good.

I took my wife to the hotel for three days in mid July to celebrate her birthday. The hotel was pretty-well full, and I got the short straw, Room 9. Can't recommend that one. We had to have the room window open as the temperature was in the early 20s that night. The room itself was okay — clean, sizeable, but tired. However, having been kept awake somewhat by the vehicles waiting at the traffic lights just outside our window, especially when they moved off of course, we asked for another room, and were immediately moved to Room 39 (or thereabouts). Now you're talking. Peace and quiet and an enjoyable experience. A much nicer room too. We ate in-house. At all meals, the food was very good, and the staff were faultless. We took the hotel boat up the river for a couple of hours in bright sunshine, cloudless skies and 27 degrees C. Superb. There are one or two serious whingers on this review section, but, trust me, you can ignore them. Yes, the hotel décor is very tired but we were told by our very helpful, smiling, Receptionist Elaine, a long-term employee, that now new owners have taken over just a few months ago, there was to be a full refurb in September onwards. I trust her word. Every hotel and business premises reaches a point somewhere along the line where it needs a refurb, and this one is no exception. I guess it is a little overdue too, but, hey, it's not THAT bad. The location, location, location is fabulous.

The hotel from hell. Unfortunate enough to stay 2 nights to attend a wedding. Refused first room (no. 1) due to filthy conditions including stains everywhere, dead bed bug in bed and pubic hairs in bathroom. No choice but to accept room 9 as only other room available (allegedly). Marginally better but still dirty and tired. Shower was filthy and door fell off and absolutely no water pressure. Toilet was difficult to flush. Breakfast was atrocious. Cold, swimming in oil, under-cooked sausages and brown bread was moldy. The best thing about the Shillingford Bridge Hotel is the view in your rear-view mirror as you head off to the M40. Avoid at any cost and do not pay £198 for two nights as I did. They should rename this place the Highway Robbery! Takes ages to check-out due to high levels of complaints.

Our 2 night stay was bought by friends as a 70th birthday present. We got in within 3 days of booking but had to pay a small fee to upgrade as no standard rooms were available. When we got there our room was not ready, no problem we said as the bar is next to the reception. However, the receptionist said she would move us and put us in a suite for no extra cost. It was a bungalow overlooking the car park and river. It was superb. The reception, bar and dining room are very pleasant and we ate in the restaurant both nights. You can use either the restaurant or bar menu. Both are fairly limited but the quality is excellent. Staff were brilliant, especially Julianna, the receptionist. One tip: Go for an upgrade as these all face the river. The park and ride for Oxford is only 15 mins away. We intend to return as soon as we can.

Nice Location, friendly staff, rooms are clean, fair accommodation rates, breakfast quality should be improved.

Whilst the decor was clean and fresh, position is great, food and service good somehow something is not quite hitting the button. Our party felt this hotel is too corporate and inside could have been any hotel anywhere.
