The place was very good and the food was hot and very well presented. It was a popular place to go judging by the amount of people of all ages coming in. The service was good but when it comes to desserts please give spoon and fork and a fresh napkin. I would go again defiantly.

A fantastic stay. We took our dog and it was so relaxed. You'd never know it was a dog friendly hotel as it was so clean. We really enjoyed our break and will be back again.

Me and my Mum enjoyed a last minute lunch here yesterday sat out in the beautiful courtyard area. Fantastic service from Abby and probably the best pizza Iv ever eaten, it was a lovely relaxing atmosphere and we felt totally Covid safe.

Historic building surrounded by lovely individual shops. A ‘just right’ area. Not loud and raucous but not boringly quite … just right! You would not be disappointed staying here.

Execution and attention to detail is lacking. Salads and cheese course were good. Some other items needed better execution. Burger Bun was too large and they refused to cook it to medium (they do past medium well! ) The dough on the pizza didn't rise (so disappointing that they can't get the dough right even though they have a wood fired oven. ) And the toffee in the rocky road sundae was burnt and the brownie was hard as a rock (no excuse for serving that. ) They really need to pay more attention to these small but critical details.

The restaurant and bar are excellent. Because I'm a local I don't know about the hotel rooms but judging from the quality of service and cleanliness I would think they'd be excellent. Service is friendly, professional and unobtrusive. Food is consistently good — pizzas cooked in the wood fired over are a family staple. Update. I've waited a while before commenting on the place since it was sold a year or so ago, but now I think it's fair to comment. The current owners have the opposite of the Midas touch — everything that was exceptional is now mediocre, the staff do their best but that's not enough to compensate.

Located centrally in Shaftesbury, this reasonably large hotel is very well appointed. A few minor areas that let it down a little. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is of a high standard. The room I occupied was comfortable with a good en-suite bathroom. The hotel is also dog friendly and they are made welcome too. The rooms do suffer from street noise from early morning, so request a room away from the main street if you want to wake later. Breakfast is served until late morning which is good. The fish dishes can be recommended.

My husband and I came here last week to celebrate his birthday. We had a fantastic time here at the Grosvenor Arms. Our server (Abby) was lovely and very attentive and had a sound knowledge of the menu and what wine we should pair with our Hake dish. Food was delicious, compliments to the chef. We will be back!

After days of searching for somewhere that did a gluten free afternoon tea I took my mum who has celiac here for her birthday, after standing around for a while with staff walking past we went to the bar and explained we booked in for afternoon tea and we were told to take a seat and they will sort it for us, after a little wait our food was served and we had an enjoyable time. Skip forward a few hours and my poor mum is in agony and obviously been given gluten! What a lovely way to spend her birthday! Will not be returning and wouldn't recommend to anyone who has celiac disease!

A lovely Hotel, it has gone through it's Coaching House Days, then Trust House Forte sold off run down & hurrah for the new owners. You are going to love this place. Nice court yard to enjoy the sun, nice open bar (dog friendly) dinning room & a conservatory. The Staff are well trained & charming. The Bar & Restaurant Menus have something for all tastes. Table service through out. The rooms are all individual and the tariff agreeable for what you get. If you want to relax in an open spaced bar or diner and sleep in a comfortable room this is the place to be.

Very trendy and lively bar and most comfortable too. They always seem to need an extra pair of hands at the bar though as waiting to be served is often too long. Great outdoor courtyard is a bonus feature.

Great place to stay. Despite bring on a budget, this hotel and accommodation was a real treat. Our double room was spacious, yet cosy and quiet. We enjoyed a well cooked and presented dinner in the evening and as breakfast was included in our booking, we also had that. The range of menu was moderate but choice was good and food was quality. The team at the Grosvenor were friendly, helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Service makes a huge difference. We would definitely stay again and recommend this to others.

Had a night away here to celebrate an anniversary. Very nicely decorated hotel with amazing food! But we found the service to be very slow AND a major downfall to us was the cleanliness of the hotel. Our room and bathroom were very dirty on arrival, so we complained and it was cleaned while we waited. Lots of dust, water marks and dirty shower and loo. We were not offered renumeration for our time (a drink at the bar would've sufficed). On arrival back into the room it had been given a once over but surfaces were still dirty and the bin in the loo was still full. So not a very thorough job done by the staff (considering it was the second clean and we'd asked for it to be done! ). Judging by the service we received and the hygiene in the hotel we would come for dinner but wouldn't stay here again.

We were redirected to this exclusive hotel after the boiler, from our previous hotel, broke down. What an absolute gem.! We were given such a warm welcome. We stayed in the Junior suite, which was a spacious, comfortable suite with excellent facilities which included wonderful decor, gorgeous aromatherapy toiletries and creams, a freestand bath and a top of the range shower. The tea/coffee facilities were excellent with plenty of variety. We ate at the restaurant for 2 of the 4 nights, and the food was of a very high standard with plenty of choice, as was the breakfast. The service was friendly and efficient. This all helped to make our mini honeymoon perfect and we were able to enjoy the beautiful Shaftesbury and surrounding areas.

Nice staff and a good crowd in here. The atmosphere is relaxed, the food varied and really well put together — something for everyone on the menus. Reasonable range of drinks and the bar staff aren't too shoddy at a cocktail. Good coffee too. The only place to go in Shaftesbury! Can't really fault it.

Quality of food in restaurant is very good. The real ale in the bar is very good. Price competitive with other hotels in the area. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Grosvenor Arms hotel to anyone looking for accommodation in and around Shaftesbury.

We had a great family gathering here at the weekend. Giles was so accommodating when I was booking it and while we were there. The food and atmosphere was perfect for the group of varying ages. The kids loved watching their pizzas being made and cooked. I couldn't recommend it enough for a family event!

Popoed in for a nice coffee with the family while out on a rather drizzly walked. We were pleased to find that our dog was welcome to come in while we had our drinks. Our coffees and the service were excellent.

Lovely hotel. I'd be more than happy to stay again. Clean room and reception, with friendly helpful staff. Breakfast is continental and cooked to order. The bar did get loud in the evening. It was the weekend in a small town when we stayed, so no surprise. No lift so not much good for a wheelchair, also narrow hallways. Parking is odd. One car per room policy. The parking is located behind shops a little walk away. If your safely conscious you could feel uneasy.

Our visit was marred by the noise from the loose window panes. Not just rattling but banging with the breeze. Up in the early hours trying to pad them out with paper etc, no effect! Food here is good and the hotel beds are comfy if you can sleep, avoid bedroom 11 at all costs. Disappointed.

Wonderful experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was impressive, particularly the pizzas. The bar has a nice, cosy atmosphere. The room was spacious and welcoming. It was a little cold but the staff gave us a portable heater which solved the problem immediately. I'd highly recommend this hotel. It was well suited for a romantic getaway.

What a great place this after its recent renovation in the Autumn (2013). It used to be minimalist and soulless, which was sad for an early 18th century coaching inn. However, the décor is now very agreeable. The courtyard and glass covered dining area (Conservatory) complements the more traditional layout of the dining room with some smaller rooms for private dining. The bar is now well laid out with a great selection of vodkas. The hotel and restaurant are welcoming and the food is very good, with an excellent wine list to match. It is not a pub. It is a grand old country town hotel which has been brought back to life in a very agreeable manner. You can eat modestly (pastas, pizzas) as well enjoying fine fare. It is excellent for something quick and also for a more leisurely Sunday lunch when the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding are to die for. Highly recommended.

Went here last weekend for a family 21st birthday, and was completely shocked at how different the place was after its recent refurbishment. The food was absolutely outstanding (I stole many items from other peoples plates), service was given with more than just a smile (friendly, chatty, knowledgable, attentive), decor was cosy and warm, and suits the tiny country town it's in (the 17 point stag antler drawing our parties attention), even the loos were so nice I frequently went back in there. Went in a dress, but would of felt comfortable in wellies. go go go. And have the steak and chocolate mouse.

This is a gem of a hotel. Recently refurbished. Beautiful decor, friendly staff and a Michelin starred chef runs the restaurant. The beds are all handmade and the linen luxurious and soft. Perhaps one of the best hotels I have stayed in.

We stayed at the Hotel Grosvenor this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The room was beautiful with a number of lovely surprises such as a tassimo machine and ipod dock, plus a flat screen TV to watch in a free stnding roll top bath! The whole place was decorated amazingly and the staff were attentive but not overly. The food was divine (although not a huge choice on the menu for dinner) and the bar had a great choice and was reasonably priced. The little courtyard in the middle was lovely too, but we weer lucky to go on a brilliant sunny day. The breakfast was just as lovely as the dinner. We felt totally spoilt for the whole weekend and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a bit of luxury.
