We arrived at the B&B in Torquay earlier than expected as we tried to beat the school holiday traffic. We rang the doorbell only to be "greeted" at the door by a member of staff who pointed at my mother (who had called to confirm a day earlier) and said in a very forceful manner "I TOLD YOU 2PM". We explained that we were travelling with my 85 year old grandmother for a wedding and that we just wanted to make them aware we had arrived, we then asked if it would be possible for my grandmother to use the toilet to which we got a sharp reply of "they are being cleaned so NO" We were very taken aback by this treatment and went off to try and find a public toilet. We returned to the hotel at 2.30pm, the staff members attitude was still very abrupt to which my dad pointed out that we have travelled to places all over the world and this was by far the worse treatment we had received. At this point the same member of staff came out from behind the desk, held the door open and said, "you can leave, we don't need your business". If we did not have my grandmother with us we would have taken him up on his offer but looking for other B&B's at this busy time seemed risky. At no stage did the staff member offer any apology for his attitude or abrupt treatment of us so he defiantly does not believe in "the customer is right". If you are looking to be treated poorly and feel lucky to be able to stay at this B&B then this is the place for you. When we went down to breakfast the next morning where we were greeted but then asked "are you happier today? " so this attitude seems to be acceptable when talking to guests. As for the facilities, we had one double room, one deluxe room and one twin. The rooms were very small; especially the twin room and they were all extremely hot. There was no offer of a fan to cool the room down. The shower room was no bigger than an aeroplane toilet and you could not sit on the toilet properly without feeling like resting your chin on the sink! No sheets were provided on the beds so you either had to have a duvet or nothing. The breakfast was ok, it was freshly cooked but lacked quality, a small selection of cereals and croissants were also provided. The service was ok but as soon as you took your last mouthful your plate was whipped away without asking if you had finished. Overall we were made to feel uncomfortable and were poorly treated by the staff member, I would not recommend this B&B to anybody staying in the area and I am surprised that this accommodation has such a high rating.
