My food was cold on arrival at the table and there wasn't much in the way of fish goujons within the sandwich, but I was too hungry to care.

Always a lovely pub to visit. We come to Hawkchurch every year and always visit the little town of Beer. The Anchor Inn has never disappointed us and serves excellent food and the staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. Beautiful pub garden which gorgeous sea views. We love coming here. Petra Booth.

Set in a wonderful coastal location, the Anchor Inn has friendly welcoming staff. Ordering via an app was easy and the service was quick. I was only having a drink, but looking at food being served to others, it looked good, and I'll be back to try it another time.

We just had Christmas dinner there, free glass of pressecco on arrival, a Christmas bag with bits and pieces for us both 3 course Christmas meal was absolutely fabulous the staff were great and friendly, nothing was too much for them. I felt well and truly spoilt. So Thank you all at The Anchor and the best of luck for the future with this pandemic…

Very friendly and helpful staff. Such a shame that due to Covid-19 face masks/visors must be worn. Great menu. Salmon was juicy and so tasty.

Had a Christmas Meal at the Anchor Inn last night with family. It was a really good meal. Very covid safe. Also always a member of staff around. Very friendly. Decorations on the table was awesome. Hope everyone at the Anchor Inn has a very good Xmas.

We went in today for lunch and had an amazing 3 course meal. Staff are very attentive and very clear with with the new covid restrictions.

Well organised for these covid times. We sat in the beer garden over looking the bay, enjoyed a 4oz steak sandwich with was lovely. Used the Green king app to order and pay which worked flawlessly. Highly recommended.

Brilliant meal with great staff, looked after very well and all the Covid precautions were being observed.

The place is in serious need of a lick of paint before the season starts. The fact that you have to queue at the bar to buy drinks, and then queue at a separate desk to order food is very irritating. The so-called prawn cocktail was actually (the tiniest) shrimps, and the French onion soup was watery and utterly tasteless. And why no local fish on the menu? Eg crab. Especially given that you are overlooking the beach, fishing boats and a fish seller.

Really nice atmosphere and really cosy. The food was great and the kids menu was awesome.

What a gorgeous place, stunning sea views! we arrived in Beer yesterday and have 2 dogs who were given ice cream and the dogs water was constantly topped, up with ice. Lovely friendly staff and the food looks great which I'm sure we will try this week.

Expensive drinks and the worst breakfast I’ve ever had.

Food came very quickly and was fine but the speed of service at the bar was appallingly slow. Lovely spot though!

Normally a great place for food. But let us down this time. Blunt staff, poor service. Free desert doesn’t cut it!

Just had a really lovely lunch. We both had roast dinner, which was exceptional. Had the apple and blackberry crumble for dessert, which was the best I've had in a long long time. Didn't have to wait long once ordered, although we did sit down at 12.15. The staff were very polite, helpful and cheerful, despite being rushed off their feet. I do suggest getting there early to eat, as they seemed to be running out of a lot of main courses before half one. But certainly can't complain about any of our meals today.

Average green king pub, not bad, but nothing spectacular. Could do with a spruce up. Toilets in particular you would only use if you absolutely had to.

Good pub grub. Very friendly staff. Great location with elevated beer garden out the front overlooking the bay. Deducted a point as the beer could be better. Not bad but none of the ales I had delighted me.

Booked a table yesterday at mid day for 8.30pm that evening for 4 people. Arrived at 8.30pm to be told we were going to be the last people to be served food, we therefore bought a round of drinks and proceeded to sit outside. 8.45pm we go to the bar to order food, after a long 10 minute wait and after several members of staff mis communicating giving mixed messages to us we were told by the on duty manager that there is actually no food in the kitchen for them to serve us… so in conclusion, even if you book a table and you arrive on time, staff will tell you you can order food until it’s to late to go anywhere else. Our left over tuna sandwiches from lunch had to do. Very, very disappointing.

Good garden eaterie space, average food unless they’re barbecuing. Avoid inside where it can get a bit strange. Staff are generally a bit weird in a Twin Peaks way. I might have thought I was imagining it but verified by many other users. Don’t stare. Fine cup of coffee.

Good beer friendly staff and great views from the pub garden plus the pub offers bed and breakfast as well as food so all in all this pub rates a 4 star rating without hesitation. Beer village has a lot to offer one and all. Therefore this place without hesitation would be a good place to stay.

My partner and I came to Beer for the 1st time for a 3 day break, we found the Anchor very pleasant, We arrived on a Hot and Hectic bank holiday, and were shown to our room. We had booked through Booking. Com so didn't really know what to expect from our room. We had a nice view at the side/front of the building looking down to the beach. There was a pretty Beer garden overlooking the beach, but sadly so busy, didn't get a change to admire it, perhaps next time :) The room (3) was very comfortable, but sadly the bathroom was not a good space for myself as I am not skinny to say the least. It's was impossible to shower without the door open : (
although I made light of the situation, as they had no idea of my size when the room was booked.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Anchor, and will come back again, The meals were enormous, and great value for money, there was a little bit of a wait, but as my mother used to say,, Good things come to those who wait, Breakfast was amazing and thanks for making me an extra Pain au Chocolate for breakfast on day two of our stay. The staff were so kind and helpful, our room was always cleaned and tidy. And to Cap off our holiday, when another room was available, we were up graded to Room 6, which was bigger, and had a bathroom and larger shower. Well Done to you all. And thankyou for making our holiday one to remember. We look forward to staying with you again soon.

Had a dinner in the pub… Extremely disappointing meal… Only ONE out of TEN dishes on the Chef’s selection was available! Were they opening? They also did not have any sundae, basically everything we wanted. Eventually, my friend ordered medium Sirloin, but gave us well done. Other dishes were distinctly unappetising. The thing is they charged us so much for such terrible food. £13 for a piece of stale salmon.

Lovely staff, who look to be trying their best to keep this establishment going. Rooms are desperately in need of a refurb. Cleanliness an issue too. Good location, but definitely not value for money.

Lovely pub and a wonderful location. I was disappointed with the standard of service though. Our food was cold and a replacement was slow in coming. They were quick to refund the cost of the meals so credit where credit is due. I do think that a bit more staff training is needed though.

Decent pub in the middle of Beer. It is a chain so nothing special. The real bonus is the beer garden which overlooks the beach. V popular in the summer with visitors.

Visited Beer over the weekend… Decided to have a spot of lunch… The guy taking orders was rude and not very interested in my order. The food was delicious… My advice is dont order the chips to make your sandwich a meal… £1.50 for 5 skinny cold chips… Very disappointed…

A group of 8 of us visited for Sunday lunch. Staff seemed very harassed and the waitress was particularly brusque, huffing and puffing the whole time like it was too much effort to serve us. Although will mention that the Liverpudlian (? ) barman/server was very pleasant and certainly tried to make up for her rudeness. The restaurant was way too hot. Most of the food was tasty but some of the food was cold. Such a shame it has changed hands as it was really lovely before. We won't be eating here again and would not recommend, sorry.

Lovely beer garden right on the cliff down near the beach. Perfect for a drink after a scenic walk from Branscombe.

The Anchor Inn is beautiful from start to finish. The staff are very friendly. The food was great. You can eat and drink inside or out. Very dog friends big bowls of water and ice placed outside for them on a hot sunny day. We will be revisiting with friends and family.

Good ale, good staff, good food (could be presented a bit better. The reason for three and not four or five was the internal aspect of the pub, it’s looking a bit tired at the start of a season… come on head office.

Very good Greene King pub in beer. Good prices and on Wednesday the curry night is very good value. £10 for a full curry and a drink. Friendly staff and right on the seafront. Bet it gets super busy in the summer though!

Very limited choice of beer and what there was was pretty poor. Asked for gin and tonic for my wife and bar staff added the full bottle of tonic while still at the bar so wife was not able to choose how much to put in. Heard that the food has gone very down hill (frozen / reheated) so won't bother getting a meal there.

Been visiting the village of Beer in East Devon for years and always pay at least one (usually more) visits to the Anchor pub. Comfortable inside bar and restaurant areas, outside garden at front overlooking the beach, with lots of seating and table service (nice in the warmer months). Beer is good, large selection of good wines and spirits (lots of different gins)

Love this pub. We have often parked in the car park at the top of the hill, walked over the cliffs to Branscome and back and then had a pub lunch here in the beer garden overlooking the sea. Lovely food and awesome spot.

The Anchor is rapidly going down Hill! I never usually go here as the food is not nice atall however my parents were down and I thought I'd give it the benefit of the doubt one last time because they wanted to sit in the gorgeous garden (which was unkept and every other table full of dirty cups etc) we went in and ordered our drinks and asked the bar man for some
Menus which he gave us, we went outside and all chose what we wanted including my 3 year old. Went back in to order our food to be told they were no longer serving food? Not Happy as we would never had bought drinks if we had of known we couldn't eat? … this pub is in a prime location and is just totally run into the ground. It gets worse and worse every time I come here. Total avoid disappointment.

We popped in on our way home from holiday as a lunchtime stopover. Weather was good so we were in the garden. The food was decent and service pretty swift and friendly even though it was a busy sunny Saturday. Standard pub grub was on offer — nothing fancy. Drinks seemed a bit on the pricey side. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Beautifully located pub, with the beer garden overlooking the beach. Good selection of cider/lager/ale with the Abbott Ale kept particularly well. Food is nice. It would be welcomed to have staff acknowledge your presence when sitting at the bar waiting to order, but this is a small point. Plenty of room to watch the live sports.

Nice beer garden with sea view for drinks. Reasonable drink prices. Food is ok, but as a chain pub it is probably the cheapest but also the least authentic/home-cooked style in the village.

The pub is located in a perfect position with a large beer garden over the road, overlooking the beach. One bar tender was very unhelpful and seemed like he did not want to serve us. Service at the bar was also slow.

Food was appalling… Children's meal was microwaved to within an inch of its life and made the mashed potato an unedible solid lump. Crab sandwich was £7.50 which turned out to be two stale bits of sliced bread with a measly scraping of crab inside with a few crisps on the side… Not what you expect for that price. We also had bits of shell in it and when picking out the shell, we found some plastic wrapper in there too! We complained and were given a refund but with a vague, half hearted appology with little concern of our unsatisfactory experience. Definitely one to avoid!

We were told that there was an hour's wait for Sunday roast. What's that all about? 1 hour to carve some meat and add veggies to the plate! Food was pretty average on arrival after the hours wait, with limited and overcooked vegetables. Drinks advertised on menu (Thatcher's cider and Speckled Hen) not available at the bar. Staff friendly and trying to make best of the bad situation, manager however was arrogant and dismissive, seemingly convinced that his substandard offering was of high quality. I will not go there again.

Good food, great location overlooking the English Channel (especially in the beer garden). Only criticism would be that to order food and drinks involves queuing twice — once at the food point and once at the separate bar.
