Lovely place to go, but a change in the food, ask for steak and ale pie but got mince & vegetable pie, was still looking for chunks of beef asked the waitress where’s the beef? Was told chef made a mistake, left half of it, what a waste of money. Mediterranean chicken was dry and tough. Great location will come for a drink but not for food, we were a group of 4 so spent a lot of money, but disappointed with the food…

Fantastic. Just popped in for a coffee and a coke and had some lovely small plate food. Very nice indeed. Well worth the wet motorcycle ride.

They specially served me and my husband coffee this morning when no where else would serve us thank you so much for being so kind to us I can’t thank you enough I am so grateful for you’re kindness a warm drink friendly service and a warm fire you went above and beyond hospitality thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.

Excellent, the staff were attentive and COVID aware, the food was limited however what was offered was of an extremely high standard. We are staying for the week in Dartmouth and this is the highest standard set on restaurants we have visited all week.
We have always eaten at the Castle when visiting Dartmouth, but it’s dramatically improved from the the previous owners and we are booked again on Friday night.

Yes good rooms, nice food and beer but make sure you book sea view so you get parking as not alot of 24hr parking in area.

Poppped to Dartmouth for a few hours and found this delight. Food was absolutely amazing. Best burger ever tasted and the garlic bread… I don’t even have the words for. Lovely friendly staff. Would definitely recommend a visit. I will certainly come here again. My tastebuds have definitely been tickled!

My partners parents live in Dartmouth so we have been visiting the Royal Castle for many years and have also loved each visit especially the food of which we always looked forward to. On our most recent visit we were as always extremely excited to be back and although due to Covid there was a restricted menu we were still really looking forward to it. Unfortunately we had a terrible experience which really put us off the food at the Royal Castle. I opted for the Prawn & Monkfish curry which I have to say was disgusting — the prawns were solid (obviously from frozen), the curry had no taste/spice it was really bland and the rice served with said curry was hard/crunch (obviously microwaved), everyone else in the party had fish & chips which was also not great — the fish was dry and the chips were soggy. It was so disappointing as we have always thoroughly enjoyed each visit but obviously since the takeover things have changed and I don’t think we will be visiting for food anytime soon! The manager was very apologetic and knocked several items off the bill which was kind but it still left us feeling very unsatisfied. Hope it gets sorted!

A gem among hotels, we found out, after staying at The Royal Castle Hotel. The ambiance, the warm welcome from start to finish, everything has been an experience beyond expectations. We had a wonderful Sunday lunch today, the staff were friendly and helpful. Nice veg, beautifully cooked meat and they also brought colouring crayons/paper out for the children — thank you!

Let down by the room and restaurant. Food was poor, but at least we weren’t charged for it. Our complaints about the noisy room were discarded, and we felt the management are happy with what they’ve got, and are not interested in complaints.

Having just stayed at the Royal Castle Hotel in Dartmouth, I would recommend a stay here as its great value and the food is excellent especially the breakfast menu. Staff are friendly and very helpful. There are no lifts in the building so you keep fit walking up to the top floor, which wasn't a problem for us.
Would like to stay there again in the future.

They said it was a listed building, they didn’t say by how much, great place to stay, nice staff, loved the “Hogwarts staircase “

We booked in to stay this weekend 12-14th October for my better halfs Birthday. Our car was parked for us by a friendly member of staff, luggage taken up to our room. We had the most beautiful views from our room (14) overlooking the waterfront. Was very relaxing and tranquil. Staff were always very attentive and friendly. Added bonus was the luxury Spa bath. A great breakfast spread each morning. Had dinner in The Grill room last night and found the menu to be very limited but still great service from the staff. Loved our stay here and will most definitely be back.

This is a beautiful hotel — friendly helpful staff, beautifully furnished and spacious rooms, and a fantastic breakfast overlooking the harbour, loved it!

Spent a week here celebrating our Silver Wedding Anniversary and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were kind, friendly and very attentive and from the moment we arrived we were completely looked after. The river view room was delightful and the choice at breakfast was second to none. Would definitely recommend this lovely hotel.

I have just returned home from a short break to celebrate my 70th birthday. As usual this exceptional hotel surpassed itself in providing a superbly professional standard of service across all areas; Reception welcome, beautifully presented room, delicious food in both the Galleon Bar and the Grill Room and all staff prepared to go the extra mile! Leanne is worthy of special mention! I couldn’t have expected more and I am looking forward to my next visit to make it the 31st year in succession that I’ve planned at least one break a year! Hats off everyone and thank you for making my 70th birthday very special!

We ordered our dinner at 7.20pm and had still not been served at 8.50pm despite repeatedly asking the waiters & managers what had happened to our order. We finally left without eating, so no idea what the food is like!

Just called in for a drink and jazz band n Sunday afternoon, very welcoming and great atmosphere, called into the seven stars hotel in Totnes today, which is a sister hotel also very good.

We came to have a two for one cream tea with my parents. We got the vouchers in the Western Morning News. We were absolutely stunned at what good value & quality this was. We had 2 delishious warm homemade scones. Tea served in beautiful bone china. We sat in the upstairs room and had beautiful views over the harbour and just for an hour felt a million dollars. I can honestly say it was the best £10 I have spent in years. We had waitor service, were made to feel special and welcome even though we only spent a £10 for all four of us. Even if we had paid full price it still would have been a fabulous experience. It is very rare but much welcomed treat to have something such good value for money. Thank you for such a memorable afternoon.

This is a very interesting place. The bar down stairs is small but a great place to hang out and have a drink and has a good choice of beer. Whilst the restaurant upstairs it has a older feel to it, the food is really good. I would recommend this place for a celebration dinner or just a special meal out.

Had lunch here, had a cheese and beans jacket potato. Was so much food I couldn't finish it. They also catered well for coeliac ensuring it was gluten free with no cross contamination.

First time in this Beautiful town we came across The Hotel for Lunch Lovely old Hotel staff were friendly food was Fantastic well cooked and presented we came back today for lunch and I had the seafood platter I can only say it was Exceptional good choice of Ales for my Husband to.

Great carvery lunch on Sunday. Took the boat trip from Torquay to Dartmouth then had lunch before returning. Good choice of roasts, excellently cooked, hot, vegetables and nice staff. Recommended.

Lovely hotel but I came for the 3 course meal. I had crab starter which was wonderful, melt in the mouth. Carvery followed all cooked as can be expected and you could take as much or little as you like. Lovely puddings to choose from. Staff were short staffed but were attentive and polite. Lots of choice of drinks and beautiful view from the main window. Highly recommend booking and enjoying a meal here.

Stopped at the Royal Castle Hotel for drinks, nice atmosphere in the bar as always. Price was on the high side at over £5 per pint considering the beer lacked freshness. A fair experience overall.

Good food and friendly staff. A minor mix up in our order meant one of our party received their food really late — staff were very apologetic but has kept me from giving 5 stars.

Came here for Mother’s Day lunch with my partner her daughter and her mother, it was a last minute booking and they were very accommodating, upon arrival the room was tidy & well presented we were shown our table, the smell of food drifted throughout the building, the service was great and I can honestly say it was the best roast I’ve ever had, the meat was succulent and tender amd cooked to perfection and full of flavour, the veg was fresh and the gravy was second to none, finally the desserts were outstanding, we were even given a jar of the head chefs family recipe curry sauce as a token Would definitely recommend to anybody “If carlsberg did roasts… ”

We’d booked a table for our Mum’s 90th Birthday and then … the snow arrived! I have to say the staff were wonderful, a couple of items were understandably off the menu as Dartmouth was cut off for a couple of days. They kindly sourced some flowers locally as the florist couldn’t get to town, and we had a fabulous meal.

Amazing stay here as always. Stayed in room 9, this time I was visiting. Huge comfy bed, spa bath and lots of space to move around. Room includes bottled water, still and sparkling, instant coffee and filter coffee, along with teas. Fabulous English breakfast each morning.

Fantastic food and customer service highly recommend. Nothing was ever too much for them to do. Great selection of the continental breakfast.

Fantastic location with great views across the river dart. Warm welcome and great atmosphere. The open fire was much appreciated on a bitter winter's day! We only had drinks — quality lager on offer on draught — Peroni. Recommended.

A great place to stay in Dartmouth right on the little harbour. Rooms are very nice and we'll provided for. Atmosphere in the bar areas is buzzing and pleasant. All round fab place.

Booked a Sunday carvery lunch for a birthday party and we were given a private room adjacent to the dining room with amazing food, particularly the beef. Mark and his front of house team were fantastic, with just the right amount of attention and humour. Would definitely visit again if I was in the area.

Top Hotel. Really enjoyed my stay. I was here on business so stuck out like a sore thumb with my 'table for one' but was made to feel very welcome and the staff were very helpful. Even parked my car for me. 5 stars well deserved.

Paid £180 for a night really not worth it. The room had a window that looked out over the stairs noisy all night from reception desk also hammering downstairs, breakfast was awful and not enough of it really nasty eggs. The staff not very friendly and spoke hardly any English over all the stay was pitiful and especially for the money. Went to Seale arms £80 per night with a window breakfast lovely staff nice and really helpful what a difference.

Our stay here has been excellent so far, still have one more night to go. The hotel is in an excellent location, food is incredible, and the dog has been well looked after with a bed, toy, and dentasticks waiting on arrival.

The drinks were varied and presented with the upmost care. The service we re evied was exceptional as our server was friendly and inviting. The food was also amazing however the portions could have been a little bigger. Overall a fantastic place to eat.

Lovely old place, great position but way too expensive for normal people, over £11 for a pint and 1 large wine, really? We looked at the menu, to add a chicken breast to a meal was £4! I understand position can sometimes mean high costs but it seems that Dartmouth is more expensive than the Caribbean, I have paid less on a cruise ship for the same drinks and I have been in the Caribbean, sort out your pricing structure and keep customers!

Good food and drink. Crab linguine was good as was fish curry. Classic burger came with a lot of cheese which masked the flavour of the beef. Service was very good and in a great location by the harbour. Also had the Philly burger on my first visit which was also very good.

Good location by the River Dart. Olde Worlde bar and restaurant area. Great menu and excellent food. Friendly staff. A la carte restaurant on First Floor, amazing food there. Would recommend both areas.

Staying there as a guest of my boyfriend who stays there when working in Dartmouth. We were there over bank holiday and was very busy and clearly popular and armospheric. We had a good carvery and a pleasant drink in the bar after. All very enjoyable.

Booked the library room for 70th birthday celebration lunch for my mam on easter Sunday. Couldn't have been lovelier… food excellent (we ordered from the bar menu) and staff where fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble… would highly recommend for small family get together. Thanks to all at the royal castle for helping us to celebrate this special day!

Went for the curry night on Tuesday and was not disappointed. Whilst the choice wasn't all that large, what was on offer was all delicious and beautifully made (especially the poppadoms and sides! ). The Royal Castle Hotel had a lovely atmosphere, the staff were absolutely lovely and were very welcoming, felt very traditional and would certainly go there again.

What a cool place! The pub downstairs is truly great. They also have a Sunday cuttery to die for. And their cheesy bread could be the best in England.
