Very lovely hotel fro 15th century, tasty english meals and great typical breakfasts.

Lovely old pub with a garden to the rear and plenty of parking. Better than you'd expect for a chain pub. Beer send to be well kept. Food offering was you might expect for a pub of this type, but somehow seemed better. The room was nice, but small and with single glazing and limited window opening, but no different than you should expect from a venue of this type. Absolutely full of character.

The restaurant is clean and pleasantly decorated. The staff were welcoming and friendly.

Very good restaurant. As a hotel it is very traditional English. I personally prefer more modern facilities but may like those who love the old place.

Fantastic place to stay, excellent service friendly staff delicious food highly recommend this place.

£6.79 for a glass of house wine and a poor selection of ales!

Wonderful country hotel/inn. Room was very spacious, even with the two fold out beds for the kids out. Was quiet at all times of the day and could get sleep even when early. Restaurant downstaits was magnificany and the food was excellent quality. Would recommend and would stay again.

Convenient if you need to be in the middle of Tutbury, clean and adequate but that's about it. Reception staff were unable to match the prices advertised online, so I had to go on my phone and book, while sat at the hotel. Also reception seemed to be barely manned. I was waiting there for a while each time I needed them. Room had a nice old feel with beam ceilings. Included an ac unit, and a fridge, which are seem to be a rarity in this type of hotel. The bed wasnt very comfortable, with bouncy springs. Breakfast was a boring and quite expensive affair. Stale bread for toasting. Ominous Thermos pump tank coffee. A very expensive hotel for what it offers and I shan't stay here again unless the other local hotels are full. The food at the restaurant was alright thought and dinner service was good so consider this a review only of the hotel part.

Well what an experience that was and not a good one. As a party of four adults we had booked a table for an evening meal (09/01/2015) The lady behind the bar was asked by one of our party is they sold Magners cider they didn't and she pointed out to him what ciders they sold as I was looking at the beers they sold as was not fully listening I then asked if they sold Strogbow only to be met with a rude attidude and a reply of "I've just told you" After I apologised and feeling like I had been told off I asked if I could sample the draught cider I was presented with the smallest amount of froth possible and had to stand there willing it to turn to a more liquid state so I could taste it. This wasn't a busy night and we were shown a square table for four, ok it had four chairs and would be suitable for two adults and two children but not four mature adults. We asked if we could use the longer table next to it and where told that it was reserved, although no reserve sign, cutlery or anything in fact was on the table. She then said that we could but in reality they where both the same size, (maybe they are in square meterage but without a tape measure I can't be sure). The lady showing us to the table was chuntering under her breath while moving all of our knifes and forks, if I had realised the hardship this had caused I would have picked up my own two knifes and two forks and moved them myself.

Fantastic food in a charming and historic English village inn. Five of us ate there early evening mid-week and, although the main courses took some time to arrive, they were all well worth the wait. The Mixed Grill was huge and cooked to perfection, and the Duck and Barley Pie, complete with a huge flaky pasty crust, looked spectacular and tasted good too. Would also recommend the Creme Brulee and Deep-filled Treacle Tart desserts. Just the right kind of classic pub food for a really picturesque Tudor pub in pretty Tutbury. Service was friendly and helpful, just a bit slow.

Very good Hotel with a excellent Restaurant. The Hotel is in a historical haus of the 14th century. The personal is very friendly.

I came here for lunch with my partner and from the moment we arrived we felt welcome. We were actually early, and they had not started serving yet but were offered menus, drinks and they took our order ready for the kitchen. He had the beef burger and I had the wild boar, pork and apple. We were both incredibly impressed from the moment the food arrived. It looked spectacular, on wooden boards with a little terracotta pot for the triple fried chips (which were incredible) and a tiny closed jar of a homemade smokey tomato salsa which was just lovely. The burgers arrived topped with a perfectly cooked egg and freshly hand battered onion rings too which was a lovely touch too. The portion was ample for the £10 we each paid (which nowadays is not expensive for what was a truly spectacular meal). The waitress came back to courtesy check, a nice touch and was thrilled to here how much we were enjoying the food. My bun fell apart slightly but I was so impressed by the flavour and texture of my wild boar burger that it didn't phase me. With my special burger also came some roasted apple wedges, and a slab of black pudding. Truly decadent but all worth the fantastic flavour. I will definitely be returning very soon.

Really really good food! Properly cooked and an excellent flavour! Will be returning to sample more of the menu!
