We booked in January to stay at The Mackworth Hotel as we did last year. When we arrived we were surprised that it was now The Farmhouse. We had received no notification that the hotel had been refurbished and had a new name and staff. We were kept waiting for about an hour and a half as our room was not ready. Finally at 3.30 we were shown to our room. The room was very nice and had been tastefully decorated. There was only two hangars. The hotel was very busy with a wedding and a birthday party we could not find anyone to ask for more hangars so we made do. Whilst putting clothes away in the chest of drawers it nearly toppled over, luckily my husband stopped it. It was not level on the floor. When we had the couple of days of really hot weather, we were not asked if we wanted fans for the room again there didn't seem to be anyone around. You could only open the window about 6 inches. We had booked for bed and breakfast on our first morning we were told we would have to pay for a cooked breakfast! The meals were very pricey for a limited menu. The food was never hot. The roast dinner was shocking, I had the roast beef which was two thin small slices half was fat, we had one carrot and one parsnip and for £15.95 it was an experience I would not want repeated. The waitresses did their best but they need more training on customer care. We sat waiting ages after our main course for the plates to be cleared and desert menu offered. I am sorry to say we will not be visiting again.
